View Full Version : DFI-SLI DR dead?!?!

A Scream

Just want to make sure before I RMA it.
My sys.
SLI DR
Corsair XMS pro 2x 512
FX55, got it OEM and I'm running it off 3200 HSF
BFG 6800GT
OCZ 520W

Plug everything in, it gives me the DFI logo, and nothing after that. the LED's on the ram blink and stuff to show that they are doing something for a couple seconds after the logo shows up and then they show no activity. I tried putting the ram into different slots and stuff, nothing. All the debug led's go out except the last one, (which is the HD I think).

Any Suggestions?

I dont think its the board. Can you get into the bios? It could be the CPU getting hot with that heatsink and fan setup your using. Is that an A64 3200?

I cannot get into the bios. It's a 3200 HSF on a FX55. I'll go try another CPU real quick.

try pressing tab see if it gives you the diag screen. Try switching the speaker jumper and see how many beeps you are getting. 1 diagnostic LED up is VGA. 2 is ram, 3 is CPU.

stock speed, it should run OK with that cooler... absolutely no reason for it to overheat stock, or even overclocked on taht thing. :stick:

maybe I killed the FX55? but then It shouldn't be recognized by the MB should it? weird. I post tomorrow if I can get the Vapo up and running.

im actually having this exact same problem, im try several things at the moment. Switching between 2 video cards, two sets of ram, 2 dfi's, 2 power supples, and 2 cpus. So far i have found that i ahve one dead dfi, one dead winnie and one dead power supply lol. Still cant get past the damn lanparty screen though, got into bios once aswell. I have had it with dfi's after i get this running and the other stuff back from rma im going back to msi gear as it has never failed me.

If your seeing the Logo then it's not the card, it just cannot boot due to a system setting, PSU issue, or heat. Go into BIOS and load optimized defaults, and disable the damn logo while your in there too;)

we had it running on my 20pin Antec 550w. i think it's the PSU.

These boards nee good power and there has to be a good match with the memory and CPU. Try some other memory just to boot or one stick and try to boot to bios and bump up the vdimm. What bios version do you have? I would for sure resolve this problem before the Vapo.

well, I thought we resolved the prob as heat...

tried putting the mem in all the diff slots. the psu doesn't move at all with my multimeter. I'll go put the FX in with that crummy hsf. see if it'll boot...

did you try putting your venice or newcastle in or other 6800GT?

It booted w/ the 3200. I just put the FX55 back in. Strange, booted just fine. THat has got to be the wierdest thing that has happened to me.

One of my GT's is dead, so maybe it didn't like me seeing if it worked? I switched back the to the working GT and that's when the prob's started. Switch CPU's and it works, switch back and it works? :bsod:

im having this exact same problem still... sorta,

If i clear cmos then i can get to the bios (freezes at lanparty picture with one red light on), but if i change anything in the bios and then restart it stops with 2 red lights on and will not even let me into the bios.

I have tried this with a x700 pro and 6800gt, 2 different 512 stick of pc3500 EB (that both work 100% in a different board. No matter which it does the same thing.

Then i decide that i will try some UTT ram. I toss it in a presto i can get into the bios each time. I decide im not going to mess around so i pulled out a new HDD and went to install windows on it. I get through the blue screen part of the install and to the first restart. Fine and dandy to this point. Once it tries to load windows though i get "error loading operating system". Im like wtf? So i go into the bios and see if there is some goofy settings prehaps. I look at the voltages and see that vdimm is at auto but measures at 2.3 volts. I change the vdimm to 2.9 from auto and do a reboot and go into the bios again but the vdimm stays at 2.3 and doesnt come close to 2.9 (tried this all the way up 3.2 vdimm). Is this normal?

Anyways im going to try another hdd to see if it works. I also seem to be getting blue screens of death when i am installing windows. I will post back in a few to state how it went.

you may have the same.. issue i ahd with mine.. If I scroll down whiloe selecting memory voltage, for some reason it likes to defaulyt back to what it was.. make sure you dont scroll when selecting it, exit and save and restart see if that helps.

Well i decided to force the voltage issue and switched it over the 5 rail. Left it at 2.9 in the bios and when i went to check it, it was at 2.95vdimm so now i can use the EB again (as i very much perfer).

I now tried 2 fresh hdds(40 gig wd and 120 gig seagate). Went through the windows install and again when it went to restart it wouldnt load the os, i keep getting to the "error loading operating system" and then i cant do anything. I tried the original drive and still same outcome. This is all with the x700. Going to try the 6800 gt but this is getting rediculious, every time i track down a problem it merely leads me to another.

I just read a few threads about "errorloading operating system" and that it might be something to do with LBA and CHS formating. I have no idea where this is in the dfi's bios. ANy ideas?
