Hello all-- I'm not new to building computers (though I haven't done it in about 3 years) but I am new to OC'ing, and I've been reading this forum for like a month now, very helpful stuff... However, I couldn't wait long enough for a Venice so I broke down and just got a 3200+ Winchester from NewEgg. I've been trying to overclock it using a DFI LanParty nF4 Ultra-D, and 1GB (512x2) OCZ DDR 3200:

and a Thermaltake 480 Watt PSU:

But I keep getting blue screens of death in between the XP startup screen and the initial login/desktop popping up when I get my FSB up past 219 and/or change my RAM timings to 2-2-2-8 in the Genie BIOS on the DFI Ultra (at 3.3 V, maybe that's not high enough... are there other settings I should change besides the CAS, RAS TO CAS, etc.?), saying Machine Check Interrupt or Machine Check error, one of the two-- and at one point, it even did a check on my HD and found some errors it had to fix.

I don't want to ruin anything, I just spent over a grand on my new box... (Lian Li 6077, Lite On 16x DL DVD-R, ATI Radeon X800XL <would have gotten an 6800GT but I had gift certificates at Best Buy ;-)> and a XP-90c Thermaltake HeatSink with Artic Silver 5 and a 92mm fan on top (Temps are consistently between 26-29 at idle), Hitachi 160 GB SATA. )

So I was wondering-- does anybody have any suggestions? What should I jack my CPU voltage to to get up to at least 2.4GHz, which from what I've read, should be no problem?

I hope I didn't fry something. The first couple of times I powered my box on I didn't have the 12V 4-pin connector hooked up, and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't boot... (everything would turn on, the LED's would stay in start-up mode but the darn thing wouldn't boot) but I finally I figured it out and plugged it in, but I don't think that would fry anything. Also, when I moved the jumpers from 1-2 to 2-3 on my MOBO to enable 3.2-4.0 DRAM voltage settings (after changing the CPU voltage in the BIOS from auto to 1.325 V) the directions said to turn off the box and unplug the power cord, but I just turned my computer off, and didn't turn off the PS or unplug it (there was still standby power to the board) so I hope that didn't mess anything up, but again, I don't think it would have.

My question is-- do I need to have my RAM voltage jacked in order to get 2-2-2-8 out of it, and do I need to do anything else, or do I just have a dud system for OC'ing and be happy it boots at all? This isn't my first time build, I know how to put stuff together and was careful... I just wonder if perhaps my power source isn't big enough, but again, thought it would be okay...

Thanks guys <and gals...> any help or advice would be more than appreciated to this first time overclocker.

Also-- I just ran 3Dmark05 and got a score of 4572 with the free version (1024x768, no AA)

Can u get in @ stock speeds? Did u install Windows while overcloced? I usually had that happen to me when I installed windows while overclocked.

BSOD always means you're pushing the memory too much. Try dropping the multiplier and just overclocking the ram first, then overclock the cpu once you find the best ram overclock. Don't forget to lower the LDT multiplier so that you can keep your HTT frequency below or at 1000MHz. :stick:

and make sure you have a good psu (note previous thread 'where's my problem?') :)

But he has a decent PSU. I think u should lower u ram ratio.
Then it will easily go to 2400ghz
