View Full Version : Won't be coming back to XS for a long time...

Last night I came home from work to see my PC was not sitting on my desk... strange because everything else was still in my room basically untouched.
So I check out the back door of my flat, and sure enough it has been forced open.
This is actually the 4th time I have been burgled in the past 4 years and getting a bit tiresome... I didn't have insurance either because every time I get my house broken into I am too poor to think about insurance and by the time I have finally saved up enough to replace my gear it all happens again! Waaaaankers!
It seems a bit suspicious though, because I had 10 gigs of TwinMOS BH5 sitting right beside my PC and it hasn't been touched... ONLY the PC and Router were taken.
If the person that took my PC had of at least removed my HDDs before stealing my PC I wouldn't have lost 5 years worth of music... music I doubt I can replace...
Not only did they not take anything else in my room, they didnt take anything else in our entire house... the new DVD player, still there... my surfboard, still there... a digital camera in my room, still there... said TwinMOS, still there... my stereo, still there... strange.
Point of this thread is just to say good bye to everyone I have become friends with on this forum... It will take me a long time to get enough money to put towards an XS worthy PC, and to be honest I can't even afford to consider building a new PC now, I need to start thinking bout savings/travel/etc.
No doubt I will visit here on occasion but I will no longer be an active member unless some miracle happens.
So, to everyone on this forum I have helped or have been helped by, and most of all everyone on this forum I have become friends with...
Thanks man, this forum is a great place with a lot of great people, keep it this way!
Words of wisdom:
You are never too poor for insurance

hey, if the dude that stole ur copm isnt too smart, and u have some sort of instant mesenger service on ur computer on autorun, then he may turn on the computer and have it start up, or sign on ur screen name and try to talk to ppl or sumthing, ive had it happen before for one of my old friends, so you may be able to get an IP address or something that lets you know his location and whatnot, then you can call the police.

Cheers for all the suggestions, Trance's one is good... my mate and i have actually been planning this already.
I have contacted the police already, i did it 10 minutes after finding out. Also, one of my flatmates is in police college right now and has been very helpful in collecting info about the situation.

mayby a dumb question, but what for is a home insurance (*don'T know right spelling, on german it'l be hausehaltsversicherung*) :stick: . anyway, to be in such a forum doesn'T contain to have a good pc (*anyway does not cost much if you got a highly-paid work, and other people don'T have even enough mony*) but is all about the knowledge ... . hm, strange burglers are there in new zeeland. in europe they wouldn'T take a computer and stuff like that but mony , jewelry and clocks because stuff like this is easier to get off again.

home insurance basically, if anything happens to your house, burglary, flood, volcanoe ... etc. they replace whatever you lost in teh accident.
also, you might wanna keep a close eye on the ppl that live around your flat, cuz alot of theives i think, dun wanna go very far from their own home to steal something, unless it's something they can pawn for alot of money, which reminds me, check the local pawn shops.

Everyone's generosity and support is amazing... serious, I'm overwhelmed! :worship:
I'd love to sell you guys the BH5, but it is already all sold in advance.
Unfortunately two of the TwinMOS BH5 modules were in the PC at the time so I will need to wait for the next shipment before I can send one of my customers his RAM.
I have been talking with the police and have an officer meeting me at home tomorrow bright and early... I have prepared a report of everything I remember seeing, all things that have been taken, all suspicions I have, etc... Hopefully the police appreciate the effort I put in and will try harder.
One of my flatmates, the one that is at Police training college, has been very helpful too... He gave me the police procedures for preserving evidense and things to look for.
FUGGER,
you ARE the man! I will do my best to continue to help & contribute to this site as much as I can!
Everyone,
I won't be able to check the site much for obvious reasons (I am at a friends house right now), so don't be offended if I don't reply to your posts.

Sorry to hear about your stuff, I lost loads of car stereo stuff years back, but found out who is was, confronted him, he threatened to burn down my house so it was left, strangely nothing went again. But what goes around comes around and earlier this year he was killed in a motorcycle accident the day after he lost his license. The crime rate in the area dropped by about 50% after this. Not many ppl were sorry to see him go.
Wouldnt surprise me if it was the same person, coming back each time, specially if they only took the PC and nothing else. You could even know the theif without realising, going on what you have said, each time you get a nice setup it goes....But realistically after the first theft you should have made insurance your priority....
Contents insurance is cheap in the long run and only about £20 a month over here.
Too cool Fugger:)

Expect shipping to be up to six-twelve weeks, I have shipped a lot of stuff to and from Australia and New Zealand and it's never quick, but definitely slower to New Zealand. Be patient it will arrive.
Oh man! Thanks for that Ugly... uuhhh... Grey... How bout UG? hehe
I've shipped a lot as well but never something of this size.
I send parcels to my sis in the UK and it gets there in a couple weeks for quite cheap usually...
At least you give new hope bro. Cheers :toast:

Ugly works for me :toast:
yeah bigger stuff takes a long time, I shipped a guitar signed by the original members of INXS to Australia once and it took seven weeks. I shipped a small server (well a SUN E450 is small to me) to New Zeland and it took 10.... I hope your stuff is faster :) .
On your point about shipping to from the UK, I've noticed that myself, it's like shipping is set up to work well to the UK or something. Weird.

Man, that sucks. Someone stole a bunch of stuff from our home in CA years ago when I was just a little guy. It really sucks to have that happen to you. Best of luck to you NZ. :)
They weren't the brightest theives either. They stole our really nice VCR that was a wedding gift for my parents, and left the big screen, but stole the big screen's remote and left us the VCR remote... which was sitting right in plain sight. I still have that TV to this day, but my cable remote works on it. :p:
