Many of the old timers here know Keeper. He's a good man who has spent much of his life helping others, well now he needs our help. Please follow the links, it's easier than me trying to repost the whole thing here. Short version, his wife is very ill and medical bills are piling up fast. There is more information and a donation link that goes directly to Keepers Paypal account.
Thank you all for your help.

Are we getting any closer to helping Keeper fast track the op, or do we need to step it up a gear?

I actually got a cash donation today from EMC2 which I forwarded to Keeper. He never even knew Keeper but wanted to help anyway.
I want to thank everyone who has donated any amount at all. Please don't be ashamed to donate $5....it all adds up and every single dollar helps.
To answer your question Pythagoras....I'd love to see it stepped up a bit if possible. I hope that working together we can all make a real difference in the lives of this family. They would never ask for help...they would suffer in silence first. Please dig deep and give until it hurts. You guys are great and again thanks so much for your generous help.

Now that cant do a great deal on its own but 100's or even, god willing, thousands, of those kinds of donations can make an enormous difference.

And so will I when I know what Ive got to give! A CPU died on me a while back, just got the replacement back from RMA, its being sold on ebay, when that goes I'll have a much better idea of how much I'll have. Good on you with the MOT and all though, unexpected expenses can hurt, big time.

OK...Guys and Gals,
We can't let this thread or drive to raise money die yet. Phase One was a success and you guys are the greatest! His wife is finally on the bone building medication and the insurance company caved in. Keepers wife is still facing an operation that will leave them owing $6,000.00 co-payment when it's all over with.
Keeper is currently working 3 jobs and trying to be a care giver to his wife at the same time!
I know many of you you have already given and been very generous but GIVE AGAIN! Give until it hurts! Put yourself in their place for a minute and then break out the check book!
I'm not just talking the talk....I'm going to walk the walk! I will contribute again just as soon as I can raise the money. If I can do it, just about anyone can. Look around...sell something on Ebay and donate the cash...sell some old hardware in our classified section and donate whatever it brings. Five dollars or a Hundred dollars...it all helps.
PLEASE....lets breathe some life back into this thread! I'm calling on all XS & XR members to step up and meet the challenge...even if you have already given. We need $6,000.00 or as much of it as possible to help ease the burden. Thanks again to all of you....you are the greatest!

One thing that ive seen done before is run a lottery.
If we all club together I think we can build a pretty decent system up out of "spare" bits, then run an auction where your entry ticket is to donate something.
Winner gets the PC at the end.
[H] and other sites have done this before, and I think most sites on the net will give us a front page link.
Not sure if I have anything thats particually good to put in the system, but ill have a scout around. Got a 9800pro (was 12th on the 01 orb) maybe some other stuff.
I dont think ill have time to build the system or run the lottery, but maybe somebody else can....

Dale,
I am sorry to be late again. To encourage more people to lend a helping hand to Keeper, I will match every donation, dollar for dollar, from this point on, until enough money has been raised.
Is there a way to keep track of the daily totals so that I can match the amount on the following day?
Even though I am not religious, I'll pray for Keeper and his family. Hang in there, Keeper, we'll get through this together.

If I may add a suggestion for raising money... maybe sell those tags underneath everyone's handle. The ones that say, "Xtreme Member" and so on and so forth. I'm sure there are a few members that want those changed and would be willing to pay at least $5 or more!

I think what you guys are doing is admirable, and I've done what I can through paypal. I think that with all the money we spend on gear for our PC's, a little towards one of our own is really a drop in our own bucket, but can be a flood when it's all added up. I hope that it helps, I've put $25 US in today.
I've experience the American medical system first hand and know how difficult and expensive it can be.
I added this message, I hope they'll see it.
'My best wishes go out to your wife and yourself in the hard times. I know we haven't met, but I feel that the overclocking and PC community have to take care of each other when the help is needed. All the best, and I hope that she recovers well. I'm sure with your love and support she will be fine. :) Sincerely, Gray'
I don't know exactly how many active members there are here exactly, but if we could all give something, I don't think that co-payment would have to be so painful to make for them at all.
Very best regards to Keeper and his family, I hope everything works out for the best.

Sorry, I haven't been out here in a little while. Keeper just filled me in on what's going on. He sent some detailed medical information that I can't access until I install the app that reads them but here's what I know in a nutshell. They just consulted the surgeon and the surgery will be more involved than they thought. She will be getting 5 disks done instead of 3. I had the same surgery but only had 2 done and it left me 100% disabled according to Social Security Guidelines so I hope she has much better luck. Plus she lost all that bone mass too. They will fuse the 5 vertebrates, insert titanium screws, rods and cages. It's a nasty surgery.
On the money issue....their portion has gone up from $6,000 to $15,000 after talking to the actual surgeon who will do the proceedure. So far XS, XR, DDTung and a couple others have raised about $3200 towards their co-pay.
I'm in the process of building a computer now made up of donated hardware to be raffled off with all proceeds to go to Keeper and his wife. It's turning into a pretty nice PC with a 3500 cpu (939 platform) and ticket donations will be $10 each. We need to sell at least 100 tickets to raise a thousand dollars and then we will do another one. We are going to do whatever it takes to see these folks thru this very difficult time.
I want to thank everyone who has helped so far and plead with those who haven't yet to at least buy a $10 raffle ticket once they become available. I will post pics and specs of the rig when it's done and instructions on how to get your raffle tickets.
Thanks again for all your support. You guys are great!

