just wondering if theres a for sale forum here ? i normally sell my stuff elsewhere and just lurk here, but ive got a couple of 3 ghz e0 prescotts which i thought the overclockers might like, cos i cant shift them elsewhere :(
is there a for sale forum here ? i cant see one, but most places restrict it to only people with a certain amount of posts

Yes there is a for sale forum.
But it only can be accessed once you reached 100 posts.

Saves you a bundle though, you're likely better off not knowing what's for sale  Every time I've gotten into a f/s section, I'm broke before i can get out...
You've got me curious what's in that thread tho...

I think the forum treats new people very well indeed, in comparison to some danish forums I know.
However, if someone asks a question we all know the answer to, then the answer is to be expected.
I didn't mean to directly insult, merely wished to make a "lifte eyebrow" gesture. I could have chosen :stick: instead of :slap:, but it all comes down to the same thing.

However, if someone asks a question we all know the answer to, then the answer is to be expected.
If we all knew the answer to it there wouldn't be anyone left to ask the question, would there?
The person asking the question doesn't know the answer and where you might have heard the question a thousand times, it's probably the one and only time that they have ever asked it.
It doesn't take any more effort to help a new person with an old question than it does to humiliate them in front of strangers.

To make things clear for everyone :
You'll need 100 posts before can access the Classifieds section.
In that section, you can sell your stuff, or start a new topic in the "Wanted" section (which is located in the Classifieds too).
Other than that, there's no other way to buy/sell your stuff.
Using your signature for selling/wanting stuff isn't allowed either, you'll get a warning for that.
Like I said before, if you visit the forum frequently, and contribute as much as possible (without spamming around of course), you'll have 100 posts in no time.

There are 2 methods. You can either PM a mod to edit in the price change or you can post in the thread stating the price drop.
skate2snow
05-12-2005, 04:21 PM
J-Mag, Thats the point... The original information on the thread needs to remain intact. You just need to bump your thread with the new price or updates. And revelant updates like SOLD Items will be changed in the original post by mods normally.

Probably because they don't want the newbs trying to strike deals by bypassing the forums and sending PMs instead.
I have a long way to go, but I think it'll be worth it to trade with established members. Hopefully that means dealing with more experienced builders and fewer lowballers. Trading on Hardforums and Anandtech is driving me crazy :D

Are you saying that PMs would be disabled for anyone under 100 posts? Because I don't think there's a way to check if someone is sending a PM just to someone on the for sale forum. So that would mean it would be disabled completely. Somehow, I think the system works just fine the way it is :)

I understand why there is a limit to post in FS but why do you need 100 to browse through it? Ok, if you are under 100post and is browsing the for sale because you would have the permission to BROWSE and see a VERY good deal.... What will you do? For sure you will PM ASAP!
And anyway, the priviledge to post in the forums is only a part of the priviledge... The real one is being able to see it, because anyway, any deals should be dealed and conclude by PM.
The for sale on the forums is a limited priviledge... I doubt they would really want to put time in it for tools like that.... Which I personnaly think, arent worth.....
What tools?
I don't mean for the forum to install some type of price checker.
I meant, can I go in the FS forum and say, "Hey, I have this vid card, and what it is worth used to someone here."

hmmm for that you would have to start with a prciea nd then lower it bit by bit if nobody wants it until somebody pms you :)
Yeah, I guess that is the best way. I can't get a good picture of the damn thing...I have watercooling and don't want to remove the card for a pic, and I can't seem to get a good shot while it is in the stupid case.
Problem 2? The card I have is a retail Built by ATI. Through price checks online, they still go for about $70 more than a Sapphire OEM version of the card. So...do I price it compared to that, or to the one I own? That may sound dumb, but unless someone has to have ATI stamped on there, they can get the same card new for less than mine used.
saaya
06-09-2005, 05:40 PM
1. a bad pic doesnt matter, the pic is sjust as aproof that you really have the hardware your selling, as long as you can see the card on it its ok, bad angle blurry dark doesnt matter.
2. the difference is quality control and support i think, wich is better for the bba cards. but im not sure. just start with a higher price and mention the same thing you said here, that the cards cost more in retail. if you dont get any feedback you can lower the price bit by bit :)

