i really dont understand why this startup value is available...I just need a Vcore....but now it is here plz guide me a little....i have a 3700+SD that goes to 220FSB with st. vcore but then is needing a lot to go any further....

Startup means "basic" VCore. Just let it at "Auto" if you want, and play with VID X%. But everything counts on how much are you aiming to get.

Regards!

PS: Sorry if my english is not very good :P

I'm having a problem with 43 C NB chipset temps... How can i fix this?

[G.N.U.]Fragman
08-03-2005, 06:18 PM
43c isnt a problem on NB.....they can go to 65-70 (official DFI statement)

thx eru. problem was that my cpu acts kind of weird...up to 225 it dont need any xtra vcore, but above that it needs plenty....running 1,61 (should have been 1,65 but nvm) @245FSB isnt very good.....tried new bios and it is not RAM that is holding it back....it only gets about 40c on load, but i am only using a xp120 and a revoltec 120mm on it, so i am worried about giving more vcore......hoped that something about startup VID was slowing it down....

I snooped a bit around some other forums 2 look 4 a solution to this.

But anyways, any of you know exactly what it is.

So far the solution I've come to is to disable 1 of the sata raid setups.
I have on controller 1 & 2 2 x sataII 250gb @ raid 0 and on controller 3 & 4 2 x sataI 160gb. And sometimes when i cooldboot the bluescreen kind'a just wrecks da day. The error not always been there, have had both raid setup's going for 4-5 weks now. but it's more often now. don't matter if board+cpu oc'ed or not. still same thing some days.

can any1 help.

How far do you think 4 512 sticks of OCZ Plat Rev 2 would overclock to...?

approx 333mhz(166FSB) or 400mhz(200FSB) depending on mobo and cpu....and only in 2T...4 sticks and oc just isnt an option with those cpus yet......

What's the whole Vdimm bug where Vdimm is applied prior to the system being on.

I unplugged my Seasonic 600W and then back in. Vdimm was 2.5 already even though system wasn't on. Turned it on and it goes to 3.3v as my VX needs...

Hi

I have a SLI-DR, can anyone tell me if the four sata slots of Silicon Image Raid controller are fixed so that is it possible to overclock without troubles at any fsb? is silicon image controller better than built in nforce4 nVidia one?

Having issues:

Was strugling with some random reboots from the warm summer weather so I decided to turn off my computer. Well I turn it back on and it hangs on lights. I figure, oh cold boot, ohh so evil. So I flip the clear Cmos jumper and sit back and watch Seinfeld for awhile (~45 min)

Went back to my CPU, put the jumper back, boots to DFI NF4 Splash Screen and hangs, wont go to bios and wont go anywhere. So I try again, pull the battery this time, same thing. Safe boot, same thing. Flip the switch a couple times with jumper in position, hang on splash.

Any ideas to try? please give your advice!

Wasnt sure what to search on for this problem, so here it is

Last night i tried out my 2x256mb bh6 just out of interest. This morning i put my gig of tccd back in. Now if i use cas 2.5, I get the first POST screen showing mem timings/hdds/bios date etc, but it stops after that. There's meant to be the second bios screen that shows IRQ allocations etc, but i dont get that. Trying to enter bios also gets the same result.

If i take out one stick, it works fine. Put the other stick in by itself, also fine.

Have tried 510-2FIX, 510-3FIX and 623-3, all getting the same result.

This is all at stock 200HTT btw

@SDX:

Had the same problem with system in sig and TwinMOS SP new bh-5.

What I did to solve it:
Jumperblock 4V back to 3.3V
Clear CMOS once again
Fired up the system and booted nice into bios again
without changing anything else I put the vcore settings to fixed values (no auto)
Save bios
reboot
put memory on 3.2V
switch off
4V jumperblock back to 4V
switch on
everything fine again
could go to the usual settings as before (I stayed on the safe side this time)

Hope this will work for U 2...

I have had a hard time choosing between the A8N Sli Prem and the DFI nF4 SLI-DR... But it has been settled now.. Anyway I am getting the DFI, a A64 Venice 3500+, 2x512mb Corsair PC3200* (some standard paried up Dual-Channel kit, it is NOT Value S.) and most probably the XP-90 with a decent fan to handle the cooling.

But before I order and build my new rig I have a few questions for ya all..
Would I be able to use the XP-120 instead of the Xp-90 and still be able to use the Orange DIMMs when the m/b is normally mounted (not inverted atx)?
As far as I know the mem is TCCD, so is there a good modded bios for the Corsair mem using TCCD and a Venice?

Instead of creating a new thread I thought I might aswell ask here.... :)
any help appreciated

*means this memory:
Corsair XMS 1024MB (2x512) PC3200 400MHz TWINX1024-3200C2 (2-3-3-6).

bios 704-2BT works very nice for all kinds of ram...

Instead of XP120, I'd consider the Big Typhoon, best aircooler atm and no problem for orange slots...

Checked out the Big Typhoon now and it does seems nice... Big and very good cooling according to reviews.
There is one thing though, in a forum one user claims that he had problems mounting it on a DFI LP nF4 and claimed that he had to come up with his own solution. Is that true or is he simply too stupid to mount it?

