I recently brought my daughter home from college, also her computer. At college she was using some kind of high-speed internet, here at home she has to use dailup (56k). The only high-speed internet service currently in my area is Comcast, can't afford $45 a month.

Anyway, in trying to get her back on the internet, I've encountered some problems. I'm using Netscape's ISP service, and when my daughter has logged on to the internet, she cannot go to any website's. When she type's in a webaddress she get's a message saying the website cannot be found, check the spelling soforth and so-on. I've upgraded my daughter's browser from the Firefox 1.03 to 1.04. Before the problem was all the time, with the 1.04 it seems like it's every other time. I'm suspecting the problem might have something to do with the configuration of the internet on her computer, but I'm not sure. I've never encountered this problem before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I tried IE and it seems to work a little better, I can get to a website, but can't access anything else on the website.

I sometimes have problems viewwing some sites in FireFox, so I temporarily change to IE or Opera and problem solved. Wish I didn't have to though.

This is defenitly not a browser problem. If the website cannot be found it is either a system configuration error or just comcast.

I suppose her system might have been configured for a proxy at the university, maybe a possibility.

You could try connecting it to a neighbors high speed connection for testing purposes. Most cable internet uses DHCP so you would just plug-n-play to see if the internet works.

Otherwise I dont know what to say. It is odd how this happens sometimes, which introduces another dynamic to the problem. Let me know how it works out...
