I just recently tried to take the ram sink off my MSI radeon 9800pro, I put it in the freezer and tried take the ram sink off after freezing for 3 hours, (cause I have arctic thermal adhesive on the ram sink) unluckily, I took off the piece of BGA ram from that 9800pro with the ram sink (ouch!) Can I just use superglue to glue the ram back on that MSI radeon 9800pro or what can I do? solder the ram back on? Plz help

lol wtf? first of all, the 9800pro is dead now. and why would you put it in the freezer in the first place? my suggestion would of been to play a intense game for a couple of hours to warm the ram sink up, then try and pull it off. but now, it looks like you have to rma. ps: why did you want to take the ram sink off?

it is arctic thermal adhesive. It will only get more solid with more heat. It is not normal arctic silver. Well I guess it is time for me to upgrade then

if you can align it perfectly then super glue it, it might work. but I say it's dead now

It comes off after freezing it, not heating it up.... it would be silly for a ram sink to come off after its under load, because it would just fall of during games...

And you cant rma it if your taking a ram sink off :stick:

your not getting what im trying to say rabid. what im saying is, if you play a game for a couple of hours, then it will melt some thermal compound (make it softer). then you should be able to to just twist it off. if you freeze it, then you freeze the thermal compound, and when you try pulling it off then.....i guess thats what happens

Too late but next time you pull it out of the freezer use a piece of fishing line to basically "cut" the heatsink off the RAM.

Next time use fingernail Polish ( with acetone) it will break the thermal adhesive down in about 60 secs then you can just twist alittly and off they come.

I use a serange and just dabble a few drops. it has no affect on the PCB that I have seen but use it sparingly.

I just buy new ram sinks. It's better to just spend a few dollars on a new HS. Selling a card with ramsinks on it just increases the value.
