So you can go slow and not available ( Intel ) or speedy but expensive ( AMD ).

well amd will probably ship even less dual cores i think :D
i have no idea how much 500.000 cpus for 2 quarters is... how many P4 and A64 cpus get sold in 2 quarters? does anybody have numbers we can compare this to?

http://news.com.com/Intel+intensifies+Pentium+4+production/2009-1001_3-250954.html that was in begining of 2001, they have several numbers, lets 'average' it out to about 16 million. Divide that by 2, for half year (which eaquals 2 quaters) you get roughly 8 million chips in 2001, you get a 16:1 ratio. That was on the onset of their .13nm process. I dont have any numbers for their .90 nm.

well lets say the numbers havent changed, wich is pretty pessimistic, but even then 500.000 chips in 2 quarters is 1/4th of their cpu sales... thats not too bad actually...

How did you get to the 1/4 number?

 i blame the heat, its 32°C in my room atm and im melting :D
your right, 8 million for two quarters means only every 16th cpu they ship will be a dual core cpu... and thats for both uarters, they said in q3 they will have 100.000 cpus, wich is a tiny amount compared to their overall sales... kinda weird... why do they push dual cores so much if they cant ship them?
and most of the few dual core chips will probably be sucked up by the oems like dell and alienware etc :/
so it looks like both amd and intel will only ship very limited quantities of their cual core chips :/

By the way, msnbc has Gerald Holzhammer, vice president of Intel's Digital Home Group saying "We're shipping 100,000 this quarter, and we're going to ship millions by the end of the year". Wierd, link http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8004058/
