Want to play around with a 600 series cpu. However, I don't want to spend over $400 on a cpu, so I was wondering of the 630(3.0ghz) cpu would still allow lower(14x) multiplier via bios or with some windows program.

Basically I want to try some of this DDR2 fun benchmarking getting high 3:4 memory divider action at high fsb >300.

If I don't have 14x multiplier, that 300fsb goal is all but hard to achieve I think.

Plan to use the Asus PWD2 or whatever the new 955X board is.

AFAIK, only the 560, 570, 660 and 670 are fully unlocked downwards. the 550 will allow multipliers of only 14x and 17x and im not suer about the 650. All the others are locked.
Im upgrading to a 640 later this week and check it out for ya :)

JNav, I've used a 640 before, and I can lower the multiplier in decrement of 1, that is from 16x, 15x, 14x, using EIST tool. Not sure if you can do that with a 630, but I'm guessing it should be doable (I remember, I did it before, but can't be sure since I only had it for a short time). My motherboard is an Abit i925XE AA8XE (non Fatal1ty)...

I have a 650 and try to see in many different ways how (if possible) I could change the multipliers but in no way shape or form I could get the option out of the "GRAY". I guess they're locked but then again, I have no clue what EIST is.

I got a good deal on my 650 on eBay, I snatched it for $310. That leaves me with enough cash for another build I'm planning on doing in September or November of this year.

Nasgul, EIST is a windows-based tool, download it here: http://www.cpuid.org/download/eist.zip
