i need a solid silent heatsink for socket 754. i know thermaltake has a silent boost...what else is decent without breaking my wallet?
i find the arctic coolers great, i've had a few now, as well as the cheap base models are they really are silent and give good performance too

Zalman has some pretty quiet coolers, maybe the Alu/Cu one would be good for you

10-15 dollars?! why would you only spend 10 to 15 dollars on something so important? save up for a little longer, i would.
go here for silence... http://www.silenxusa.com/productcart/pc/configureprd_z.asp?idcategory=11&idproduct=48.
is 50 dollars but falls between 12 and 24 decibels. now this means that at its quietest its as quiet as silenX's own 120mm case fan (i have 2, and they're next to silent) or at its loudest its only as loud as a pretty quiet power supply.
i trust silenX after dealing with them in the past and have just forked out yesterday for one of their 14 decibel power supplies. customer service is great also, and they reply to all mails as quickly and as helpfully as they can.

Thermalright XP-90 is $25 at svc.com, it will beat anything else listed here with a Panaflo Low Speed (L1A) 90mm fan.

coolermaster hyper 6 with a cheap 80mm quiet fan if u dont mind the weight, the xp-90 is great for the money...very great I may say..but I just wanna say STAY AWAY FROM THE THERMALTAKE SILENT BOOST hehe.I own one right now, cools like crap with a 75 cfm fan :) I am replacing it with an xp-90 from jabtech.com b/c they ahve the gigabyte replacement backplate, otherwise I wouldve gotten it from SVC..which is really rally close to where I live hehe..and tax too..anyways back on subject..yah..

I'm gonna recommend the Freezer64 too. Although the XP-90c is a great performer and allows the freedom to change to a louder, higher cfm fan if needed later (but again, it's expensive).