Glad you answered cause I was about to panick :D
1. a bad pic doesnt matter, the pic is sjust as aproof that you really have the hardware your selling, as long as you can see the card on it its ok, bad angle blurry dark doesnt matter.
2. the difference is quality control and support i think, wich is better for the bba cards. but im not sure. just start with a higher price and mention the same thing you said here, that the cards cost more in retail. if you dont get any feedback you can lower the price bit by bit :)
I sold it to a buddy of mine for $400 shipped, so I don't need to worry about it anymore thankfully. I will know for the future if I need to sell anything though.

I am sorry. I do not understand why there is a post count to be able to purchase items for sale. I can understand why there is to sell. People have to feel comfortable that they aren't going to get ripped off. But to purchase, why 100 posts? Why not 1 post? As long as the check clears the bank or the PayPal balance is tranfered to the bank, it should be a done deal. I am no where near 100 posts, yet I am a frequent reader and I participate when I have something to contribute. So instead of being able to make incredible offerings to m8's here, I have to sell on ebay, in which I have 50 feedbacks @ 100% positive. I am fixing to have to list a 3500+ in a retail box that has been used in my rig for 4 months, plus it comes with the remainder of the 3yr warranty for $100USD off of the current retail price. I could list it for a bit more, but I need a quick sale. Same for a brand new X800XT that has never been used, and this will be an unbeliveable low price. I would rather have a chance to offer it to these m8's that I actually interact with as often as I feel like I have something positive to contribute, rather than a strager I have never had any interaction with, know what I mean? I understand rules are rules. And I have to abide by them. It's just that 100 posts for a m8 like me will take a while. And in the meantime, the members here will be missing out on some great deals that I have from time to time. That's all.

Hey Cerberus... nice seeing you on XS :D
I completely agree with the mods choice of 100 posts..... it's tough to get there, but it gives the members of the forum more time to get to know you and how you act. I won't buy from someone I know is a pain in the butt on the forum just because I feel he doesn't deserve my business.
Personally, I would have made it higher but then that might drive off some good sellers.

Now I know this is going to be a rather common question that some people just wont get.
1st off, we do it because most trolls wont bother sticking around long enough to get to 100 posts just to sell something. There are plenty of other forums they can post right away, so it makes it slightly tougher on trolls.
2nd, It gives other members on the site a chance to get to know you a little bit. Its not alot, but a touch.
3rd, We as Xtreme Systems Staff have discussed and agreed this is a worthwhile move to attempt to make our classifieds safer for our members.
4th, Xtreme Systems is not a classifieds forum. It is a forum for like minded people to share their thoughts, views and accomplishments on computer hardware. The classifieds are simply a way to help our members by providing a safer place to do buys/sells/trades.
Finally, like it or not, it is a rule that is here to stay, accept it or deal elsewhere. ~_^

I think we should make it 200 posts so I can have a celebration post and complain why I can't use the For Sale forum until it updates :D.
Another oddity about the FS forum: posts don't count for the post count it seems??? I noticed a someone there had 101 but like 5 posts in the section and then noticed that when I posted it didn't go +1.
A recommendation for the FS forum, like the regular forum, is to have a 'free' edit for the first 2-3 minutes or so (but acknowledge the edit, unlike in the regular forums), then lock it.
The limit to no editing is stayin the way it is. Just an FYI. ~_^
As for the no post count, no, they dont count in there, or in a few other sections either. To easy to spam in those places, so no counting.
perry_78
07-10-2005, 12:33 AM
THe no editing and 100 post limit are fine enough, both have a valid reasonm which I believe has been discussed a few times by now :)
I think the chat section should not count to the overall post forum, I'm horrified when I see I have a 6+ posts a day average primarily due to that place :p:

