Shortly after WinHEC 2005, IWill (the maker of some great motherboards and sweet sff products) generously allowed me to touch their highest performing Opteron system. This was not your everyday dual or quad opteron system - it was an 8-way Dual Core Opteron System (16 Cores!) with 128gb of RAM! Now, a server with all this horsepower is extreme overkill to be your company's file server, and you'll probably get better FPS in Doom 3 on an Athlon64 PC. Instead, this server is focused on the most cpu and memory intensive applications, and this can easily be viewed as a server geared towards the HPC sector.

Since The Inquirer wrote an article yesturday about IWill demoing this server, I decided to let the world see the benchmarks that I took last month on the testing system. Below are screenshots with some quick benchmarks, and the numbers speak for themselves. As expected, this box basically beats every P4/Xeon/Opteron/Athlon64 in ANY configuration Wink [;)].

Much more to come on this baby...

wait till they start clustering them or do the double nb/sb trick.. maybe a 32-way (16+ cpu's, 32+ cores) is possible? :D:D

8x dual core opterons = 16 d2ol clients!
at ~2.7+ghz a peice thats 200wu/day per core.... given how cool they run..... :D:D:D

16x200 = 3,200 wu's.
