my question is....why the hell isn't ati making the gpu for pc...and wth is amd and intel doing...
maybe this has been talked aobut alot, but haven't been here for a while...

The Xbox 360 graphics chip isn't being produced for the PC because it doesn't exist yet, the specs released for the Xbox 360 are just what its going to have when its released in the future, most of the parts Microsoft claims its going to have when its released are nowhere near ready to be mass produced. ATI is supposed to release its R520 in June for PC, which should be followed up by ATI Multi-Rendering (AMR) fairly soon after which is ATI's version of SLI. That should get the PC quite a bit closer to the Xbox 360 in terms of performance. And AMD and Intel are mostly working on Dual Core these days, and by the benchmarks I've seen from the AMD X2 CPU's, it looks like AMD hasn't become complacent quite yet.

No it's not the R500 is utterly and completly different the the R520. The R520 is a refresh of the current X800 die whichever that is (R450 ?). The R500 is a revamp of the R400, which was never released, and was supposed to be out now, but MicroShaft wanted a "unique" GPU so now we'll have to wait for the R600, a revamp of the R500.

trance not to start a flamewar but the ps3 is not even close to 2x as powerful. i actually saw some benchies and the xbox won out leaps and bounds over the ps3 in alot of tests.

All this makes me wonder why do we need a computer to play games. A console is far more easier to set up and more powerful for games, plus you don't have to worry if the game won't play or there will not be enough fps to run it smoothly ...
My bro is right now thinking the same, instead of the big beige box, he's going to buy a mac mini and a xbox 360

Gaming on a computer will always be better imo. I <3 the keyboard and mouse.
Besides, gaming on a PC i can alt-tab chat some on mirc, look up tomorrows bus and play some MP3s.

yeah you always need a mouse (joysticks feel slow and clumsy to me). theres no filemods scene for consoles as its impossible, and consoles have never been able to support high resolutions or anti-aliasing, relying on the low resolution of the TV to blur things up to the point of not being able to appreciate the image quality. PCs have always lead consoles, and i believe theyll continue to do so. what were experiencing at the moment is just a minor turnaround, and it hopefully wont last long. imagine it, instead of PC games largely being made with the limitations of consoles in mind when it comes to port time, console games will be making allowances for PCs instead in the design process.

the new xbox is sure powerful, but come on people, it's made by MICROSOFT! Possibly the worst corporation in the history of computing (except from SCO, they are bad too). It'll be filled with DRM crap, and will probably attempt to remove money from your bankaccount via Xbox live.

well ps3 = 2.2 Tflops
and xbox360= 1 Tflops
so based on that, ps3 is 2x as powerful :)

Xbox360 makes up for everything in sheer bandwidth, and the PS3 only suceeds wheras the apps rely on its FPU

how many games are so cpu dependant???? none and 2tflops is a lot for a game i would preffer all that power just in gpu and then i would say you are right...
they said they wont need a gpu because the CELL is so powerfull and see they are using a gpu just like the emotion just BS