Thanks for the tip and if I can clear out that little question I think I now excactly what to get... :)

Edit: been reading about the Big Typhoon a little more now... Both on DFI-street and here, think I am gonna get the XP-90c instead, don't feel like lapping the Big Typhoon, fix the backplate on the DFI/replace it. Thanks for the tip anyway.

Need help, i think my Board is dying :(
a week ago i could run 2600 Mhz @ stock volts, 2770 @ 1,56 on my venice 3200+. Most of the time i ran 2770 with 180 div (~251 Mhz). Rams are Mushkin 3500 bh5. They should run at least 250 with 3,3v had them around 255 stable. But a few days ago a got a BSOD nearly every day sometimes a few of them a day. So i flashed Bios to 510 by Merlin. Problems stayed. So i flashed 704-2 BT Bios. Probls doesn' vanish so i examind the problem. Tried 230x10 with cpu @1,56v and Ram @3,2v => errors in memtest instantly :( i used the same 164 Tweaker settings which ran 250mhz stable a few days ago. So whats going on here ? want my overclock back :( Hope u guys can help me out. If u want to know details of my system just ask ;)

Are the memtest errors random or are they around a specific allocation?

ic3m4n2005
08-19-2005, 11:13 AM
Don't think tey are random, e.g. 230x10 Mhz and 3,2V (they must work at these settings) pass 3 or 4 of test #5 8 errors. Other example 250x10 3,3V (again they worked before) over 200 Errors first pass and even more after 2nd pass and so on. So wtf is going on here ?

OneyedK

Try increasing Trfc if the errors occur near the end of test #5.

If that doesn't work, try the sticks separately...

Nothing changed on the lines of your PSU? Especially 3.3 and 5V ???

I think my DFI's CMOS Reloaded is borked. None of the fields can be renamed:
I can still type what I want to the fields but the text just don't appear there after pressing enter in the 3rd row.
The strange thing is that the last row from the 1st slot's description (excluding the 1st letter) apppears to the 1st row of the 4th slot IF I save settings to the 4th slot. :D

I've tried reflashing and clear CMOS - no effect.

btw. Where is the CMOS Reloaded stored? If I use another bios chip, the settings that were saved while the other chip was seated, are still there.

The CMOS Reloaded is stored into the main memory...
So if you cannot change setting, that means the access to the memory is not ok (OC too high?)...
Normal working procedure:
Bios is loaded into memory upon boot
Changing bios setting happens in memory (different area than old settings)
pressing F10 saves them onto the bios chip

That's the reason why after pressing F10 you need a reboot,
so settings on bioschip are identical to those in memory.

Hope the explanation is a bit clear...

Hey largon, I had the same problem and I thought it was done. But how you fix it is load optimized defaults and then go and save over everything. Save to each bank then overwrite each description with nothing. Then reboot and try to save. I emailed DFI about this and they said that its stored somewhere on the mobo and the only way to fix it is to do it this way. So I tried it and it worked. So give it a try... I bet it works LOL

njkid32,
That didn't work. At least in the first time I tried it.

Symptoms getting weirder:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=36012&stc=1

The "01MHz / 1.6 vCore" is only visible for a fraction of a second, I had to shoot 25 pics to capture it. Normally this row reads
"┌──────Description──────┐"

"01MHz / 1.6 vCore" should be 1 row lower and read "2601MHz / 1.6 vCore"

"3-2-7 2.5 vDimm" should be 2 rows lower and read "2-3-2-7 2.5 vDimm"

Ok, so you cleared your cmos, loaded optimized defaults, saved to every bank and then saved a blank description on each bank?

The one thing I was told from DFI was that if you have anything saved in the cmos reloaded from a different bios and load them to a new bios it will mess things up for you.

So make sure you do a good cmos clear. Pull the battery then set the jumper to clear for like 10 min at least then put the jumper back to normal and put the battery back in. This has saved me many times. Then when you are done with this do the above save optimized defaults to every bank.

I was running memtest on my 4400+, it didnt seem as stable lately and i was trying to figure out why. After I ran memtest for ~5 hours I rebooted, increased vcore a little bit (to 1.45 * 1.10) and rebooted again. This time I got 3 lights... "CPU Detected" according to the manual, which would mean the memory is bad..? I try the memory in another computer and it's fine. Put it back in after clearing cmos repeatedly and still 3 lights. I try putting in my 3500+ winchester and I get one light this time... "System boot-up". Not sure what that one means. Clear again, still nothing.

I'm using the bigtoe modded 704 bios, 2.8v on ram, and not particularly high clocks (i was memtesting).

Any Ideas? I'm hosting a LAN here tomorrow and it's gonna suck if I cant get this rig running.

Are you getting bios beeps? If so try this--Just put 1 stick in the second orange slot! That will fix it (I think). I have had this problem several time. If you are able to boot with the 1 stick then set all your settings then save. After it posts shut it down and put the other stick in. If you are using a new bios and have stuff saved in the cmos reloaded then load optimized defaults and save over each bank in the cmos reloaded. NEVER use settings from another bios on your new one cuz it will cause problems for you.. Hope this helps!

Its prolly a stupid question but did you pull the battery out and set the jumper to clear and leave it for awhile. Then try to boot with the ram in the second orange slot. Did you try the X2 in another computer? Also do you have a second set of ram to try in the DFI.

I had a similar problem with my TCCD's and what I did was take my CH-5 and put it in the second orange slot and it booted just fine. It looks like the X2's dont really play nice with TCCD.

