Ok, right now I have a 2.8C 30-cap m0 stepping SL6Z5. I'm thinking of selling it off and either getting a 3.2C stepping SL792 or a 3.2E stepping SL7PN. So which should I get, or am I just better off staying with what I have?
My board's a Epox 4PDA2+ Rev 2 so the reason for thinking about getting the 3.2E is because it can clock high without changing the vCore (which I hear can't be changed when you use a Prescott with this board).
Basically I'm trying to get 4.0+ on air and the 2.8 is maxing out at 3.6 for me.
In case you need more info, my rig is currently:
Epox 4PDA2+ Rev 2
Intel 2.8C @ 3.6 w/ XP-120
G.Skill PC4400 LE (440)
Antec True550
Thanks in advance!

My SL7PN does 250fsb without a problem no vcore added just the lowest I
could set in the bios (mobo = P4C800-E deluxe)
So as far as the cpu you cant mis 4ghz with it
(did it even on stock cooler (test run) but 60+ on load, its on water in my case)
Also I got PC3200XL ram's from corsair and they run 1:1 @ 2.65v (its TCCD's like yours)
So you schould be able to do the same :)
edit : but I did the droop mod on my asus board so if your mobo had a bad drop in vcore you will get some less mhz

I'm thinking I'll just go for the SL7PN. Is E0 the latest revision? And more importantly, anyone know if that's what Newegg is shipping out these days?

I'd go with the 3.2EO if you can get one. A friend ordered one this week and it turned out to be a DO, so I'd wait a week or two if I were you. The DO's are good though and he's at 4.13 ish on stock heatsink, stock voltage.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up. If I don't find one elsewhere, I'll probably wait a bit before ordering from Newegg.
Now I just gotta sell this 2.8C :D

Heh, dont spam posts, but get up to 100 ish and sell it. I think if you wait around 2 ish weeks they'll have a new batch coming thru, so then you gotta figure out what that batch is.

Yeah, I don't think i'll be reaching 100 anytime soon, look how long it's taken me to get to double digits :D
I've had it up on hardforums and anandtech for a few days, but so far no bites.
I think D0 wouldn't be so bad either though if I didn't have to mess with vCore and it got me to 4.0 But E0 is definately ideal.

Well if you are going to sel your 2.8C for $100. I would hang on to it til I could see how that prescott will perform on your board. I run the 4PDA2+ Ver.2 myself.several of them. And have built 13 systems this year based on them for clients. I am trying to figure why you can only get a MO chip to 257 fsb on your board. Not one system out of the 16 I have built on this Motherboard is limited to such a low fsb. Not One. you use the same mem as my main system, the difference being I run a 3.0C SL6WK 30 cap
I run daily at 269fsb 4037mhz. My son's 2.4C runs daily @ 303 fsb at 3637 mhz It has for more than a year now.
How are your temps? What psu you running? you are fully aware that our board just was not really meant for a prescott. Run a big fan over your MOSFETS if you do this.
keep an eye on things.
Would be great if it works out since our boards run full PAT wherever you set them 1:1
@ MAX mem setting. Good luck

I never got anything close to your results both with my 2.8C or 3.0C both 30 cappers. As far as my temps go, I don't know. The temp sensors were so out of whack I never knew what was going on. One second it would be 50C then the next update would say 80C then down to 45C. That was with a XP-120 and a 151CFM Delta fan. So I doubt it should have even read 50C on idle. Also, I was using an Antec True550 (used 2 on the same system with the same results).
After answering a week's worth of questions from tech support they finally gave me the go ahead to RMA it. Since you've had a lot more experience with the board than I have, maybe I'll hang on to the 2.8 and wait for the RMA to come back.
The only thing I can think of is that the G.Skill is bad. But then again I had the same problem running BH-5. I get to 250FSB and that's about it. And I could never get PAT settings to Expert - Enabled - Enabled - Enabled and hit 3.6. I had to have "Intel CPC function" disabled to get any decent overclocks.
I got so frustrated I almost dropped the board entirely. Maybe I just got a bad board. Hopefully the RMA helps. I don't have enother board to runs tests with so all I can do is wait I guess.
My 2.8C maxes at 3.4ghz on water, 1.75v, 3.5ghz 1.8v on chiller =( its 30Capper too.
I'll probly sell this and get a 3.0E, because newegg sells those the most and probly the most up to date E0. If your going to get a new chip id probly pick up 3.0E from Newegg like 185 retail

Why not use this opportunity to go LGA775 ?? You can get a reasonably priced As8 or p5p800 so you still keep your agp card. Meaning all you have to pay for is a proc and mobo, the cost of both of which you can offset by selling your curent proc and mobo.
Just a thought ;)

Not really interested in a new socket right now. If I had to buy a new mobo and processor I'd just go all the way and go AMD64 with a PCI-e video card. Which I was going to do but because of so little interest in my current processor and mobo, I ended up getting a new AGP card (since my last one just died - maybe another sign of something else wrong with my board?)

Maybe I just want to see what it's like on the other side of the fence :D
Plus, my last 2 intel boards, which were supposed to be great overclockers, have been duds. So I'm kind of looking for a change.

Perkam, you'll be happy to know that I stuck with Intel and picked up the 3.2C SL792 :D
So I now have a 2.8C 30-capper m0 stepping, 3.2C 30-capper AEP D1 stepping, and 2.4C 12-capper m0 stepping. Once I have a board to test it on, I'll keep the best 2 and sell the other :p:

Well if you get your new board back and just can't get what you are looking for PM me maybe we can make a deal for the board and the processor and you can get into a LGA 775 processor on a newer board.

I'll keep that in mind, but I'll give it another go before I throw in the towel :)
3.2 E or 3.0E are the ones i would go for.
I have seen them on eday ;) .com

Well, I picked up the 3.2C D1 but can only get it up to 3.6 stable. Bleh. I think I'm just going to sell it all and start over. =P

Tossed the 2.8 on eBay, since I didn't have any takers, sorry! Keeping the 2.4 since it's in the gf's rig (had to build her one to keep her off mine ;) )
edit: 3.2C was sold on Hardforums (don't have access to the FS forums here yet) in case you were wondering.
