they say its based on r400, but is more advanced so its more like an r600...
and r520 is based on what? r420 wich is based on r3xx? :eh:
i think both r500 and r520 are based on r400 but more advanced so they are close to r600.

i think both r500 and r520 are based on the same tech and r600 will be pretty much the same architecture with some tweaks to get full sm4.0 support and better performence, i dont think r600 will be a whole new arhcitecture.

after r3xx ati wanted to go r4xx but the performence was too bad, so they went r420 wich is a double r3xx pretty much with some tweaks.

theinq now claims that this canceled/delayed r4xx project was worked on some more and resulted in r500 for the xbox-360, and that r520, the desktop vpu, evolved by improving the r420...

but thats like intel working on their "pentium 2" and "pentium 1" architecture, improving both of them, to then release 2 different "pentium 3" versions. get what i mean?
if you want to build a fast processor you dont work on different approaches but take the approach that looks most promising and then fully concentrate on it.

i still dont believe ati went two different ways to r500 and r520, i think they are pretty much the same chip.

they said that we are going to see the r500 tec on pcs the next year so r500 i more advance than r520
