Might be a silly question but here goes:

Can I create a Raid 0+1 with just 3 drives on the DFI NF4 board??

I'm thinking bout creating a Raid 0+1 as I have 3 W.D 120GB SATA drives but ain't 100% sure that it can be done...

Read somewhere that it can be done iirc but just wanted to see what everyone else who's tried it says...

Would be a little bit reassuring as I've had valuable data on my Raid 0 drives before but lost it due to me not backing up my data in time & one of my 120GB drive dying on me...

Was hoping that if I can set up a 3 drive Raid 0+1 I can at least have time to save my data before replacing my drives...

Anyone tried this before on any NF4 boards??

2 60GB hardrives won't be the same size as a 120GB drive cause manafacturer's use decimal, not binary when working out drive capacity. Plus, each drive contains data on the block stripe, so if one of your drives died, you would have to restore it to a 120GB drive instead of restoring half of each file to a new 60GB disk. Plus, I don't think any RAID controllers would support it. There is RAID5 which uses parity data, and 3 disks but I don't know much about it.

DFI uses Raid 1.5 on my board this gives you the benefit of raid 1 and 0, not sure about your AMD based one though, look it up on their site.

I do believe you need Raid 5 do to the 3 drive deal Minny.

just go raid 5, and you can use your 3rd drive for parity and still have stripe set.