Yeah just let it clear for awhile. Try all your ram just to rule out anything else. Are you using the 3500 or the 4400? I would just clear the bios for at least an hour or so then try the 4400 and your 1 stick in the second orange slot. If it still doesnt work try different sticks of ram. Now if that still doesnt work put the 3500 in and see if you can get it to post.

I was able to get the 3500 to boot earlier. One light means it's booting, I just had the vga disconnected (silly mistake).

Using the 3500 I was able to also use cmos reloaded to pull up a bootable set of bios i had saved for the 4400 (it worked for the 3500 as well). The 4400 didnt boot with that either.

OK question the settings you have saved in the cmos reloaded are they from another bios? If they are you need to load optimized defaults and save over each bank. Then reboot and reset all your settings and save them again. You should never mix and match settings with different bios's. This came straight from DFI. I dont think you killed your X2 its just that they are really picky with these TCCD!

OK one more question--- the bios you are using is it the 704 or 704-2BT? If you were using the 704 and the special 123% you could have killed your chip!

Hi, just a tip for everyone having any stability problems, try uninstalling all nvidia drivers + the network access manager then install v6.53 but do not install the network access manager, also try using the marvell lan port instead since I find that I have less problems that way. As for the firewall u'll have to use something else (i.e. zonealarm) for now since the nvidia hardware firewall seems unstable for now..

guys i need your help.

well if u guys have looked at my old thread .. basically my system was running all fine and dandy lol .. when i switched from 2x512mb of gskill le's to 2x1gb crucial ballistix .. all i did was swap them in .. just changed the timing to 3-3-3-8 .. the voltage was at 2.9 .. no problems .. system ran great for 2-3 weeks .. then my system crashed .. always has happened from time to time with windows for some reason .. so as my system reboots .. i boot into the bios .. 6-23 is what i was running .. after seeing how most people are running their crucial ballistix at 2.6-2.7 .. i decided to lower mine to 2.7 ... after that ..havent successfully booted at all ...

sometimes it will post so i can go into the bios .. i load optimized defaults .. reboot .. and then all the leds pass except for the last one which is what it should be .. but i get no video .. just hangs .. then if i power down and power back on .. it will have 3 leds lit up .. which is memory and will give a long beep .. over and over ..

another time i had it boot up and hang at 2 leds .. which is video .. i have reseated the video card .. etc .. i know the video card should be ok ..

originally i thought my motherboard bit the dust .. so i got another sli-dr board .. just to check .. same problem .. when i first connected everything up ..it booted right to the bios .. i loaded optimized defaults and BAM .. same thing .. i rebooted and the monitor just goes black .. u know what i mean .. like when u shut the pc off but leave the monitor on .. then if i power down .. and try to repower back on .. 3 leds with that long beep over and over .. it really sucks and is driving me mad .. im having pc withdrawal ... i dont have any other memory to swap in ..

well if u guys have looked at my old thread .. basically my system was running all fine and dandy lol .. when i switched from 2x512mb of gskill le's to 2x1gb crucial ballistix .. all i did was swap them in .. just changed the timing to 3-3-3-8 .. the voltage was at 2.9 .. no problems .. system ran great for 2-3 weeks .. then my system crashed .. always has happened from time to time with windows for some reason .. so as my system reboots .. i boot into the bios ..

Hello,

I have a stange problem, since few days my pc has been acting weird, not stable, reboots, bsods, mostly I could solve it by using other memory, single channel, bh-5 dual channel. But now it crashes in windows, just with the start up sound, and it hangs there, so I turn off power.

Hardware specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon64 3500+ venice
Board: DFI LP NF4 SLI-DR rev a3 I believe
Mem: -Gskill TCCD 2x512mb PC4400 LE
-Corsair xms3500 v1.1 bh-5 2x256mb
-Samsung 512mb pc2700 TCB3

I have used bios 510, 623 and 702 but its not helping me.

I have same problem with all the memory, at first it would work with the bh-5 or the samsung, couldnt go higher than 210mhz 2-2-2-5 with the bh-5 (not good at all, but it was stable).

They all pass memtest86. So theres no problem with the memory itself of the ram timings. (I think)

Ram Timings:
Vddr: 2.7v - 2.9v
200mhz 1:1
CPC: enable
Tcl: 2.5
Trcd: 3
Tras: 6
Trp: 3
Trc: 9 when not stable 12-16
Trfc: 14 when not stable 16-17
Trrd: 2
Twr: 2
Twrt: 2
Trwt: 2
Tref: 4708 (166MHz 1.95us) or 3072
Twcl: 1

Bank int.: Enable
Skew control: increase skew, but set at 0
Drive strength: 7
Data strength: auto
Max. Async: 7-8ns
Read Preamble: 5ns
Idle Cycle: AUTO but when stable I use 32
Dyn. Counter: Enable
R/W Bypass: 16x
Bypass Max: 7x
32Bit Gran.: Disable(4 bursts)

Hi All,

I hope someone can help me, not sure what info you require, but here goes.
Basically I bought a DFI lan party nf4 ut Ultra mobo with an amd64 3000+ chip. Installed and all worked ok until I installed any antivirus. It works but when I shutdown it bluescreens and restarts. If I don't have the antivirus it works fine.
I have the firewall and active armour running, the bios is set to stock standard. I have tried with the firewall etc uninstalled and the antivirus and zonealarm running. Same deal with the bluescreens and shutdown. I am using the nvidia Lan port and not the marvel at the moment.
I've read through various posts and tried different things with regards to the firewall and still no joy.

