View Full Version : Benchmarking Problems (x850/FX55)

Ok, so i'm trying to run some benchmarks here on my new setup and it's not going all that well. My setup is in sig (except i'm using G.skill right now). When i run 3DMark 2001 ussually after the lobby tests (both low or high) the benchmark will just dissapear. There is no error, just finishes the test, and when it goes back to the desktop it's gone. This also happened during a run of 3DMark 03. Then when i try and run Aquamark, it makes it all the way to the end of the bench, then before i get my score, it gives me a nice error screen. I have heard about problems with x850 and aqua, but haven't been able to find anything to fix it. So bassically i can't run any benchmarks on my computer right now without them magically dissapearing. My CPU is clocked at 3.25GHz for the tests, memory is more than stable, graphic clocks don't make a difference as to the crashing, so i'm thinking it's driver related (i'm using 5.4's) or the CPU is instable?! Anyone have suggestions? I will try some other drivers in the mean time. I just never had this problem before with my NF3 setup (same CPU/Memory/clocks) only i was using a x800 AGP. Thanks.

That's just plain old normal crashing... you're a bit past the CPU limit, back it down a notch or try a little more Vcore :D

I've tried more vcore to no avail. I've also benched with the CPU higher on the NF3. I guess i was expecting a step up from the Neo2 and didn't get it. Oh, and it crashed with my CPU at 3.1 as well, which is more than stable for this CPU. I was just wondering if this was normal for this driver set or the x850. Oh well, maybe back to NF3 for me. I just never crashed at the end of a test after it completes, always mid test. Wishful thinking. Thanks Charlie.
Edit: I got it to run through 3dMark 03 at 3232MHz :p: 15K with my x850 at only 600/600, not to bad i guess. Oh, and is it normal for aqua to crash at any settings?
Download the direcpll-153.zip here (http://www.aquamark3.com/) and place it in yr AQ3 folder. It will resolve your X850/AQ3 no score prob.

That dll took care or aqua, thanks. 95K @ 3232MHz 605/605, not bad at all considering the card isn't maxed and doens't have any mods yet, plus stock cooling.
Still can't get 01 to complete, even with my CPU clocked well within its limits. Kinnda frustrating me right now. Never have i had a bench make it through a run everytime and just crash to desktop. Ugh...

have you tried your x850 with a lower clock?
mine wont get through 2001 or 03 with high clock speeds 570/630ish max
only other time i couldnt get through was when my vcore wasnt high enough

Yeah, it still crashed at lower speeds, which led me to think it was either the CPU or drivers. I just never had a bench crash so many times at the same exact spot in the bench without so much as an error, especially when it's running other benches at a higher clock. Thought maybe it was a known problem, but now me thinks it's just to much on the CPU. Gonna test it some more and try to get to the bottom of it. Thanks.

I know the times I've had 2001 drop out to the desktop it had something to do with my memory. Too little volts, too tight timings, etc. Actually didn't run across that with the FX-55/X850 combo, but I had pretty well characterized the cpu/mem beofre I got the X850.

Thanks, that's where i'm gonna start. I guess i assumed memtest stable was 3D stable :nono:

now you say that i had a problem with 2001 when i was running 285fsb with 259mhz mem 1T 2.5-3-3-6 timings slackened the timings to 2.5-4-4-7 and it ran ok that crashed on the second test (car high detail)

I'm with Mike, it's memory related. Memtest is one thing, running your best mem clocks with best multi and having it stable is another.

The classic sympton of VTT not tracking VDDR was dropping back to the desktop with no other error.
If it is not the memory then I would uninstall and resinstall 3dmark2001 again. Always do the easy things first :)

Thanks guys, i'm new to the NF4 (this being my first build with it) so can you guys take a look at my settings and see if anything pops out at you? This seemed to offer stability for me with just about everything i throw out it except 3D. It isn't a benchmarking machine, so i'm looking more for stability. And sorry, the pic is huge.

Yeah, not the best screenie. But that is one of the higher PC04 scores you'll see from the AMD camp :toast:

3dmark01 is famous for crashing with the 5.4 cat,s.if all else fails, try the 4.12 cat,s.they dont have the crashing issues of the 5.4 cat,s and you will only lose 1 frame in doom3, thats all.
