ah sorry for making my own thread but i have some specific questions
i have some money, and need to get a new cpu, and will have some left over, so i thought why not put wc on your gpu
6800s love water
so im getting a second hand maze4, and either a single or dual 120mm HC
which would be the best for just a gpu loop? dont want overkill
the pump i have to buy new, at my fav shop theres a 1048 and a swiftech mcp350. the eihiem is cheaper, but has less head i think? the 350 has 13ft of head :D
i decided not to get a danner since you have to do so much work to them
i dont have a case so space isnt much of an issue as long as i can cram it onto my table
gonna run 1/2" ID tubes of course
noise isnt much of an issue since my compresser is noisy, and my condenser fan is LOUD. im right in thinking i need at least 70cfms?
and im gonna put some hydrx in there.
i also thinking i want a res, so i can put ice cubes in there for benching. can i make one out of a tupperware container?
Yup, 6800's love water!
I think the 1048 would be sufficient to cool the GPU, but is it that much cheaper? It probably has 1/2 the head of the DDC, IMO DDC is a better long term value.
A res... you can make it out of anything.... wooden bucket if you want... it just holds water! :) Of course, choose res material with some thought, ease of fabrication, sealing, barbing, space requirements, etc.
I made my temporary res from a small plastic Folgers coffee can! Get bulkhead fitting type barbs, easy to install, no silicone.

Hey reject,
how where you planning on cooling the ram on the 6800? or where you planning on using one of those gpu and ram blocks? i would like to eventualy put mine in the loop too. after i get the loop constructed that is...

Are you getting the prices from pccasegear? If so spend the extra $11 and get the MCP350.

nah, cooling the ram along with the core on a video card is a BAD idea. on my arctic silencer, which cools both, the core reaches about 66 load, if i oc it further and gets to 70c loaded, the mems artifact no matter the speed. this reduces both mem and core clocks. :(
so if the maze 4 has clearance im gonna put on some vantec ramsinks i have, otherwise leave em bare. GDDR3 may have low tolerance to temperature but it runs pretty cool
@Wang: is the DDC the mcp350? lol and about barbs, like where do i get em? this is the shop im buying from, unless someone knows another reliable place in australia http://www.pccasegear.com/category160_1.htm
damn these pumps are expensive can i just use an aquarium pump?
yep you got it john :D
EDIT: wat about a heatercore? should i get a 120 or 240mm? i wanna get to about 450ish on my gpu

I'm lookin to cool mine with a MAZE4 and tweakmonster BGA Ramsinks, I hear those are some of the best although technically RAM doesn't really get that hot anyway

With the rad as single 120 will work fine with a good fan..
BUT if you get a dual 120 then you will have headroom for a pelt in the future... and space isnt an issue.
As for the pump if you go down to your local aquarium place they will sell pumps. Any pump will work for watercooling. Just look for the max head on them.
Fountain pumps are probably going to be the best.

if you are using 1/2" id tubing you wont be able to fit bga sinks under the bards but the water block .....
im using clearflex 1/2 and my ocz ramsinks wouldnt fit - so they are bare

Yeh, MCP350 is the same pump, they are pretty expensive there. Like mentioned... if price is that much of an issue... one could always use an aquarium pump, I used my 15yr old powerhead for 3 yrs watercooling.
The bulkhead type barbs one would have to source oneself...

lol just had to check that video, the barbs clear those RAMsinks(tweakmonsters at that) by a fair margin, but of course after tubing is added it looks like it still might fight although really close.......don't know guess I'll find out :D

if you want to shave the tubing down you might get them to clear but for me - the tubing would put just enough pressure on the sinks to make the pop off

i bench at around 420 core, and if its hot say 30c in my room, and i go to 425 core, the core is fine but the heatsink transfers the heat to the mems chips which then get too hot for there liking
so with a wb it will be sweet
im NOT gonna run a pelt on this card so 120x120mm will be okay then. will a 120mm evercool be nice?
wat are bulkhead barbs? those pump prices are in AU$
2 other sites i hear are good are
www.davidandkarma.com.au and
www.pcca.com.au
but ive never ordered from there, only pc case gear

Hhe my X800XT PE has come down from around 50C idle to 28C idle.
