I was wondering if anyone had ever Oc'd a 2.26 533 fsb chip. I recently sold my 2.8B that ran 3.5 so that I could get a 3.0c but that was sold out from under me. Anyways I can pick up one of these up full retail for 120. So I was wondering if anyone had ever taken the time to make one scream. Since I'd like at least 3.0 but I'd really like 3.2 so if anyone ever has oc'd please reply
Thanks

I remember Pok over on BBR had close to 4GHz. :toast:

Here's the link (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,11184938?hilite=p4+26+112+retail).

You should pick a 2.4 or 2.6 pressy :) and overclock it to 4-4.3ghz ?
what motherboard are you running ?

Those new E0 2.4's are OC'ing way high...no HT though :(

I may have a line on a 2.6c now. I know it wouldn't probably get to as high as a 3.0c (the 2.26) but its considerably cheaper. I thought about prescotts but I don't have the money for a good HSF right now. I'm running a older P4P800 right now. Stability wise the board isn't bad but under heavy vcore loads it likes to flux a fair bit. Also I really don't care that much about HT. I really just need mhz.

2.4 prescott (stock heatsink/volt) @ 3.6-3.7ghz + vdroop et voila ;)

I am for sure going for the 2.6c now this one on good air did 3.5 and I don't think I'll run it that high I'm only going for 3.3-4 tops I want to keep the temps down.

My 2.26b hit just shy of 4ghz on air and a modded p4p800. I think I was ~1.6-1.65vcore.

i believe lithan did at one point...4ghz on air

edit: :slap: I should learn to read :D

:P, Yep. I loved that little chip. Then I sold it to buy the first of about ten a64 rigs I've built for myself. Maybe two of them would perform better then that rig if I tested them. Kinda wished I had kept it. I could upgrade to a dothan nice and easy if I had. But you know the addiction. Can't have the same system more than a month.

Oh and to answer your question, I can't imagine ANY p4 bought new these days not reaching 3ghz. Even falling shy of 3.2ghz would take a pretty rotten chip.

Edit: Oh and yeah, vdroop mod is almost necessary for p4p800. I gained something crazy like 150-200mhz with it. Then when I moved to an unmodded p4c800 deluxe I lost ~ 100mhz.

Okay I got the new chip right now its running 3.2 250fsb mem@200(really crappy kingston value). I think I may make it scream tomorrow. I have an SP-94 on it now with fresh as5 load its 36c with case a couple c lower and 65f ambeint. I'm going for 3.6 at least vid bench stable. BTW I got the chip and cooler for $130 :D This thing blows my 2.8 out of the water. At 3.2 its not that far behind in 01 vs the 2.8@3.5.
The memory Bandwidth is 5700mb/s with crappy timings(3-3-3-7). the best I ever saw on the 2.8 was 4200mb/s.

I would have gotten the 2.26 but I would have needed a good cooler and it wasn't in the budget. I managed to get a good cooler with this chip and it was to tempting to pass up.

You got a very good deal on that 3.2c, Did you write down the stepping info? Also, yeah you're running 200/200 instead of 166/166 or 166/200 so your 3d performance will be much better/mhz (especially in 3dmark 01 which likes FSB/Memory speed and timings much more than simple cpu mhz). I'd never recommend an A or B stepping proc if you weren't planning to O/C it to at least 200FSB.

I don't think its a 3.2C, it sounds like a 2.6B or something (as it is at 3.2 when at 250FSB)

Oh right. Thought he was saying it was a 3.2c he had overclocked to 250 and that even at stock it beat his 2.8b @ 3.5ghz in 3dmark. My mistake. It's still a good price for a 2.6c as long as it clocks well.

Yup its a 2.6c. I didn't have alot of time to play today. I have to drop my mem down to 133 divider. This stuff(kvr crap) locks the comp at even 4mhz above 200. I'd get some better stuff but I'd having to pay out money I don't have and I probably would end up with stuff that still wouldn't clock for beans. Since the max I'd get out of what I have now is 70 maybe but probably no more than 60 or so. If I ever get any money and could get something that would clock without a booster for under a $100(for a gig) I'd go for it. I have one stick of better ram I'll drop in and crank up when I get some time. The thing is its only 256mb so its worthless day 2 day but I at least know what it'll do.
