View Full Version : Asus P4P800-VM with old BIOS + CT479 = ?
malfunction!

Just a quick question. I have the above mobo on it's way to me but I suspect it doesn't have the latest (CT479 compatible) BIOS installed. Anyone *know* if I can use alt+F2 and a floppy with the latest BIOS on to flash it or will I have to get hold of a S478 CPU to get this up and running?

The system will not boot at all with adapter installed, if there isn´t a bios with CT-479 support.

Stilt,
I have a P4C800E-Dlx coming this week, it's a rev2 and has an early BIOS on it. I don't have any left-over s478 CPU's. I was going to order a pre-programmed BIOS chip from www.badflash.com
1) Which BIOS should I use? The P4P800 dlx one??
2) Any evidence out there that 750/760 OC any better than 730/740 with Xtreme cooling?
3)I'm still confused on the boot at 200, or 201, ati doesn't like 201, but likes 200, but the divider, blah, blah, blah....
can you summarize how to run this setup at about 300, 5:4 @ DDR480, tight... running x800xtPe for 3D??
thx!!

What a hijack! Might wanna check this (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6366) one out, maybe even ask inthere making condensing this CT-479 business easier...
Well, I'll await the answer and add it to the Dothan thread...

You'll at least need the 1016 bios for the VM-board to boot with a Dothan+CT-479.
Grab it here: http://www.asus.com.tw/support/download/selectftp.aspx?l1_id=1&l2_id=15&l3_id=22&m_id=1&f_name=PPVM1016.ZIP~zaqwedc

1. Use original P4C800-E DLX bios 1021, or P4P800-E 1007.003.
2. Best chips available are IMO the 730 and 750 models (good multi´s)
3. Boot with 200FSB = 533FSB Strap, means CPC on. You can also boot with 201FSB so AGP/PCI will lock. You can turn CPC on from Windows with a tweaker, so no need for 200FSB booting.

Thanks for the advice (and I don't mind the hijack).
I have a mobile celeron (p4 / northwood based celeron) in my laptop so maybe it will boot with that so that I can flash the BIOS.

How and which tweaker?

Well Stryg,
I know about the Dothan thread... many of the posts are mine, I know because I was hammering on a couple Dothans last YEAR :stick:
But with my recent projects with San Diego, Venice, the submersed LN2 project and the quest for 300, 2-2-2.... I haven't been able to follow the CT-479 threads very closely.
We need to organize and condense all the Dothan info...

Dude, follow the link!
I know you hammered Dothans last year. You did that on the Aopen/DFI 855 boards. The thread I ask you to check out, is a new Dothan @ CT-479 thread, trying to keep up with the info on this particular way of handling Dothans.
You have been spreading questions about this situation (Asus + Dothan) in many threads by now, and I simply suggest that you try to keep them in that thread. Partly because the pioneering stuff you do is very helpfull for many of us :toast:
I am exactly trying to do what you plee for :)

Bump and I'd like an answer please...this is a pretty big deal for those of us running ATi cards...the lock is crucial and CPC can't live without.