Any advice and help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Try the 510 and 623 series BIOS. 510 works best for me now sure which revision of it is best for your memory but the orange slots are the best to use for overclocking. Give it a try man. Be patient with it...it takes some time...it took me awhile to find the right BIOS believe me I was sick of screwing with it too...I can't tell you how many times I yelled and screwed and sat on default clocks for awhile LoL.

Hello guys, I just bought this board yesterday with a BFG 7800 gt oc, and I've been having problems, my complete setup is:

DFI NF4 UT SLI-D
X2 4400+ [Stock speeds on everything except video obviously]
2x512 OCZ EL Gold PC4400 [2.5-4-4-8-2t]
WD Raptor, Maxtor sata, Maxtor ide
PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 510 Deluxe
BIOS: N4D623-3

the only problem so far is I've been getting "machine_check_exception" BSOD's every now and then, I read somewhere to keep the NB fan on at all times so I set it to full > 25c and now I just also set the nb volt to 1.7V

I haven't been able to find many things about this particular error with this board but I would be greatful if you guys can help, thanks.

You shouldn't have to change the Chipset voltage at all...I have never changed mine with any clocks and I have had no problems. And it might be the BIOS you are using...test others...I had a lot of trouble just trying to find a BIOS that would allow me to even get stock stable or even an overclock.

Unlike most of you my board has no problems at all posting but when I try to use the Boot From CD method to get my O/S to install the board just shuts down. It doesn't restart, it just shuts down. The thing is very confusing to me because it doesn't seem like theres anything wrong. On The Debug area, the light all the way to the left stays red until it reaches the point of booting of a CD, then it shuts off.

I am having problems which I do not know what is causing it... I think I may have a defected motherboard. From time to time when I boot and load into windows it will tell me one of my video cards has been removed from my SLI...and other times when I go to check it it will say Video Cards need to be of a 4x Bandwidth speed or greater before enabling SLI. Now my problem right now is that I am having freezing issues and BSOD when installing any video drivers at all. I just did a clean install of Windows XP and went to install v78.01 and BSOD...after the reboot I got BSOD when it tried to load to desktop. I was running fine for awhile and I cannot seem to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. Also I did go back to stock clocks on everything as well an went back to Air-Cooling.

EDIT: Installed new Beta BIOS by BigToe 710-BTA no BSOD but I will continue to test on and see if it tells me one of my video cards has been removed. I have heard that some people were having problems with the PCI-e slots...the Top one mainly but its the bottom one I am having an issue with.

EDIT...AGAIN: Well After all of that the second video card will not start..says no resources left for it...WTF! Maybe I got a bad install of XP...It was giving me Memory errors might have not installed right...FORMAT again and will retry.

Does anyone know what "DRAM response time" setting in bios does and if it has any impact on performance?

I can't get windows to load when i set this setting to "fastest" , "fast" seems fine but i wonder if "normal" gives more stability.

Anyone?

Ok I am having a really weird issue and it is only when I am using one video card. The 6800GT OC is installed into the top PCIe slot and when I run a JAVA Application like Azureus I will get a weird Screen flash where everything looks overlayed in 640x480 mode or I will have serious system hangs with PC Speaker Beeps. What could be causing this...also a program like LimeWire also for example will make my PC hang and lock up completely. Why does my PC hate JAVA?

Now when I was running Dual 6800GT OC I did not have this problem. I am going to try the bottom PCIe slot when I get home and switch the jumpers and test it then. I can not seem to find anything on this issue. I am thinking I have a defective motherboard. And with any BIOS it does this as well.

Is official just get the newest one from DFI's website.

For BETA BIOS get bigtoes 702-2BTA BIOS.

I dare don't post this over at the DFI forums but has anyone lost their cpu and harddrive due while running a DFI ultra/SLI board?

I ask this because I finished putting together my new system in sig over last weekend. All was great and running smoothly with my Opty running at 10x300 without a hiccup. I decided to prime it and after 45min or so the system completely shut down and never to booted again. I was monitoring my temps and never reached 40c with 1.52v going thur my Opty. The board powered up a few times but never posted. Cleared CMOS pulled battery and still no boot. After around the 10th time the board refused to power.

So I RMA my DFI Ultra and get another in today. Reinstalled everything, board powered up but won't post as the 4 red lights show during debug. I pull out my Opty and install 3700+ and board now post but stuck on DFI post screen. Disconnected all drives and board finally post and able to get into bios. Set up bios and then shutdown. Plugged in WD Raptor and board refuses to recognize the drive. Yes SATA is enabled.

So end of story tried the drive in my friends MSI Neo and also does not recognize drive. I have a new OCZ 520SLI and my voltages during the crash were around as follows.

+3.3=3.32v
+5= 5.11v
+12= +12.41v

Would like to know if the 12v line caused this or the mobo. I've RMA'd the board and can do the same for the Raptor but I loose my 3gig Opty as I removed the IHS. :(

Hello Friends,

First that everything thank you to read this topic.

The reason for the which I write it is because for a time my DFI doesn't want to accept 2 x 512 MB of OCZ Rev2.

