I have a P5WD2 with two optical drives on the ITE IT8212 controller. When the box boots the controller scans the bus, idenifies the drives, and then just hangs there for 1.5 - 2 minutes........ I though maybe it just didn't like my drives so I hooked other opticals and various IDE drives and it continues to do the same thing. I can't find anything in the bios that fixes the problem..... Nothing quite like a 4.0+ Gig box that takes 3 minutes to boot! :)

Has anyone else seen this problem?

Thanks-

Does it work after? Check what your scan for ATA stuff is on... My asus used to scan for 120 seconds, set it down to 5.

I don't think it's a bios issue, have you installed the IDE driver for the ITE controller from the CD?

try with one drive, also try with one drive set to master and the other set to cable select.

I've tried one drive as master, one drive as slave, one cdrom and master, one cdrom as slave, have tried various drives set to cable select, and probably every other combination possible.

I think the board is flakey, or at least the bios is, but I appears Asus thinks that bios is "gold" as it's not on their cd, not on their website, and there's not enough people out there with the board that I've been able to get someone to back up theirs and send a copy...... :) :) This sure is a lot of BS for the price of this board!
