I have a chance to get P-M 730ES
It's a few bucks more than I can get a retail 730. Now is there a difference? My first inclination is NO because multi is adjustable on retail, also!
But then I thought... one BIG complaint about ct-479/Dothan is the lack of a BIOS multi option, would an ES Dothan have the multi option in BIOS available on a p4c800e-d?????
This would make life a bit easier! And would 730 Dothan multi top out at 12??

well if it is an ES chip the multi is unlocked... so being you should be able to change it in the bios as if you had a ES P4. Do remember though that the ES was for testing so they my have not worked out the bugs in the core. Also not allowing you to overclock as high as retail ones.... just my .02cents

I don't know about the P4C, but on the P4P the multi option has been taken out in the new CT-479 bios. In the older bios the module was there and I think my 2.4ES had 6x-28x, but the new bios doesn't have the multi option at all. The retail 730 would have 6x-12x, I don't know about the ES. I have a 560ES that only has 14x and 18x like retail, at least in the boards I have tried(875P-T/AS8). But it could actually have more multis, look at Fugger's smithfield ES. And you would be able to get more for it once you get ready to sell the ES.
I tried and tried to edit these bios, but I don't have the right programs, so I guess we will have to wait for Bigtoe or Asus.

i'm afraid that ES dothans are like ES mobile pentium 4's.
multis are locked, but speedstep-controllable. just like non ES cpus..

Maybe this can help you a bit. It´s an 1.3 Dothan ES CPU and I can choose multiplier 8-28 in Bios but CPU doesn´t accept it after save and restart.
Will try tomorrow on Windows, at the moment I have no OS installed.
Or is this feature available on every P4P800-E mainboard?
