First of all I am only interested in canidate production, this computer will be a 24/7 cruncher. I already have a gaming rig and am not interested in upgrading in the future.

all I want is the most canidates and the best bang for the buck!!

I already have a case, HD, PSU, RAM and Water cooling for the new setup I just can't make up my mind on which system will produce the most.
I have come up with 3 options

*option 1* 754
MSI K8N Neo Platinum *refurb* $50
Sempron 3000+ Rev. E "Palermo" 128k 1.8Ghz ~$110
Total: $160

*option 2* 754
MSI K8N Neo Platinum *refurb* $50
Sempron 3300+ Rev. E "Palermo" 128k 2.0Ghz ~$140
Total: $190

*option 3* 939
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum *refurb* $70
Athlon 64 3000+ Rev. E "Venice" 512k 1.8 Ghz $150
Total: $220

*note* sempton Rev. E are not avaliable yet but they will be soon.

I like option 2 the most, but i am not sure. I do not need 64 bit or the extra cache from the A64 but, the dual channel DDR would be nice from the 939. *But i would need 1 more stick or ram for dual channel + $33*
Do yo think the A64 will out produce the sempron clock for clock?

What would you get for around $200 and why. If you have any other suggestions that you think are better, let me know.

Thanks :toast:

If its a cruncher...cheapest one you can find will be best ;)...so the first one is perfect...and you can even overclock it to 2.5ghz...should give you ~120+ candidates a day.

i get ~140 cands per day from my Athlon Xp @2500
I would hope the sempron would produce more at the same speed and hopefuelly OC to 2.7Ghz

I am a bit biased towards dc ddr s939, the memory bandwidth is awesome, but I dont know how that would help d2ol much. The second ram stick has to be almost exactly same. If you run more than 4 banks your ram goes down to 333. So, two sticks only. I would stick with the s754 setup.

If it OCs to 2.7 (unlikely), you'll get 180ish...but not at stock...and remember XP > Sempys (half the cache, etc)

cache has almost no effect on d2ol output...our 256kb L2 K7's are as fast clock for clock as the 512kb L2 K7's.

Go with the cheapest one. Even with the cheapest one, u should get around 120ish. Hopefully more the faster u make it.

Dual Xeon will crunch like a mofo! My dual 3.2Ghz Xeon system produces more than 250 cands/day while a extremely OC'ed EE only does about 180 cands/day. BTW, yes, the Xeon system was MUCH cheaper.

my parents stock 2500+ barton looks like its doing ~100-110 a day. Only about 80 more with a WAY faster CPU AND hyperthreading seems a bit wrong... Than again I don't know jack about this D2OL stuff.

I would go whith #,the s939 A64 its only 10$ more then the otherones, and if you oc it to 2600mhz(easy) you'l do maybe 160/180candies.

To give you an idea,

XPM 2600+ @ 2400mhz 120/140 cand/day.
A64 3200+ s754 @ 2450mhz 130/150 cand/day.
DX2.0ghz @ 3100mhz +-300cand/day.

So what do you think is the best cruncher;).

i just think
will it be better to create a thread to list of our cruching machine and the average cand/day just for reference?

I like that idea and was thinking of something like that the other day.

the thread would probably help alot of others with their computer buying thoughts.
