Not sure what Ati thinks the point of this is?
Do CGI people use these or what?

Yeah... I think cause ati sucks at marketing or something. But uh.. wonder how these will be priced, kinda defeats the whole purpose in getting an x800xl. I can see these being at a minimum of 400$

Try $450

yeah.. can't wait for the 1024mb voodoo 3 to come out for 450$, they should be pretty competative, I think I'll go with the later tho cause it's got more memory.

you'd be supprised how many people think a 256mb 9250/Fx5200 > 128mb 9600XT.

It's pretty good at HL2 at very high res and AA/AF, but still not at playable fps.

Doesn't this just obliterate the point of getting an X800 XL over a 6800 GT? Jacking the price to 450 defeats the purpose, because a lot of GTs are now under 400 bucks. BFG has their 512mb 6800U OC for sale at 900 dollars...oh well.

Low end just can't compete with a $629 video card. :p:

(I can almost clock the core and memory up to an amount that equals the amount in dollars I paid for it. 629MHz. More info soon...hardware on the way.)

Kind of defeats the purpose of an x800XL...

wow... thats sad. they chose a MID RANGE card for their most memory... :stick: thats kinda wierd. plus they put on a price as much as the X850xt, which easily kicks its    ......

Like you guys have saidm complete and utter waste of time.

Whoever thought of this at ATI needs a wet trout round the face.

I mean a X850XT PE would of been a much better card to have the 512mb on, as it would at least be faster than a XL to utilize the memory, but even then it's not really quick enough.

I mean the extra memory is really only any good at over 1600x1200 with 6X AA and 16AF, of which a XTPE will struggle in the likes of D3, HL2 and Far Cry.

Why would you pay 900$ for a 6800 Ultra with twice the memory when you can get a regular 6800 Ultra for 400$? Where is that extra 500$ going to?

512mb is a bit ahead of its time, r520 would be perfect on such high memory

im sure they did this bec the x800xl is their best selling card, so they gave it a bit more memory and a lot bigger price tag hoping to continue sales..

I don't know. I'm not an nVidia fan and I didn't plan on getting one. Just mentioning how ridiculous the price for it is. For that price, I'd rather get a CAD card.
