View Full Version : New block to DFI LP ULTRA

I'm having temp problems on my DFU LP ULTRA due to OC'ing of the CPU. The chipset often exceeds 57 deg celsius and the highest I've seen is 61C which is too much!
So I am wundering if anyone can recommend a cheap and effective chipset cooler to this MB. It seems like there isnt much room since the graphic-card is in the way.
I've got the Thermaltake bigwater set in my computer, and would like a new chippset cooler which fits to this rig. You can also recommend other altarnatives that aren't watercooled chipsetcooler.

koolance chipset block...i dunno if it has the appropraite clearance, but the inlet/outlet are at each corner, and not the middle. I've got 2 chipset blocks, cpu block, and two rads all on that pump...becasue of the low flowrate, the koolance bloacks work wonders with the thermaltake kit.

Do you have a link?

on my chipset,
this:

on my videocard,
and this:
http://www.koolance.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=29_44&products_id=114
on my cpu.
same tubing size as the thermaltake kit.(check my avatar, but the cpu block is not in it)

ouch. that would make running your tubing very difficult...trust me on that one.

I use a Zalman ZM-NB47J northbridge cooler on mine ULTRA board, you only have to cut one of the pointy things off to make it fit but you also has to have a decent airflow through the case or this setup will also get to hot.

oh yea most definatly, but i think that is one he was refering too with the inlet/outlet comming out of either corner of the block? hmm...any waterblock to fit there is going to be hard as the videocard leaves so little room.

do you find it helped lower your chipset temp any? i notice that my chipset with the retail HS/F gets hot as well and i have good airflow over the area as well. if this helps then i may buy one for myself :)

These cooler are very effective and will defenitely keep your temps down:

the outlets on the top of the block, at the corners, would be much easier to route...check out the links i posted for the 2 chipset coolers...the only real issue is if they are too tall, or not. All the chipset blocks are the same height, AFAIK...they just changed where the inlet/outlet are located.

yeah thats true about them all being roughly the same height. Maybe the Swiftech MCW50 would work...

But I don't know if the temp read out is accurate.

i can't see the swiftech one fitting under the videocard if the fan was left on the thermaltake one looks awesome though, slim fan and a low profile design i think that would work.

thats kinda funny, you would think that the stock heatsink with a fan would be better than a passive heastink with case airflow over it...but i've never tried one so if what you say is true thats great.

Ok. Thanks for your suggestions! I like the Koolance coolers. Just have to find a norwegian web-shop which has them. That can be a problem! If I order from koolance.com I have to pay 25% more. That's what our government steals from me if I order from other countrys when it costs more than 15$!!

Are you overvolting the chipset?
Those are pretty high temps.
Have you reseated the cooler or put on some AS5?

Haven't played at all with chipsett voltage, only put CPU voltage up to 1.65V..

this looks nearly perfect for the job, especially if you have SLI cards.

Good but a bit expensive..

Custom waterblock made for SLI boards with them annoying funky chipset placement....

Yeah, I would like to know too, please.
Whats the best chipset block that fits with 1/2" fittings?

it's gold plated...what did ya expect?
Kunaak..are you using this block on a NF4 chipset? it is not a very good performer(remember he has a thermaltake kit). the other Koolance blocks are the same height, so will work as well.

No worries m8 ;)
The Freezer coolers are made from Copper and Brass so dont start about Gold plz ^_^
I'm thinking about getting it for my future setup, the only worry for me is i got a lovely big ol' american 1/2" DD setup and i dont wana f**k up my flow so i'm thinking to put it paralel to my maze4 gpu block, the chipset will get LESS flow, yes i know, but it doesnt need THAT much is my idea :)
Custom build blocks come @ a price and they are the first to sell these things, so their price is justified..

Come on... i was expecting a bit more from you... smart guy from Holland ;)
(i almost bought the Iwaki from you :p: )

i thought that the thing was a koolance one...i see it's not. the are identical in appearance, but the koolance one is gold.
Thanks for pointing that out...that cooler looks well designed...the koolance that is similar was not!!
wait a minute...the one kunaak posted IS a koolance, from the looks of it. The freezer ones are far different.

they are copper and brass.. which still doesn't justify 58 dollars without internation shipping.

wow...dude above just said that, and i said i was refering to the one kunaak posted... :slapass:
i took this from the koolance site...
The CHC-A05, with a maximum heat rating of 30W, is well suited for motherboard Northbridge chipsets. It also includes a bracket compatible with P-4 motherboards.
This 1 x 1 inch (2.6 x 2.6 cm) cooler features the same materials as the CPU-200G: solid copper with 21k gold plating (top and internally).
So, uh, did you read the posts...the one right above yours? :slap:

any 1/2" blocks that fit and dont kill frow that much? :(
Ill be using a single GPU solutions, so it only has to be low enough

i second what turok said, i'm getting a dfi nf4 and a venice, cant wait to start my first watercool project, but all those blocks look like they kill flow. is there anything more mainstream that will fit, as long as it clears the first card i'll be fine, no plans on going sli.

normally, I wouldn't recommend anything Koolance.
but theres just no real watercooling solution for the NB of motherboards, when using a NF4.
so you mod whatever looks like it can do the job, and give it a shot.
if I was gonna try a block for the NB, thats what I would have tried first.
but no, I do not have one.
