As the title shows, I am needing some help here.... Specifically with AMD opteron pinout info.

After some very quick searching I have come up with nothing. I am sure there are many sources I have not even found yet for AMD knowledge, but I wanted to start here with my teammates.

I have bought a pair 246HE's in the hopes that I can somehow trick whichever motherboard I choose to use into thinking that they need 1.55v rather than the 1.3v which they request from the motherboard. I have researched several motherboards over at 2cpu forums and none had quality vcore adjustments in bios, some had nTune working but not for vcore; therefore we are gonna have to do this brute force.

I know we have done this with the Intel LV Xeons and now I want to try with some HE Opty's. As this is my first AMD adventure in quite a few years, I will no doubt be asking tons of questions about AMD tweaks. I hope that you all will bear with me while I/we experiment here.

I was under the impression the K8N-DL had decent vcore options, but i cant find the thread on 2cpu.

I wouldnt say that 0.1v is a decent vcore option as the later bios only allow.... and twin xp-120s will fit that board

I am really leaning towards the Iwill DK8EW with SLi (if Iwill ever releases it), although not as robust as the Tyan K8WE; it has got to be less of a headache.

I can't wait to see how this turns out. I wish I knew of places that could help you out but I have no clue. Without checking newegg it looks like you got a ice deal on those CPU's. Lastly I was thinking the new Iwill or abit would be nice as they do not need registered ram even though Tyan is the King.

All s940 chips require registered ram, so there is no gettting around that right now.

Some s940 mobos runs fine with unbuffered memory.

In order to help lv, you should tell us which ones. :D

I knew the previosy S940 components needed registered ram but I thought that iwll and abit were developing boards that would run fine with regular ram. Sorry for the miss information. :(

Abit never brought their W8NL to market, an oem bought the design..... so no s940 unbuffered motherboards.

Still looking for help on the vcore mods.....

I thought Tyan had a board that didn't require registured RAM? The Opteron's fully support it, just the motherboards aren't out I guess.

The demand for unbuffered/non-ecc memory in the 2x (and 4x, 8x) 940 market can't be very large. Most of these setups are going to be run with large amounts of RAM (8gb+), and you need to use registered/ecc when getting that high.

Has anyone found a good dual proc Opteron board with some overclocking options? Just curious...

Asus K8N-DL so far is the best for o/c... but still not good enough I would say.
Tyan K8WE can't get it together as the bios writers dropped the ball without support for nTune.

I am waiting on the IWill DK8EW; preliminary reports show good oc options and stabilty, not to mention SLi :D

Too funny... Did you use the uwire trick that Scooter did over at 2cpu?

What motherboard did you use? I want that DK8EW baaaaad.

Anyone find a good source of relatively cheap 1gig registered dimms? DDR400/PC3200 registered is expensive!

How cheap? Also your location might help a little.

It's a computer at work, I dont know what the mobo is.

Mine is really slow though, it's a bit dissapointing. I'm trying to figure out why yet.

HELLO!
I've been watching those 246HE's too!
I just won a pair of regular 246's on ebay, and I'm anxious to see any more info you guys come up with about voltage options on M/Bs.

*I, too, am disappointed in the +100mva option on the new K8N-DL, but will likely get one anyway.

*I was looking at the Iwill Zmax-Dp but it came out at twice the price it was supposed to. So here's a question: What's the smallest case YOU would feel comfortable putting a K8N-DL in? I don't need room for a two-slot graphics card, but I'm a noise FREAK, and have a nearly silent system now, so room for fans and large heatsinks is a must.

*About RAM: I did an investigation myself (of registered PC3200) and came up with:
1GB Transcend cas 3-4-4-x (Jedec) $132 @newegg
1GB Corsair (CM72SD1024RLP) cas 3 (jedec) $135 @newegg
1GB Mushkin (#991142) cas 2-3-2-x @ 2.75v
cas 2.5-3-3-x @ 2.5v $163.00 @Monarch Computers

Nothing else seems worth the price. Note that the standard Corsair modules (non-XMS), both at 512MB and 1GB, are listed on websites at cas 2.5, but if you look at the product spec sheet, they are clearly only JEDEC compliant: cas 3-4-4-8. The mushkin modules are particularly attractive. Nobody else has a cas2 1GB module, and Corsair charges almost as much for a stick of 512MB cas2.

*Does anyone have ANY information on the new 248HE? The 90nm 252 uses about 25w LESS power than the 130nm 250, and is still rated about the same wattage.... so how overclockable is this little 90nm FX-51, overrated at 55w?????????????? damn!