When I put one alone, the system works perfect but when I add the second module the system non boot and 2 LEDS always lights.

I have attempted in the yellow and oranges slots but the result is the same one.

This is the configuration:

- AMD 3700+ SD (Stock)

- DFI Ultra-D (6.23-3)

- OCZ Plt Rev2 (512mb x 2)

- MSI 6600GT

- Fortron BlueStorm (AX500-A)

Please help me to solve this problem.

Thank you for all the collaboration that you can offer me.

Until soon.

Hi .

last 2 days i found this bug , but not the fix yet.

When i use the 5v jumper [with 24pin psu enermax 600 , is ok all rails] my mobo dont give vdimm higher than 3.25 . and when boots sets 2.54vdimm :O and after 2-3 seconds reboots again and gives 3.25 [from 3.4 i set ]

ill try clrcmos , several bioses , nothing . The mobo is stuck at 3.25 when i use the 5v jumper . with 3.3 jumper all works fine 3.1 i set 3.1 gives , 2.9 set 2.9 gives ect ect ect/.

What the h*ll is going here?

Powersupply is ThermalTake Silent Purepower W0009R 420W PS
(20-pin)
problem: i am having bad stability issues

seems to lockup randomly within winxp pro sp2
was locking up before installation of winxp, getting it to get through the installation without freezing was a trying process
im PRETTY SURE that ive got the dram settings in BIOS configured correctly
oddly i cant get the ram to run at CAS 3.0 only 2.5
i have updated to the newest bios 623-3
ive tried tweaking the RAM numerous ways and although it seems a little more stable
it does still crash when on stock/loose settings just as often as anything else
oh yeah, i have run super pi 1M at just under 3.0ghz numerous times
it does seem to lock up more when im browsing multiple windows of multi-tabbed firefox, but perhaps thats just because its how i use my computer most often

my thoughts:
1)possibly power supply, ive just noticed that it says 18A on the +12v
is this too low?
ive already ordered an OCZ ModStream ATX 2.01 520W Power Supply
thinking the PSU was the likely culprit
2)memory incompatibility

any thoughts suggestions?

Hello, you must set the vcore to anything other than "AUTO", then save & exit. After the reboot all volts above 3.2 will be available. I know thats not the most logical thing, but thats the deal.

*NOTE* You do not have to increase beyond stock volts, just 1.4v instead of AUTO.

EDIT: I now see it says on bottom of your post that you adjusted manually, sorry. I have used the same board with the 5v rail with CH-5's and BH-5's, and all 6-23 and 704-2bta BIOS, with never a problem. You should contact DFI's tech support or visit DFI-Street.com

if your board is unstable:

if your using the 5v rail feed for vdimm increase vdimm, this will stabilize the vdimm output

I'm sorry if this was said already (huge thread), but this make it sound like JP17 will stableize any voltage. When its actually harmful to use the 5v rail for under 3.3v. It forces the regulator to covert it back down and causes alot of heat and stress. I'm sure you know this, but for a newb reading that, maybe it could be more clear? Thanks.

With two optical drives on one 80-pin cable, things were VERY bad. With the hard drive running SATA, I was able to put each CD-ROM drive on its own cable/channel and that fixed the issue.

What i mean by VERY BAD is: Once windows was installed, anytime I tried to use the CD or DVD to install an ap or game, I was shown the BSOD. When the system recovered, it was the general hardware fault that says it could be ANYTHING. Is that the standard fix. Run the CD drives alone on their own 40-pin cable? Becuase every now and then, I get a BSOD during an install. The last was with Quake4. Big proggie to install. It bombed the first try, but i got it the second.

I am having DFI NF4 Ultra. One of the giga ethernet port isn't working. I believe it's a marvell chip. windows xp can't find it's driver. I have used system driver from the DFI web site.

Any clue?

DFI 4 Leds Of Death -weird boot

my systems spec :
dfi ultra-d sli
amd64 sd3700
tr-XP90C
ocz el1024mb pc3200 rev2 TCCD
asus7800gtx
80g hd
enermax noisetaker 600w

every time pc switch on 4 leds light up,all fan ruuning including gfx fan

To boot:
still with 4 leds lights on mobo quickly switch off psu before 4 leds goes OFF turn it back on then pc will boot up without any problem even overclock to 2.9ghz

any idea what is the problem hereSomething simmilar (but haven't found the way to make it work):

Yesterday I set up my new rig:
DFI nf4 SLI-DR
Venice E6 3000+
OCZ4001024ELDCGE-K
Gainward 7800GT nonGS / Samsung 173P TFT
OCZ PowerStream 420W
Raptor 36Gb / Caviar 200Gb / Barracuda IV 80Gb
Pioneer 110 DVD-R / Liteon DVD / Floppy
Lian-Li PC-61

I'm sure I did everything correct (I mounted and unmounted it 3 times, I worked for RMA for 2 years, mounted like 40-50 Pcs, so I know what I'm doing, but this was my first PCI-E/24pin/DualChannel/939 MoBo). Plugged the 24pin and 4pin conector, but not the molex/FDD type ones (as I'm not running SLI I've read those are not required). But it won't boot at all. All the fans start, the lights are lit, the HDDs start, the DVDs open/close but none on screen, it turns off after 10 seconds. No VGA BIOS, no beep errors, no mobo BIOS, nothing. Nada.

