For an Nforce4 mobo, which setup will be faster? I don't really care about cost, I just don't know which ones to get.

Please post the question in the appropriate section. This clearly doesn't belong to AMD here.

Other than that, the answer is 6800Ultra hands down.

Definately the 6800Ultra...

having 2x6600gt's isnt even faster than the one STOCK 6800gt...

6600gt's in SLI is a total waste of money!!!

Thanks for the help, but how much of a difference would I see between a x850xtpe and 6800 ultra? Is it worth spending an extra $100 for the ati? And also, is just one 6800 enough or should I get two?

one 6800 is pretty much enough for any game currently out, but if you can afford it then get 2 and future proof :)

i got 2 evga 6600gt and a score of 7011 in 3dmark 2k5 and 87000+ points in aquarmark 3 :). cards are slightly oc to 520Mhz gpu and 1.22Ghz memory. the total cost of the 2 6600gts was 250$ :). these 2 cards are great.

Granted thats the X800XT PE AGP beating up on the 6800 Ultra AGP. But the X850XT PE is even faster than the X800XT PE. Get an X850XT or PE if you can swing it, then pickup an Arctic Cooling ATI silencer 5 rev 2 for it ;) Drops load temps by about 30 deg c and is much quieter. Both the X850XT PE and 6800 Ultra are loud.

i got this score running on a venice 3500 at 2.8G with 10x280 setting at 3x ldt and pretty aggressive mem timings. another thing was that i looped each test 10 times and i was amazed to see this score when it finished. i ran the test again a second time with same settings, but each test only once and the score was the same. i thought that by looping the tests, my score would degrade, but it didn't. love these cards. i also signed up for the 1yr upgrade with evga, but haven't heard anything from them. i only have these cards for a few months. there's still room for ocing the cards, but i need better cooling.

If you are only going to be benching or something and cost is an issue get the 6600gt's, but otherwise for general purpose get the 6800ultra. As for the ati vs. nvidia, thats up to you.

cost wise the x800xt oem models that various places stock are the best value 16 piepline parts, x800xl's are good but don't clock that well, the x800xt pcie is available here for £210 with the x800xt pe's only starting at around £300 up to 370 here for certain models.

6800gt's you can get for around £240-250 here. IMHO if you can get a cheap x800xt then do so as for now having had 6800gt's x800xt pe/x800xt/x800pro and 6600gt's between the top cards in most games you won't see any difference between them, 4-5fps differences in most games are barely noticable if at all so i say get whats cheapest. my x800xt pe clocked no better than my x800xt(ok like 10Mhz or so, again completely not noticable.

6600gt's, i had the gigabyte and it really is loud, i would recommend zalman sink for whatever you get(much better and easier to install than the silencer imho, cools better even though the silencer vents the hotter air. though if you can live on 6600gt performance could tide you over till next gen stuff in the next few months. there are some big games coming out but nothing TOO powerful till later in the year.

the 2x6600gt vs 1x 6800gt/ultra is an easy question to answer though, gt/ultra is far better, and less power, heat sound issues than with two cards.

if by chance you are in the uk or somewhere uk can ship too scan and overclockers have the cheapest x800xt oem's.

is your sig correct in so far as you're at stock and have your mem running at 130Mhz, if so thats why. running same speed but 200Mhz mem at 2,2,2,5 will make a pretty big difference, even in gpu loving 2k3/2k5. just assuming the 7k 2x6600gt score has overclocked gpu's and well, most ath 64's can hit 2.6Ghz, maybe more, and more memory these days will run 230Mhz easily, and he might be running up to 260 2,2,2,5 or 300 2.5,3,3,7 then thats why his score would be beating yours.

also 2x 6600gt's in some areas(i think it was mainly 3dmark ) can score pretty close/same as a 6800gt but in most real games it can't manage it, they aren't that much slower though, just a bit.

2x6600GT < 6800Ultra < X850XT PE

if money isn't a problem, get the best ;)

to me the 2 6600gts are best value/performance, bang for the bucks, mainstream if you're on a budget vid cards. these cards are nice and quiet and i can't complain one bit about the performance. they just rock. i game at 12x10 with 4x fsaa and 8x anis and frame rates are always above avg or more. also i don't need to use the 4pin power connector either. i have nothing against the 6800, but if you're on a budget, i would definitely go with 6600gt. just my .02$ :).

thing is, 2x6600gt's are still £230 here, and the x800xt pci-e is still faster in ALL games, and is fine gaming at 1600x1200 4xaa in all games, never remember what i set af too. 1 fan is always gonna be quieter than two, and stock fans on some gt's are deffo quite loud, unless you use the asus sli board cooling 3rd party wise is very difficult to fit. 1x6600gt is a good idea to tide you over(though if you sell stuff on you'll probably lose overall about the same amount as getting a x800xt and selling that on down the road).

according to all of the benchmark results ive seen, a setup with two 6600 GT's beats one 6800 Ultra. look at this set of data they're collecting over at HardForum for example - http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1027246498&postcount=1000

does anyone have links showing where the 6800 Ulta wins?
