I think at stock both are pretty much equal. I would look at which one would be better once overclocked.

They both perform neck to neck, x800xt is better in benchies though but the 6800u is more future proof since it supports SM3, HDR etc...

I think single 6800Ultra's only competition is the x850XT PE. 6800Ultra should perform excellent.

why not go with the x850 XT PE?

well the X850XT only adds minimal performance increase compared to a X800XTPE

its better than the 6800 ultra in all of todays games, it may not support SM3 but it is the fastest card on the block right now.

like others say, the Ultra and XT neck and neck. the X800XT PE outperforms it...that's why nvidia tried to rush the Ultra EE out the door. the X800s also have the size, heat, and power consumption advantages. i'd personally get the ATI, but no doubt you'll be happy with whatever.

Most would have been a better choice of words. The NV40 architecture is a monster in Doom 3 and The Chronicles of Riddick. Either way they are good cards, I would wait to see what happens between now and then. If nVidia releases their new card the G70 by then the Ultra may come down in price, same with ATi.

According to Anandtech the power consumption is near identical.

yea i guess your right there, nothing beats nvidia in doom 3.
@5clicks- I dont think the X800XT PE necessarily outperforms the 6800 Ultra, the difference between the XT and the PE is only clock speed and it isnt even that signifacant.

Agreed, and for the x850xt it doesn't do that much better, and when clocked, the x800xt gives more pr. MhZ.. It might thoug need some modding to do better than the x850xt and the 6800U.. Personaly I chose the x800xt..

my x800xt clocks past PE speeds 530/575 ish, and does 140fps in the valve stress test @ 1280x1024 all high 4x/8x

In July the answers are going to be different. Fudo and G70 will hopefulyl both be around. And will hopefully blow all of these cards out of the water

go with which ever isn't crippling your pocket
but i think ati has advantages on the AA and AF
as for sm3.0 i don't know what it could really do visually but hdr is a sweet plus
but i also love to see straight lines
personally i'd wait and see what new options present itself when the next gen cards hit the market

Lol he said 6800Ultra & x800XT, not PE. ATI is great. I have a x850XT PE as my gaming rig  If you get the x800XT, in the future, you can use it as a slave card and purchase a master card.

Go for the x800xt PE it's the best card, It beats the 6800Ultra almost in every game and benchmark.
I have one, I upgrade from a 6800GT and the difference is big.

I've got an x800xt pe and find it excellent in any game. If the 6800ultra is as fast as the x800xt you'll be happy with either solution.
What always amazes me is some of the older games like UT2004... Just set the game to the maximum resolution and turn on everything in the graphics section... and then play a perfectly fluid game. :D
