Hello gurus, need some help comparing these 2 bioses:

http://www.vr-zone.com.sg/Shamino/biosnv/xfx1.rom

http://www.vr-zone.com.sg/Shamino/biosnv/asuspcie.rom

I know the core clocks are different, but what else.
I get garbage screen when I flash the Asus with the XFX bios. What is the difference between the 2?

Since ASUS have a habit of creating proprietary names and cards/bioses, there is probably little way of knowing what they did that is special for your supposed 6800U PCI-E card.

However looking at both bioses, it appears that the asuspcie.rom, although indicated as a 6800U, is based on a lesser cards bios, ie possibly a GT. Whereas the XFX1.rom file looks like a genuine 6800U bios ?

So maybe you should try a few more Ultra bioses if only to prove that the xfx1.rom bios is a unique problem. However, if the problem persists, then it may just turn out that your asus card is "deliberately" produced in a way that makes it incompatible with other manufacturers Ultra Bioses ?

Basically there are certain differences in memory latencies, and clockspeeds in different modes. XFX bios should allow higher overclock for memory than the one from Asus. XFX bios uses same latencies that our Gainward Ultras in 13k run ;)

I fixed that XFX bios abit, so it should now work fine in Asus.
(No need to force flash, Asus ID:s changed in...

Flash only one card first to ensure that the bios is working properly.

If bios now works with just memory latency fix, then must be something peculiar to PCI-E ?

Other than having to make obvious memory speed change, my 6800LE flashes and runs ok with lots of 6800Ultra bioses. And the memory chip type and spec on my card is a million miles away from that used by a 6800U.

thx stilt!
i've already flashed the asus with asus bios and xfx timings and xfx with asus and xfx timings, so they shd both be recognized as the same card already?

I changed those XFX bios id:s to correspond ones from Asus only to ease up the flashing process. Technically it´s now Asus bios with XFX settings and latencies.
