View Full Version : So PCIE X800pro VIVO to XT yes or no?

I heard its possible but I also heard that they are laser cut hard locked. Whats the verdict and is there any hope? I'm ditching this 6800 for a ATI/PCIE setup but the only affordable X800 is the regular X800pro. And how much of an impact do the 4 pipes have on 3d01 scores?

Higher nature scores. Check on the ORB..

Just get a used X800XT PCI-E -> pwnage card :)

Yes I know that but HOW MUCH higher? Has anyone done a comparison? Is it just a few hundred points or are we talking 1k+ here?

I'll get a used X800XT if you can find me one in the sub 300 dollar range. I think getting a diago over a venice is more important than an XT over pro...

Sort of unrealistic for 300. Why don't you just do a comparison online X800PRO vs X800XT at around the same clocks on the ORB?

Because than I have to FIND similar ones... All to much work. I'll just get the X800pro and see what happens. 12 pipes or 16 pipes, it HAS to be better than this Nvidia hunk of junk. I just realized I probably need a 24 pin PSU to...

Let us know how you make out with the flash, afireinside. I've been wondering if the "PCI-E cards are unflashable" rumours were true and haven't really been able to find an answer.

Have you seen this link:
http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/100

It will only work on the X800 Pro VIVO. Manufacturer does not matter. It will not work on the X800 Pro (without VIVO).
The modified flashrom has been updated on Jan 03 2005 to support both AGP and PCI-Express X800 Pro VIVO cards. The mod is the same, just get a X800 XT PE PCI-E BIOS when flashing a PCI-E card.

Well you wont find out for a while because I still have to toy with this stupid 6800 (I REALLY want to make it work out for me...) than I need MONEY. I completely forgot I need a 24 pin PSU when I go NF4/PCIE which isin't good. ~750 for diago/NF4/x800 is really bad as it is...

The latest X800 Pro Vivo PCI-E are not softmoddable. I have had two so far and both were lasercut AND had 2.0ns memory. I heard of one potential guy writing a birdge over the lasercut to enable the 16pipes - but I rather doubt it to really have worked out. Nevertheless you would still have the 2.0ns which sucks.

But one of the X800 Pro overclocked quite nicely and I was able to get a nice 3Dmark05 score of 6205 points on stock heatsink and stock voltages ( 4.4Ghz P4). whith some modding they should be good for mid to high 6ks - or even 7000 if you go all out

When did you get yours and who was the manufacturer ?
I tested a Powercolor and a Sapphire - both had lasercut and 2.0ns.

Again I was referring to the latest cards - I believe early 2004 models didn't have the lasercut - but I have a feeling from all the modding going on out there ATI was stepping in to make an end to this.

Unfortunately I haven't seen a verifiable success in modding a PCI-e X800 Pro to 16p for a long time. I was hoping for the same easy bios flash mod that worked so well w/my AGP card, but apparently ATI has said enough is enough.

On the bright side, the XT's are starting to become available at almost reasonable prices and the XL is not that far behind in performance at a substantially lower cost.

Yeah I'm thinking of hitting up on that deal myself.

How hard could it be to connect the two points? I mean if the pipes are defective then they're defective. Just take out the bridge you painted on and flash it back to an X800 Pro.

Also I believe that virtually all X800s have defective pipes, which is why they weren't used as X800XLs. Only real exception would be 128MB versions, but those aren't in stock anywhere that I know of.

EDIT: Dammit, refurb X800 Pros for $200 are out of stock.

Sorry to tell you - you missed out on an amazing deal - the card came with full retail package with all cables etc. Not that anyone really cares - but the real kicker is that:

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=807881
Mind you the score is low - since it was benched on my Mini ITX mobo which is tiny - but also a bit slow ( and a 3.2GHZ P$)

I runs on stock cooling / stock everything! Only have a 120mm fan blowing over the card.
621/589mhz all stock - my card must have one of the fastest cores. I checked to see if the previous owner penciled anything but couldn't see any signs - but I might have overlooked the right places to look at.
The cores is faster than on my X850XT PE - man if that 800 could get the pipes unlocked it would be sweet - especially after some volt mods

Looks like I'll be coming home with a BBA X800PRO soon.

I just wrote an email to my "pusher" whether they are 2,0ns or 1,6ns RAm cards. When I get it it'll be running a Swiftech MCW50-T 80w TEC :D

Hope to get just over 600 with that ;)

nice!
I had 3 PCI-E so far - all of em had 2.0ns.

Good luck with your X800.
BTW there are some really nice ( and super cheap) 110Watts TEC on ebay which would fit your swiffy if you want to go stronger..

You mean you had 3 X800 Pro PCI-Es with 2.0ns right ??? cos you have an X850XTPE in your sig and I seriously doubt THAT comes with 2.0ns

Actually the XL has a completely different core (0.11 fab vs 0.13).
Heres an interesting comparison

Finally, I am permitted to post. Some info about what I've tried:

----X800PRO VIVO PCI-E----

Stock setup (475/450): 3dmark03 10090
X800XT settings (500/500): 3dmark03 10800
X800XTPE settings (540/560): 3dmark03 11218

So, I did all this just using atitool. The card is from sapphire. I didn't do any mods to the card, and the stock cooling worked fine. My temps were ~ 52C.

I tried the AGP trick flashing the BIOS to XT or even PRO VIVO 16P, but nothing helped. All that the flash did for XT was make 500/500 my default speeds. So, for now it looks like we are stuck. But, on a good note, we can run at XTPE clocking with stock components.

nope, you're wrong there. Do a search anywhere and it will tell you. Both the X800 and X800XL are based off of the R430.

Actually, I think we've all gotten a little confused. The X800 (nothing after) and the X800 XL both share the same 0.11 micron process, yes. The X800 Pro and X800 XT both share the same 0.13 micron process.

For some reason the topic of conversation switched from X800 Pro VIVO PCI-E to X800 (nothing after) PCI-E and now it's all confused.

In summation, there appears to be no reliable way to change 12 pipe X800 or X800 Pro PCI-E cards to whatever their 16 pipe equivalents would be, which sucks. :slap:

Ive used my 3000+ cpu in an AGP and PCIE board with identical memory settings. In the AGP system is an XTPE @ 520/560 and PCIE is x800pro 12 pipe 580/550.

Both systems score identical for the default 3d2001 bench - 28.8K
Scores for default 3d2003 is 12700 for the XTPE and 12400 for the x800pro.
Where is see a difference is when i bump up the res and AA. If i use 1280x1024 with 4X and 4X the XTPE scores 6950 and the x800pro 6120.

:D yep that X850XTPE certainly was 1.6ns....but it's gone now - my X800 PRO has been so much fun that I decided to save some $$ and sell the PE...my X800 PRO VIVO that I purchased for $205 actually had insane clocks 621/589 - with stock voltages.

BTW Newegg currently has X800 Pro Vivo refurbs in for $203 again. It's the same SR version from Sapp that I have - came with full retail box...
