So what exaxtly is a droop mod? Ive heard that people can overclock the 2.66 GHz p4 505 to 4 GHz+ on air with an fsb of over 200 (default being 133). Is it possible to tweak the bios to run it at 200mhz (800 mhz effectively) instead of 533 mhz? i have this option in my bios. The reason i ask is that the AG8 doesnt like high fsbs.
Also, will a droop mod help stability?
thanks

A droop mod is a motherboard modification to prevent extreme voltage droops under load. This is very common with Intel motherboards and droop mods very much help with overclocking. Put it this way, at 1.60volts to the cpu core I was hitting as low as 1.5volts all the time underload and sometimes as low 1.486volts and in desktop mode I was hitting 1.725 volts. This is an extreme drop and raise in voltage and when overclocking that is very bad. If I wanted to get my 3.0 to 3.6Ghz I was needing to raise my voltage to 1.685volts to run nearly stable which is 1.8volts desktop max and only 1.585volts under load after about 30 minutes.
I did the droop mod and I run at 1.6volts to run 3.6Ghz which has no become my lowest voltage my high is 1.632volts max and low 1.585volts. Temps did no go any higher and infact desktop mode runs cooler due to the lower voltage in desktop mode and overclock much easier.
The droop mod involves soldering and a resistor of a certain resistance, mine being I believe 28K ohm. It's risky in terms of the parts that need to be soldered to are so small but if you are an overclocker it's well worth it. Before droop mode I could run at up to 3.45Mhz max to be completely stable running prime95 in blend mode, 3Dmark looping for an entire day without crashing. After droop mod I top out at close to 3.6Ghz stable but can do 3.72Ghz but the voltage gets too high which I do not like.
