Hey,
Decided to join this forum, as EOCF can get dull at noon on Friday. I am looking into phase change, as tecs are to ineffcient (though I have a 437watt dominator) and phasechange just damn cool. :woot:
So, I went and bought a 5000BTU a/c at sears around a year ago, I was going to water chill. Decided against the insulation. Didn't read that little part :fact: .
So now the a/c's still sitting stripped (with its compressor...) and I am looking back into phase change. I am looking to find a place to get the smaller compressors like 1/3hp or bigger in the big fat round kind normally used in phase. The a/c has a tall one.
I plan on getting this other compressor, piercing the a/c and draining it to an empty propane bottle. Then I will use that compressor for vacuum pump when I use the compressor I need for a single stage. :woot:
So, I tried ebay, but I didn't find anything. Looking for $50 bucks or so.
Thanks!
I hope this is a good first post.

Insulation? What you think you don't have to insulate Direct Die?
Look on ebay.

ebay is the best place to look for compressors.
this one would work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=71259&item=7515653724&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Yea, I know i gotta insulate with dd, but less than with chilled liquids. I managed to finnaly find some good compressors on ebay and purchased 2 already.

hmm IMO you need to insulate more the dd than the chiller... The evaporator will be way lower in temperature than you chilled liquid so you'll need more! Behind mb, top of mb, pipes and all the evaporator.

Yeah, I know. Also chiller is much large. I happen to lan a lot, and I know moving crap arounds bad, but phase is much easier to move.

Where is the "compressor store." I want to be able to pick and choose what components I use.

if you know someone at a scrapyard, you can search for a compressor in a freezer, or a installation where they get beer out, dont know the english word sorry, but in beluim its called a tapkraan

don't forget to change the oil :fact:
changing oil is not needed if the system is not open. it depends if the system had the refrigerant removed yet or it is still sealed.

wel, if you find the compressor on a scrapyard, you dont have that info
so just changing the oil so you are sure

if you find it and the refrigerant is still in it,I would be confident in saying its sealed, if either the refrigerant has been removed or it is cut free ,I would say its open.

DD gets colder so you need to insulate more around the cpu, and insulate the suction line. While a waterchiller won't need as much insulation on the the cpu, you have to insulate all the water lines, the resevoir, pretty much the entire system which can be a bit of a pain.