The 4 leds are lit green (as seen in the manual, that means everything is detected, or nothing? never sure when in manuals they draw lights xD). The buzzer won't make a sound (I changed the jumper to "On"), no beep without VGA/DIMMS. The fans work, the PSU works, and the lights on the motherboard are lit. Again, I'm sure I've set up everything right. I've tried with only proc mem and vga with everything else unplugged and nothing. What is strange is there is no beep error if I unplug the VGA and/or the dimms.

Possibilities:

1. Defective motherboard: Any issue with dead DFI nf4 motherboards out of the box?
2. The monitor doesn't recongize correctly the signal: Don't think so, because it has full DVI-D pins, and doesn't show the usual "Not signal on cable".
3. It is making a shortcircuit with the case: I didn't put any separator between the mobo and the case bolts, but I've never put and never had any problem. Should I put that? Anyway, there is no short because everything seems to work alright: lights, fans, leds, drives, etc.

Doubts:

1. The 7800GT current connector must be connected to TWO molex?
2. I must connect the 24pin AND the 12V 4pin right?
3. The buzzer should beep when no VGA with 1 long and 3 short beeps, and continued long beeps when no DIMMs right? I can't see any info regarding this in the Features/User's Manual but those are the standard.
4. The 5V/12V molex and FDD should be plugged ONLY when two VGAs are present? I didn't plug them.
5. What the lit leds mean?, because without that or speaker errors I'm totally lost to define the problem. From the post I'm quoting, I assume the lights should turn OFF when everything OK, right? All of them stay lit in my mobo.
6. Should I commit suicide?

Tonight I'll re-do everything from scratch again. I spent like 4 hours yesterday :slap: but never had too many problems (well yes, with a dead Abit KV8-Pro, so my fears :( it showed error numbers not listed in the manual, so I RMAed it and got a new one, without errors, but that's another story :p: )

Thanks in advance

/edit1: changed "The 4 leds are lit" for "The 4 leds are lit green"

Well another one of my DFI bites the dust today. Counting 3 now. Glad I had backup handy and should be up and running tomorrow once I find time to replace mobo. Time for RMA again.... -_-;
I really need to look for alternative mobo than DFI.

Firstly, the current recommendation... scratch that, requirement is for all the power connectors to be connected REGARDLESS of whether you're running dual vid cards - yes the manual says otherwise, but this is the experts at DFI-street preach for maximum stability... however without the additional connectors plugged in it should still boot.

If all 4 DEBUG LEDs are lit it means your CPU has not even been detected so the startup procedure cannot continue from there. IMO either your CPU is a deadfish or your motherboard is broke'd. Good luck :)

Well mobo, processor, memory and VGA are new so I hope pluging 4 current conectors and rebuilding all from scratch solves the problem. I will try some build advices I read at dfi-street.

I want to play with my new rig ASAP

//EDIT: I'm going to plug my venice in a friend's board and his proccesor in my SLI-DR to know which one is broken

mursaat you NEED to place those spacers unless you want fireworks. Try it and see if it helps.

2. yes you nede to connect in a 24pin and the 12v for the cpu

6. its an option ..

If the welding contacts on the back of the mobo are touching the metal surface on the back plate of the chassis you probably have a shortcircuit there. As said before, use the spacers. Remeber of the eletrostatic energy, always touch a grounded device before working with electronic components, well, if you worked at RMA you should know that already.

I recently got two ultra-D's. One from the usa, one here from holland..

The board from the USA has a dead nvidia lan port.. drivers load fine, it shows as connected.. and it seems to transmit, yet 0 packets are received.

The board i got in holland has dead pci-e slots, my gtx refuses to work while it does work in the other board with every other component the same. . (actually i only tested the first pci-e 16x slot.. i should try the other one i guess)
The nv lan port works on this board, so i know that my network is fine.

I used the same windows install to test both boards so it's not a software problem and both boards were flashed to the latest official bios. (the FX60 official bios, i think)

Also i noticed the USA board has expoxy on the nf4 chip to prevent SLI modding, while the dutch one doesn't have this... lol is SLI modding an american thing? ;)

Anyways i'm not sure what to do at this point..
Currently i'm running the board with the dead nvlan as my desktop (using the marvell.. although my pci bus is saturated as it is grr :( )
The board with the dead pci-e slots is going to be used as a server ..obviously..

I'm quite disappointed to say the least.. maybe someone can help?

EDIT: Tried my GTX in the second PCI-e slot, it works... that's a relief, i'm happy with that
Now if only i could get the nvlan working... maybe i should examine the boards close up near the vitesse chip, maybe there are visual defects that i can fix.. wish me luck, i'm getting hopeful again ;)

Actually i did, but i currently have the ATA controller and the second SATA controller disabled. Still no go..
How would i remove this IDE driver? I don't see it in the removal options (add/remove software --> nvidia drivers)
Aren't the drivers required for Nvidia RAID though? (mediashield manual claims they are)

What could be my problem? My situation is this: I have a San Diego 3700+, without problems i can do 280x10 (tested with TCCD pair). I have a 2x512MB mushkin redline. It happens a strange problem related with Vdimm. The problem is when i set 3.7V in bios, whatever frequency, whatever timmings if i set 3.7V (with +0.02 Enable or more than 3.7V) the system hangs. For example, i can boot at 270Mhz 2-2-2 with 3.6+0.02V but Windows is very unstable, i changed almost all timmings and the problem persist. The problem comes when i set 3.7V or more.

