View Full Version : Zalman 770 too heavy?
It seems that a Zalman 7700 Cu would fit my DFI ultra 4 board. But i'm concerned about the long term affects of hanging so much wieght. Even with the Zalman supplied backing plate, would the mass of the 7700 damage my board over time?

I like the Zalman but it is heavy, if thats a concern of yours then you might want to consider the XP120 or XP90 both are very light and cool better than the Zalman

I would only be concerned when they reach 10lb's.. and that isnt going to happen.
or a naked A64, since there are only two points of leverage which makes the bare CPU die the fulcrum. You'd have to drop it to cause damage though.

if you tote your PC around to lanparties or friend's houses a lot, then i suggest going XP-120 or XP-90. otherwise, it'll be fine.

i have a swiftech 6400, teh really big one that doesnt come with the fan, its like 750g or 1.6lb
edit: by the way, das 300 grams more than the amd recommended weight, and i take it alover the place, to frends houses and lan parties and wutnot. just be careful if ur shipping it.. cuz if they ship it and arent carefull, then u might have troubles, das it tho

I just don't understand why ppl don't choose the ALCU version if the weight bothers them, that's what I'm gonna do at least.
When I check reviews I can't see much difference in the performance, not worth that extra weight and price at least imo.

The ALCU ones could pick up the performance if they changed one design aspect.. very small change also, no change in build time, quality, or cost :D
Weight isnt a problem anyways. You'd have to put a 10lb tower of copper on there before you caused trouble with CPU's that have IHS's.
