compressor questions

Hay, im new here and building my first "chilled" comp. I need to know whats the best way to guage the hp of a given compressor. On electric motors its about 6.5 amp per hp.

Also, can you use about any refigerant on any compressor? I have a rotory out of an A\C unit that runs R-22. Could i run R-290, R-404, R-502, or R-12?

compressors are about 12,000 btu = 1 horsepower. any refrigerant can be used so long as the proper oil is used. one note is that because of pressure and temp. differances certian compressors are designed with a certian application in mind. high pressure,low temp,ect. they use different ratios and different valves ,ect to best meet that application.