I read Tony article, but i have a different problem, if i set 1.475V for Vcore i can enter to windows, but the system is unstable too because i neet 1.52V for full stability with my San Diego (tested with TCCD).

Vcore = 1.520V (Diego 270Mhx10 stable) + Vdimm = 3.7V --> No Windows load, then if i press reset button there is not post
Vcore = 1.475 (Diego 270x10 unstable) + Vdimm = 3.7V --> Windows load, but is very unstable

I tested many bios, 510-1,2,3 , 623-1,2,3 even 704-2bt and nothing change. I've put 1.5V for ldt and 1.8V for chipset and nothing. Why with 3.7V or more my system fails? Please guys, can you help me? Any input is appreciated

i have a trouble !
When I connect my IDE HDD to this mobo the boot process tooks awfully long time and seems to never end :(
And what`s more surprising - I have same thing with my old rig. It occured after I used it with DFI mobo. Once I had no troubles booting with it on DFI and it worked fine - but not anymore. I doubt it`s HDD`s fault. So could somebody help me out here ?

I had a simlar problem caused by the network showing low connectivity, fixed that with a network wizard session. Then the hanging on boot up and down stopped, but not until I got the network sorted.

I have a problem with my NF4 Ultra-D:
When I set the vdimm jumper to 4V position , then 5-6 second after I push the power on button , the system shutdown , or start to beep.

What could be the problem?

Hi guys; I've something that's really looks like a motherboard issue for me: boot only 1 time out of 10 (optimistic estimation :D ); and when suceeded it freezes shortly after. This problem appeared after about 3 months of fine use.
I've tested 5 RAM modules individually, 2 different CPUs, 2 different EEPROMs (with 2 different bios), 2 different PSUs (individually and also at the same time in different connectors) and the problem is still here... I've also made several clear CMOS (2 of those for 8~9hours);

What do you think about that?

Today I noticed something strange the three fans that are softwrae cotrolled ( Chipset, CPU, PWM) work fine in BIOS and up til windows in windows they stop.
I checked Smartgaurdian, changed the settings to software controlled mode and set the slider to max, no response.

Chnged it back to automatic mode, nothing happens.

BIOS settings for the fans,
CPU 25°OFF 40°Full
CHIPSET 25°off 30°full
PWM 25°off 30°full

Any ideas?

Hi. I wish anyone could help me out with this one!
I have the following problem. When i boot my PC EVERYTHING works fine for 20 minutes to 3 hours max and then for some reason my usb ports stop receiving power. I have the LanParty UT nf4 SLI-D and AMD A64 X2 4400+ and working them at default settings for the moment untill i have this sorted out! I have also installed all the latest patches for nForce4 and Latest official bios from dfi.com (406 i think). Could i have done something wrong? I have also installed both the hotfix and amd last driver for my xp sp2 and i have NOT installed the usb 2.0 drivers provided by dfi inside the installation cd.

Another thing... As for the nForce4 drivers i have tried both 6.66E from dfi and 6.70 from nvidia.com (which is the one i have at the moment!). Both have the same problem.

I sent an e-mail to dfi and they replied that since the usb ports work when i reboot means that the OS is corrupted. They say that my memories are somewhat incompatible with the mobo and therefore i have problems. I was also notified that i need a higher PSU than the 450w i had. What can i say. I went and passed back the PSU and got another one at 560W and i am waiting to get a GEIL dual memory set. Hope that is the problem. The main problem is the reinstalling of windows but since i did 3 dayz ago i can do it again! I will wait and see. Here is the reply:

I suspect that the USB ports are no longer working due to corruption in the OS enviroment. You can confirm this by disconnecting all the PS2 and USB devices from the system except for 1 x USB keyboard. Reboot the system and note if you can access the MB BIOS using the keyboard. If so then the ports are functioning and the OS is likely in need of fresh install. If the OS turns out to be corrupted then you should really consider getting some better memory. Transcend memory is not the best choice for this board and could be having trouble with the strict memory timing requirements present in the BIOS. Memory from a brand such as OCZ, Geil, G-Skill or Mushkin would be better choices. In summary it is likely that the use of Transcend memory has corrupted the OS to the point where you are now. Lastly a 450 watt PSU is not really sufficient for this config. I would recommend switching to a PSU in the 600 watt range.

I am just sending this just to add that people talking of memory incompabilities are right for the moment. I will try with the new memory set and write back my impressions. This is for the MOBO DFI LP UT NF4 SLI-D.

Oh no! Why didn't you modify the heatsink instead? :slapass:
I'm no pro or anything, but the metal arms left from the pci slot, are they supposed to be touching or not? That could be causing an issue possibly.
You could try putting a partition between them.
(Like I said, I'm not in the know, just asking questions myself).

haven't seen you posting for a while
they are on thermal pads, i have a 120mm fan over mine and with the 165 opty up to the 175 at over 3 ghz it pumps up the heat, mine sits around 45 celsius, i have sold my 175 opty and got a 165 cbb1e 0609 fpbw currently at 3107mhz, prime fails straight away but i have been using for days and not crashed once only at 1.45v , got 131,000 aquamark, but not absolutely stable in 3dmark unless i lower, best thing is just get a big fan over them, i went in bios on pc health where it shows temp and just moved fan about till lowest pwm temp showed, its at an angle of about 40 degrees if you rest it on your sli cards

ok im having a weird problem, whenever i loosen up the ram timings i cant boot into windows.. the computer will just restart itself before the windows loading screen and reboot, either that or it hangs on a blank screen right before the windows loading screen would appear... this is confusing

all i did was loosen the timings from 2-2-2-5 to 2.5-4-3-7

edit: i had no idea there were the extra 2 power connecters on the board, they weren't connected when i got it. so i plugged those in, but it made no difference...