Well I passed 200 anyway. Already made 2 deals there too...250 maybe? :D
As for the editing, I still don't see why a 2 minute window isn't allowed....even after previewing, etc., I still notice some word I misspelled or some detail I forgot or something I want to add or messed up on some formatting stuff (this should never happen with preview, but w/e). The small 2 minute window prevents people from making drastic changes to save their asses in whatever way they might need to do, which I completely agree with.
Anyway, I'm not really pushing for a rule change, but I'd just like a clearer explanation why a 2 minute editing window isn't okay? btw, I'm not talking about 2 minutes to decide to edit, I mean 2 minutes to COMPLETE the edit

I'd actually go for 2 minutes after you post you have the option of editing.... because I make a lot of errors in my posts or I forget to put the prices in, something always goes wrong. Interesting idea anyway.

As you can see from the number of posts I've made on this forum, I rarely give my 2 cents on comments made by members. However, I must say it's extremely ridiculous that you would limit access to the classifieds just b/c a member has not posted more than 100 times. Cash is cash and it doesn't matter if it comes from a noobie like myself or a veteran member. Actually, if you think about it, a much higher price would be had from the noobies for a few reasons: 1) noobies have not acquired the "skills" to make custom things and are willing to pay top-dollar to have something they want, 2) noobies likely don't know a good price from a rip-off. I really think the admins should re-evaluate their policy on 100+ posts. Just b/c I have made few posts on this forum does not mean I'm clueless as to what I am doing, plus, I'm willing to spend more money on top of the line custom jobs than 99% of members.

You need to understand that XS is NOT a place where everybody comes just to trade. This is one of a kind Forums and Classfieds access is sort of a priviledge. It's not [H] (nothing against them) where you sign up and boom, you're trading (at least it used to be like that, not sure if still is, though...)
Look around, please. We want you to contribute to our community not just use it or take from it ;)

So the 100 post rule should be dropped because it prevents people from taking advantage of noobies? That's just one of the many reasons it is in effect and a ridiculous arguement for dropping it.

If payment is through Paypal and a bank account is being used with a confirmed address (not a credit card), the transaction is as good as cash delivered straight to your hands. This would only be the case if a veteran member is selling to a noobie (not vice versa.)

I think that anyone should be able to browse the For sale forum, reply to threads, and purchase stuff, but you should have to have 100 post to be able to start a new thread.
Reason behind this. The seller can't get ripped off. Just the buyer.

As has been stated time and again, these rules are set in place to protect the members of the forums. They have been debated on time and again with members and staff alike. They are there and they will not be changing. Your best bet is to either accept it and contribute here until you read 100 posts or deal elsewhere. ;)

I've been on these forums forever and only have 64 posts or so...haha. I see some people that have been here a few months and have over 100- SPAM!
I guess I just read a lot and only post when necessary. By searching I can find almost any answer I need so I rarely am forced to actually ask a question. Because of this, I wouldn't be surprised if I don't get to 100 posts until 2006.
hi,
I've got over 100 posts and I can't see any for sale forum...
and don't you become an extreme member after 100 posts?
xyus
i just noticed i've ticked over the 100 post mark... so i thought i'd check out the for sale forums... but i still cant get at them  any ideas?
As said before, if you were to read the thread there have been several posts that answer that question already.
A few quotes to point that out.
Just wait an hour or two.... This question as FREQUENTLY been answered....
The server updates every hour, but sometimes it happens that it bugs and you only have access 2 or 3 hours after...
read this thread please ;)
your question has been answered several times already :D
the server updates every few hours, so it can take some hours, sometimes a day until you get access :)
Actually, the server updates hourly. Once you reach 100 posts within an hour, you will have access.
some people said they had to wait for several hours, sometimes we backup the database or perform other changes to the site, so it can take more than one hour :)
it should usually be less than one hour though, yeah :)
Sometimes it is a good thing to actually read a thread before posting in it. ;)
Now, go surf through the classifieds and find something to buy! LoL

