My PC makes alot of noise. I think that the problem lies with the NB fan. is there any replacement that would do the same job without making contact with the vid card? also, how hot is the NB able to get without causing major problems? could i just set it to operate at a minimum until it gets to >55*C?
thanks in advance
edit: just saw a thread i could put this question under
There is wc solutions for the DFI's, but I havent seen any pasive cooling solutions if that's what you are thinking of?

lapped heat sink, added as5, now i top out at ambient case temp = 47*C using stock cooler/fan
Yes, chipset cooler on DFI nF4 is a problem ... Youc can put you card in second pci-e slot and use this cooler: http://www.zalmanusa.com/usa/product/view.asp?idx=71&code=014 with silver 5
enabling SLI mode both slots will work @ 8X without losing performance

Passive works fine, you just have to be creative :D

I am scared little man, scared to bend metal like that. probably break the thing in two...

Its really easy to do, took me about 5 minutes with a pair of needle nose pliers.

what kinda temps u get with that passive zalman?
and could u also test the temps in a stressed environment with BAD airflow?
just want to know worst case scenario... im plannin on watercooling gpu and cpu and runnin all other fans @ 7v, so there aint gonna be much airflow

I takes a lot for me to laugh when reading the XS forums but that bent Zalman heatsink is absolutely hilarious! Nice creativity.

Hey, if you wanted to do some overclocking with a setup like that, you actually have some room to rubberband a fan against the side of that heatsink. :)

i know this is an old thread, but...
if you got a mid tower with a side intake, consider a thermaltake "ducting mod". you can install that zalman, and blow air right on it using cool air from outside your case by using that 80mm clear PVC duct. Its curved at about a 45 degree angle, and also looks great, and silences the fan a bit (due to less turbulance). and in my opinion, much better than using rubberband to hold a fan on lol ;)
i currently have mine setup feeding my zalman 7000, but am gonna get the zalman nb cooler, and point it thataway
hope this helps somebody out. cheers!
