I have Leadtek 6800U and i want to do pencil mod, described in this article
http://www.vr-zone.com/index.cgi?i=926&s=1

I have some questions regarnding, cause I am kinda new in this.

Is resistance monitoring done on graphic card in comp or out or with comp on or off.
Is voltage monitoring done on graphic card in comp or out or with comp turned on or off.
Do you have to in pencil mod draw the whole green path displayed in that picture or is it enough to draw one line and then measure resistence and then draw the other two if necessery.

Although I dont recomend doing this sort of pencil mod (its too random for me) ill answer the questions.

What your trying to do it to effectively reduce the value of the resistor by bypassing it with the pencil. So you need to draw all the way around it.

ALLWAYS measure resistances with the card OFF. You dont want to slip and short your card out.
Take your card out of the coputer so you can see what your doing.

Draw lightly to start with, then measure. If its still too high, draw again.. repeat untill the resistance is what VRzone recomend (7.4k ohms)

Personally I would do the soldering mod, as its more reliable and more accurate..

thx for the answer, i am kinda fond of pencil mod, because the card dies, i could probably get a new one due to the warranty, if i solder on it, probably not and this card is really expensive at this time.

Any vmod done to your card, either pencil or soldering, will void your warranty. Sending hardware to RMA because you screwed it up while vmoding is a really bad thing to do. If you can't pay for a new card, then don't do vmods to it.

are there some moral isues, if you have a card, that doesn't work and there are not traces of any phisical interventions, why wouldn't you try to get replacement? I think it would be foolish to throw nearly 900$ (yes this it the price of the card in my country) thru the window.

Most people would think it foolish to modify a $900 card then....

If you cant afford to kill it then you shouldnt be modding it IMO.

The only issue here is honesty. If I were to buy a VC from you that you guanrantee it is in perfect working condition, try to vmod it as soon as I get it, kill it, and then contact you informing that the card doesn't work and i want my money back. How would you feel? I hope you get my point here.

When I do vmods for a costumer, if I kill the hardware I don't tell them to try to RMA it. I pay for a new one.

Since we have zero tolerance for warranty/RMA discussions and so nobody here gets in trouble, I am closing this thread.
