Please post the stepping/cooling/max overclock/voltage of your socket 754 Newcastle A64. I'm very interested in seeing what others have achieved.

I dont recall.. It was a genuine newcastle.. Thats about as far as I can remember - Average / good clocker at the time.

Did they get better over time? I would love to throw mine under some extreme cooling.

Indeed they do / did..
I remember when the first 64´s came out -- Anything past 2700MHz was outstanding..

hi there!
mine does 2400mhz @ 1.4 vcore
max 2550 mhz stable...
don't really know what's the problem but it isn't such a great overclocker :(
I've got a sucky memcontroller, I have to use 166 mhz divider for 2400MHZ,
otherwise my pc reboots on 1T timings :S
really a bugger that my cpu sucks... but I've got really sucky heatpaste (free stuff) maybe that's the prob.
thx for all the stepping info, If I get new heatpaste I'll write down the stepping and post it here.

I seriously doubt the thermal paste is your issue. If your temperatures are good replacing the thermal paste won't give you anything.

hi,
http://home.tiscali.be/phidico/Xyus/Suicide%20screen.jpg
my suicide screen... If I compare it with yours...
You've got a really good oc cpu!!
If you're going to sell it, contact me ;)
My best superpi is 35 sec, offcourse not stable.
But maybe I've got a bad memcontroller (main guess)
I have to use 166mhz dividers for to reach 2400mhz, My pc is benchstable on 200mhz dividers but after a while it reboots while Internet, chatting, It's still a big mystery for me! When I change it to 2T timings the problem is solved :( so...

hi,
2.85v? not enough?
change heatpaste tot as5 won't solve the problem I think, but isn't there a change that my memcontroller get's to hot or something like that?
on whatever divider I do 2600mhz isn't stable with superpi for 10sec's :s not even on 2T timings or what voltage.
I still have to try NB voltage adjustments, but I doubt it.

now that's one VERY nice Vcore!!!!! to be jalous of!!! :slobber: :slobber:
man , people say that I'm lucky with 1.4vcore @ 2400mhz but 1.4vcore @ 2700mhz...
sjeezes, that's one quickly satisfied cpu ;)

ok :) I haven't got the worst oc cpu :) 2200mhz... that's really bad luck.
Maybe I'll have the chance of to buy a s754 mobile cpu/newark very cheaply...

bought myself a 3400+ newcastle last week, stepping is 0511 DPMW.
got a defective board however, so no overclocking this week.

Is that the best what you got out of that cpu?

damn i can barely achieve 2200mhz stable @ 1.55v on my DFI. WTF? I guess these things need ~1.7v to get higher clocks. i need better cooling. my proccy loads @ ~57ºC , oc'ed 63ºC. ROF. Stock cooling. I'm looking into a XP-90 w/Panaflow 92mm (High Speed)

okie..im kinda noob here.....but what i see in the bios....i should change the fsb value right......say for example increase around 205 first.....HT ratio is at 4....should i change the value in overclock to manual n set the value to 5& overclock?any suggestion....?
mobo - Asus K8n rev 1.XX- i think it's 1.05..just bought the mobo for 1 month,bios is 1004
ram - 2x512 Corsair VS 2.5 3-3-3-8 at 1t command

keep ur ht ratio on auto, the key is to not take it above 800 but mine works at 840 no prob (280*3 280=fsb) and if ur computer quits booting clear cmos try agian but give cpu a little more volts or run ur ram on a devider

ha ha tha's frickin' cool ^ but another stepping i ain't heard of how does it clock???

sweet m8, what u get on air with that, and what stepping?
I think it was 0432MPMW.
Don't know how it does on air, never had it on air cooling actually.

My 3400+ newcastle did 2.7ghz on air. Then I put it under my custom r404a phase made by Herefishy and got it up to 3359mhz. That is a max shot though, it is super pi stable around 3200mhz.
My 3200+ newcastle does VERY bad... I can not do SuperPI any higher than 2551 (255x10) with 1.625 so my lowest score is 34 sec :( ... and higher vcore does not help ... this all on stock cooler ...
stepping in the sig
not long prime tested but approximate speeds i can run "stable"
2000 MHz @ 1.2 V
2200 MHz @ 1.4 V
2400 MHz @ 1.525 V

don't remember stepping etc, but I got it as an RMA from AMD (for a clawhammer :() on 14 April 2005. Its a 3400+
1.75v yields around 2.7 or 2.75, i need better cooling (stock aluminum hsf)

Hey I've seen you throughout in regards to this 754 newcastle i've just started my o/c experience with. Wondering if ya might offer some insight. I was trying all kinds a frequency's and pumping the power too it. Finally I reached a point where prime95 was seeing as stable at least on some short runs.
System Info: GA-K8nS rev.2 skt754 F19bios
Newcastle A64 3400+ rev.CG stock 2.4
2x1gb ram one is kingsington second generic
x700 radeon 256
Vista x86
400 watt cool-max
At any rate I got it stable in prime95 at a 2.89ghz but was going to do the long check on over night where is warm throught the day.
Temps: Idle - 41c
Browse - 44c
Load - 57c no higher though
Am waiting for can of air to clean heatsink for 24hr test. None the less when I reboot or shutdown I can't get a post again and the rig to boot without fiddling around with the bios settings again. Then when I do get a post and a boot will run stable again til restart or shut down. Any idea what the deal is. Not sure if was clear enough but hey am new at this whole experience so just going along. Well thanks for your time hopes you'll share some a your idea's/experience. Peace out
