News: ATi Multi-GPU possible sighting?

The major chipset launch of Computex 2005 will be ATI’s new multi-GPU offering, but the official launch doesn’t happen until the show actually starts. But of course, motherboard manufacturers are already showing off boards based on the new chipset.

I'm interested in the performance of AMR,Crossfire,MVP, whatever you want to call it, against Nvidia's SLi technology, looks promising.

I'm *really* not liking that layout, seems like the cpu/ram is out of the way of direct airflow. Also, with the ram sticks being above the normal spot for exhaust fans, that heat is going to go up instead of out.... Just doesn't seem like they put much thought into air-flow on this board.

Of course, it IS DFI, so they probably know there's gonna be a fan on every hotspot anyway once we get our hands on them anyway. I just have my worries on this one.

looks nice, the ram and cpu placing is a little worrysome but if i get this is will be watercooled so ill only have to worry about putting a 120mm fan over the ram. I also like the fact that the picexpress 1x slot wont be covered even by large vga cooling setups.

This is a little weird, considering on EOCF the thread posted stated that most boards with 2x pci-e 16x slots for sli will work for amr with just a bios update and the purchase of a master-card.

i thought crossfire needed the ATI chipset to work, maybe im wrong.

AFAIK it does require the ati chipset. I'm pretty much positive NVidia will block ATi's cross-fire from working thru the NF4.

LoL ATI is just saying that in the nforce question because they dont wanna support their competitor. If it works on intel chipsets then it will work on other things as well. Also it says PHYSICAL x16 slots, the inquirer(http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=23569) was at computex and confirmed the intel part and the x8/x8 part for non believers still.

holy crap, no wonder their "crossfire" will be cheaper than SLI!!, well hopefully ATI will give us some good reasons to go with their chipsets vs. nvidia. hmm, sense sli wont be needed(only need 2 pci-e x16 slots), the dfi nf4 ultra would be perfect! well ATI definately out did NVIDIA, no wonder they where in such a hurry to go intel

Limiting the cards to only 2 x8 PCI Express connections may be a bottleneck if a game makes heavy use of the bus. Of course, we will run into similar issues with NVIDIA's solutions when paired with games that are PCI Express intensive. Unfortunately, as none yet exist, testing of this category of application is very difficult.

u still have to mod ur nf4 to sli and set the jumpers to 8x/8x