I find 95% of my CPU clocking issues are tied down to memory timings. You might want to play with them...

Here's a weird one:

When I boot up, my system always gets to the Windows loading screen. From there, one of three things happens, and I have no idea why or when a given option will occur.

1) Immediately boots into Windows, no problems.

2) Very long delay in booting into Windows, like 3-5 minutes. The progress bar keeps moving at all times, and there's audible drive thrashing. Once into Windows, system operates normally.

3) Very rarely, the progress bar will stop and the system hangs. Even more rarely -- I think this has happened maybe twice -- I get a bluescreen. A simple reset leads to #1 or #2 (and a normal WinXP session) after getting past the "Windows failed to load properly last time" notification.

Basically, this is just an annoyance. I can always boot up, it's just that I can't tell how long it will take.

Background info: Running BT-704-1. This has happened with both an Opteron 146 and a 165, and across two fresh WinXP installs. Running ATITool 0.25 and MBM5.

Can't think of anything else relevant ATM.

Ideas?

I did change the timings, even with no overclock the system wouldn't boot windows. I just gave up on that memory and put my bh-5 in, it runs great 250 2-2-2-5 @ 3.3v

Only one thing to try from me, just check the hdd jumpers are correct. I've had windows take ages to load before and it was the jumpers.
That's about it from me unfortunately.

I didn't think there were any jumpers to change on a SATA drive. Anything on the board itself dealing with that? (Other than the BIOS boot settings).

alrighty ive been having trouble pushy im opty 148. ive got the ultra-d board. i just got done flashing it with the newest bios from DFI's website. and well. im still having trouble.

i cant get past 290fsb.... il admit im using a 2/3 ram divder, so my ram is running at a nice cozzy 200mhz.

of course i have NO IDEA what half the ram timings mean, and if i leave them at default, it will set them to the stock settings for the rams DDR 266 speed, when its really running at DDR400, so no good.

the chip is being cooled with a sycth nija, and im ging it up to 1.525 volts in bios, ive got a nice 620wat PSU...
the chip is prime stable up to 10X290. but wont even get into windows at 9X300. ive got the ldt set at 3x jsut to be sure, and i pump up the ltd and NB volts to. but still no windows post.

if someone could help with my newbness itd be great.

of course i guess my chip could be limted at 2.9ghz and also 290fsb ( its not stable at 273X11 either.)

anyideas?

much thanks

I feel strange posting here... But here it goes:

MY DFI lanaprty ultra-d nf4 was workign fine. I put a new heatsink on cpu, resetting the pc a few times.

problem:
When booting, messege about cmos corruption - defaults will be loaded pops up. System boots fine. Will not boot again after shut down: 4 red lights.

Basicly, with or without the battery: If any setting is changed in bios, system will not boot but hang on the 4 red lights.

remedy: turn off psu, turn on psu, boot with defaults, get in windows -ok to use. repeat.

Tried bios flashing.

ps: The CMOS reloaded settings do not disapear (The preconfig banks) even after all is reset and cleared.

Thanks!

I flashed the proper bios into my DFI Ultra2-M2 and then reset it, waited a minute or two then realized I needed to reset my CMOS.

So I read up on that, and have done it about 5 times. Nothing works. It was booting up before, it was just really unstable. Now I can't get to ANYTHING. What can I do to fix this problem! Thanks!!!

Has anyone ran into Windows Shutdown issues with this board?

When I overclock, Windows will not shutdown properly. It gets to the "Windows is Shutting Down" just fine, its just that the board doesn't shut down. I have to manually shut it off.

Just wondering if someone found a quick/easy fix for that. I tried to troubleshoot it but couldn't figure out what it was... what made it harder was that sometimes when I went back to normal (non overclocking) settings it did not shut down properly once in a while... for months beforehand it never had a problem like that.

Edit: Its Windows XP.

AMD 3700+ San Diego

WD Raptor 150
BFG 7600 GT OC
X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
Floppy

OC @ 2.7, 1:1 RAM Prime stable for 18+ hrs.

The system runs great, but there is an annoying message during post stating that "the boot devices have been changed" and to press F1 to continue or Delete to enter BIOS.
The Raptor is the 1st boot device, and I've changed nothing since OS install (XP Pro.) and every time I look at the BIOS settings, they are unchanged, yet I still get this message. While this wouldn't bother me much, I'm building this for my nephew and would really like to get rid of this issue. FWIW the Raptor also shows up as a removeable device in the taskbar.

I've never seen this behavior before, and the only new parts are a "SATA II Compatible" data cable for the Raptor. Any pointers? Is the OS recognizing the RAptor as a removeable device the issue? Update BIOS?

Whaddaya think, fellas? Thanks!
