hehe, Today I finally was home to recieve my Xeons :) 1.6Ghz LV Xeons Costa Rica, C1 stepping :)
THEY ARE JUST SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tiny :)
I was expection AMD Barton athlon XP sized CPU's but these are just soooo small and neat :)
I'm currently doing some math to ensure I'll be able to buy my laptop after I get me a PC DL but who boy can I hardly wait. A few question thouhg.
I'm actually planning on selling my AMD athlon XP Barton cored 2500+ (unlocked) and my (unmodded) A7n8X-X rev2. Now how much of a performance drop in games are we talking about here?
my barton is very nice but I do wanna keep my gaming experience. So I can stand a small hit in load times or something but I do expect it to keep being able to play new games such as Brothers in arms, Pacific Fighters (flightsim) , ....... and as I play it now. I know my RAM will help that (Twinmoss ,1GB RAM does nice speeds but due to the 20x boot up thingy on the PC DL i'll be able to use it's 200mhz speed only :s no 235mhz for me annymore :) )
and also my GPU (R360 on Pro PCB, nicly cooled, does 430/393(without all the MEM sinked yet :) and without mods(comming soon I hope :) ))
But how much of a performance drop will I notice in will Windows/linux on itsself become faster (booting etc.) or will it just be capable of holding more load?)
Also,as final questions:
Does a PC DL deluxe have IDE channels for HDD also or only sata controllers for HDD's?
and:
Is 150 euros a lot for a AMD 2500+ barton core fully unlocked doing 2400MHZ on air and at less then 40°C idle (45°C stressed with SP97 strapped to it) + a A7N8X-X rev2 + most lilkyl my precius SP97 ?

I'll try to shoot out your questions:
First I think you will gain performance not lose! :)
Then if your chips are 1.6 your maxi multi it's 16X not 20x!
You will be able also to use 235 for your mems, once in windows you can use clockgen and cranck them up, but you will nedd some mods and tweaks to go past ~220 in the PC-DL deluxe!
And talking about IDE, the board has 2 channels and 1 RAID channel!

ahaaaaaaaa so I can just use my current HDD's no buying new ones .... Yipee :)
and the 20x was that, (IIRC) the board tries to boot at 20x before (after a second or so) jumping to the normal setting. I don't know with what chips or anything it was but I remember jeff used to have problems with it.

OK... 2.0LVs boot at 20x multi on the 133 FSB. 1.6LV D1s max is 16x multi and are very willing to boot on 200 FSB. I am not sure about the C1s, but figure at least 166 FSB.
on a side note- if you value your hearing, do not use Intel Wind Tunnels; I would suggest using Swiftech 603s with a nice 80mm panaflo, but make sure whatever fan you use on the heatsink has got rpm capabilities.

Asus A7N8X-X currently at 62€ NEW (and I picked a not-so-cheap shop in my neighbourhood btw)
Athlon 2500+ barton core is allmost gone now, prices for unlocked ones reach +/- 60€.... (mine goes 2200Mhz stock with idle temps 32° on air, no prob)
So if you reach 100€ for board+CPU+cooler consider yourself a lucky man... (if the board was a A7N8Xrev2 NON-Deluxe I would make you an offer myself... pitty it's an X-X --> no dual channel :( )

yhea it's a non deluxe (so with IDE and no raid) but and X-X non the less. Pitty I know.
BTW I have "tray" cpu's so no coolers which means I have free game :)
And I'm gonna use some quiet coolers. I was thinking about the coolermaster heatpipe coolers but I can't seem to find them where I live (almost no where in belgium :s) and I don't want to order it on line. I have a policy never to order heatsinks or cooling material on line. with the heatpipes and all, some rough handling and I can ship'm back again ..
:slapass:
BTW mine does 2200MHZ stock also. and 3D capable of course but it just won't run 2300MHZ without getting pumped 1.825 volts through it minimum.
weird I know...

Maybe you could contact the people at a shop that I know who sell Coolermaster heatpipe coolers... and are always ready to order the ones you want if they haven't got them on the shelves :)
(Check your PM for link)
Ps: as soon as my game-rig is back (a friend is using it right now) I'll set it up and see how high I can get it... ;)

I have got the CM heatpipes and the Swifty 603V-?? and I do prefer the Swifty over the CM. Get yourself dome good 80mm panaflos or papsts with rpm readout and you will be very happy Belgian Boy ;)

papst it is :) The scwewwy :) thing about it all is that here in belgium, you don't have shops that sell almost everything. we only have those "nice" ships with just mobos etc! (apart from "The Shop" that is )
so getting panaflo's is sometimes ALSO a problem...
