So I've gone crazy on the posting of the questions today. Sorry. But here is one for people with the 6800GT PCI-e from Leadtek. Which will perform better, the zalman, ac5, or is the stock HSF good enough? I get 50* Idle and 70* load.

I have a Leadtek 6800GT on AGP, but the cooling solution is the same. The AC NV5 Silencer didn't gaved me big temperature improvements (1-2C at load), but it surely is more quiet that the stock cooling solution. And the case temperatures droped with about 5-7C.

The Zalman imo is the best VGA cooler out there.

I've voted for AC5. It shaved 12-15ºC off my load temps. And if you have enough space in your case you can do someting like this to lower the temps 8-10ºC more:

This mod lowered my load temps by more than 20ºC. As a bonus, NF4 chipset temps lowered by 7ºC

With the Zalman, the warm air will get stuck inside the case, and unless you have a (very) good air flow inside your case, after a while your GPU temps will start to rise.

like the mod

i would go with the AC and mod the air flow

the mod i did with mine was with a vantec fancard
took some cardboard and made a box that fit over the fancard
i made a hole that lined up the air intake of the vga silencer and got a noticeable increase in air out

K voted NV5 cos in the long run it cools everything

but

for the love of god, make absolutely sure it is Rev2 you buy as the Rev1 is diabolical

and K knows from experience (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=62070) =/

The Zalman VF700-Cu is the best out there.

I have the NV5 Silencer, it sucks right outta the package, the contact is terrible which led my 6800 Idling at 58C or so. I lapped it and popped it back on, 48C Idle.

I've lapped and as5'ed the stock heatsink. if it doesn't drop the temps down to at least 60*C idle in the next two weeks, i'm gonna go with the zalman.

The Zalman is so much better. Anybody who has used both will confirm this as non subjective fact. :)

is the zalman small enough for sli use on a dfi?

I vote for the NV-5, it will lower your load temps and also remove the hot exhaust, which will in turn help lower your case, cpu, chipset etc... Can't go wrong..
And if you take the time to lap it correctly and increase the contact pressure it will definately beat any other air cooled option...

Not sure if you Nv-5 users have already modded the mounting system, but if you get rid of those rubber washers and just use the oem back plate for a spacer (the NV-5 bolts will slide through the threaded holes in the original back plate) and you can increase the contact pressure and get it alot closer to being level with the gpu surface....and increase the contact with the memory....

I like the duct mod you made, I have the CM stacker also, but use a SB -2ZS Sound card, so I don't think it would work, but it's got me thinking...