My father told me of a new surgery where they dont fuse the spine but put a metal jacket around the jelly sack area. I am searching now and will try hard to find the name of this new procedure. The only thing i am afraid of is that she has soo many bad disks she may not be a candidate.

Some good news....Keeper discovered that his insurance covers everything above the $6,000 that he was originally quoted...so forget the 15,000..it's back down to $6,000 for his part. After counting our donations and others, he is short to the tune of about $1,600...not thousands....we're talking sixteen hundred here....a very doable figure with the raffle.
I have all the parts on my dinning room table and the rig will boot into windows. Within the next couple of days I need to finish the install so we can start selling tickets and pimping the raffle all over the web! Tickets are only going to be $11 each and we need to sell $1600 worth of tickets for this to be a success!
I post more often over at XR but I'll be sure to stop in here when the tickets go on sale. The donation address in the first post is still valid for the member who asked.

I won't let this fail! One of our own needs our help for his family and he's a preacher who spends every day helping others. I know times are tight for everyone now with Christmas coming but what a nice present this system would make for an 11 dollar donation! There won't be any presents at this families house this year but we can at least help them keep a roof over their heads and food on the table!

XtremeResources System Raffle!
XR is raising funds to pay off medical bills incurred by the wife of one of our Mods known as Keeper.
He has always been quick to help others, now it's our turn to give some back.
His wife recently had a serious back operation and is recovering nicely. The surgery has left them $1600 in the hole. This raffle and resulting donations will put them back on their feet financially.
Here's a link to the thread about the auction at XR with pics of the system and instructions on how to make you raffle donations. Good luck to all, it's a worthy cause and a great system for only an $11 donation!
http://www.xtremeresources.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37978
All ticket donations will sell for $11 usd. One dollar of this will go towards shipping no matter where the location. For example if the winner lives in Washington State USA and the shipping comes to $50 ( amount was chosen for the sake of the example and is not accurate) and we only get 50 donations of $11 each, the winners entire shipping is covered (and I'm off the hook for it) but suppose the winner lives in London and the shipping comes to $100 usd, then he or she will be responsible for the remaining $50. Of course if we got 100 donations and the shipping was only $50....the remaining $50 would go into the Raffle fund for Keepers family bills. All over sea shipping will be marked as a GIFT because that's exactly what it is but any remaining taxes like VAT, etc is the winners responsibility.
Donations need to be sent directly to Keeper via Paypal at gtucker@elp.rr.com
Postal Money Orders and Personal Checks need to be sent here:
Gregory Tucker
3613 Sunrise
El Paso, TX 79904
Please make note of the Postal Money Order Transaction # and the Personal Check #, amount, and bank. You will need that info to post to the following verification thread.
VERY IMPORTANT...PLEASE NOTE:
After donating $11 usd per ticket via Paypal, you MUST go to this thread:
http://www.xtremeresources.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38056
and record your Paypal Transaction number along with the number of tickets and dollar total so it can be confirmed with Paypal that the donation was made should you be chosen the winner. If you do not have a Paypal account, enter your Postal Money order number and amount or your personal check number, Bank it was drawn on and amount.
FAILURE TO MAKE THIS POST MAY DISQUAILIFY YOUR ENTRY!
We plan to run the Raffle until we either hit our goal of 160 ticket donations or people stop buying tickets!

Dale,
I have another idea. The XS D2OL team is now making a final run for the #1 spot, and we need all the help we can get before the end of the year.
If you guys start a XR subteam and your folders and other members switch their machines to crunch D2OL, I will purchase 5 raffle tickets for every 10k cands you guys produce before Dec. 31, 2005. If one of my tickets wins, I will put the prize rig up for auction on eBay, and the proceeds will go to Keeper. As I see it, XS D2OL, science, and above all, Keeper will benefit from this.
What do you guys say?

1x old school Athlon or the like (It can run a single agent an max out because of the lack of multi threading)
2x - P4 w/HT or the new dual core P-D or X2 dual core chips.
4X - Dual Xeon rig wil HT on both chips. Or dual core opteron.
As D2OL isn't a multi threaded app you need multiple copies to use 100% of the CPU... I agent per processor (Be it physical or logical)

Thanks again for your efforts on our behalf.
1x - for single processor rig without HT or dual core
2x - for single processor rig with HT or dual core
4x - for dual processor rig with HT or dual core
For each rig that you use for D2OL, you choose the installer that is appropriate for that rig.
For example, a P4C with HT enabled will use the 2x installer, so will a X2 4400+, and a dual Xeon with HT enabled will use the 4x installer. If you have a quad Opteron dual core rig, you're out of luck(or should I say lucky you?). :) The idea is to load one instance of D2OL on each processor(physical or logical).
