View Full Version : Rivatuner OC, low power=performance

So I was wondering about this simple adjustment, and I thought it would be good to bring up. In rivatuner you can OC 3 different things, 2D, low power 3D, and performance 3D. I know it's stupid to mess with 2D so I will leave that out. Now, I have always ONLY oc'd the performance 3D settings. Is there any benefit to have the "low power 3D" setting the same as the performance 3D? Thanks for the feedback.

Dunno, maybe it knows how heavily loaded the GPU is, and when it's not heavily loaded it uses this setting that uses less power in 3D? ;)
I think YOU should test it for us and report your 3DMark results. You have your orders. Get going, Marine!

Make sure all 3 speeds are the same and then do force 3d in power options.

you dont want 2D to be the same, you don't want to mess with that.

I don't see why overclocking in 2d could hurt more than in 3d... I mean yeah it might cdecrease lifespan by a few months or more, but you a straining your card WAY less in 2d .
I also can't really see whay overclocking in 2d mode would help though...

2d is really basically for anything except gaming and graphics. So I dont see the need to run it high, it probably takes a load off the card having it run 300 when 500 isn't needed also.
from what i've heard, if you set the 2d to the same as 3d it adds stability

I have also, "heard" this. However, have you seen any proof?

Well I think it somewhat minimized my random occurring hard-lockups that are so familiar among the 6800's.

It is a hard thing to test, without your preceptions influencing results. Which means all this speculation could just be similar to the placebo effect.