Is the for sale forum laid out like the main one, with seperate sub categories for ram, cpu, etc.?
Davos

most probably not, possibly sub forums for usa, europe etc. maybe the suspense will help you to post more :)

I would like to see the classifieds myself, but I don't really post here much. I read a lot, but barely respond, and I've been here for a few years. Is it possible to give individual permissions or something, cause I don't want to spam 100 posts just to see it...
Sorry but no. If we made exceptions for one we would be swarmed with requests to make exceptions on nearly everyone. It is not hard to post quality posts and reach 100 posts in no time at all.

I`ve realized XS has FS thread only on my 300 (or more) posts :D
People don`t want to wait for Clasifying - visit other forums where FS is available for every body :D
SamHughe, nice try on that btw. ;)
Next off there are tons of other forums that dont have that sort of limit on their classifieds. If you must get rid of your items and absolutely cannot wait, nothing is stopping you from going there.
We have this in place in a minor attempt to help protect the members of our site.
As I have come to enjoy saying.....

to make a for sale forum work, you need strickt rules. at overclockers.com.au we have a for sale forum and it actually works verry well. We have 4 or so people to moderate the fs area alone cause it's a lot of work making sure everyone does the right thing.
saaya
10-04-2005, 05:08 PM
fortunately most people here on xs are very uncomplicated to deal with :)
and most dont need to be reminded of the rules, but yeah its a lot of work to keep the fs section clean.

Well, I'm sure it's a lot easier now that we can't post responses....that was a good idea.
IDEA: what if there were a selection of 5 premade responses that we could select from and each could only be used once or twice or something and would count AGAINST your post count....1) Pictures please! 2) Dibs! 3) Got heatware? 4) YGPM 5) Good price! (or something like those)

DIBS? YGPM? wtf?>
you cant "use" those unless your ion the fs/ft section anyways.. I dunno why you have that wierd idea..
and besides, general chat, and I dont think fs/ft section have postcount+1 on posts ;)
Not like you need it in the fs/ft anyways :slap:

I don't go in there as much any more. Seems boring. There wasn't a lot of crapping before. I think sometimes the banter has sold some things. I remember buying my prommie hearing something like "Oh man killer deal, if i lived near you I'd buy that." I thought to myself yeah that is a good deal.

if you have suggestions on how to improve the classies please post about it in the forum comments section. limiting posts you can make in a thread will be very complicated and i dont really see the necessarity :P

There was a thread like that in the "Forum Comments" section and it got merged with a thread in the "For Sale" section so we can't post on it anymore.
I feel that they don't want us to talk about this anymore though since they basically closed the thread by moving it to a section we're not allowed to post on anymore. I'm not sure why this happened either, the conversation was very civil, and it was mostly just an opinion/idea exchange thread.

Can we advertise our items on e-bay in for sale section? I, for example, would like to give xtreme forum members extra 10% discount if they bid and win my auction so can I post on the forum and say "hey I have this and this on e-bay and here's the deal"?
Ugly n Grey
10-06-2005, 08:44 PM
No you cannot do that. Please read the forum rules for a full description.http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/announcement.php?f=120&announcementid=38
Apparently to reach 100 posts, you can just post in this thread about 75 times =P

Upon a closer look at recent posts in this thread I think that all that was needed have been explained here...
That's why it is now gonna be locked.
To summarize...
1. There is a Classfieds section here on XtremeSystems.org Forums.
2. To get there one needs 100 posts and there are basically no exceptions to that. So don't even ask :)
3. It usually takes few hours for our server to update one's permissions after 100th post was reached.
4. After that period of time, Classfieds section will show up on the very bottom of our Forum Index.
5. You can start selling/buying/trading then.
After gaining access to Classfieds section you can express your opinion about it in this thread (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=74085). It's open for posting and If one can't see it now (no permission to access page error) it means that one has no access there due to below 100 postcount.
:welcome: to XS and have a nice ride :)
