Flash to BIOS to 218 (latest beta)
Set the HyperTransport to x4.
Set EVERYTHING on the DRAM Settings page to AUTO and run the following timings manually 2.5-4-7-3. Run Vdimm at 2.9v to 3v.
What I was referring to is that the memory controller is part of the CPU. So when you have memory troubles, it can either be the ram or the cpu.
Okay, I've tried all of that and still get failures on test 8. However, there seem to be less - which I want to verify later. Should I apply more vdimm? When I get hme from work I'll see what slackening the timings achieves.
Should I raise vcore?

You shouldn't need more than 3v, but the DFI needs extra voltage to the RAM (more than other boards). So give it a try.
In order to clear up the errors, I'd try the voltages higher and lower. Also you can try adjusting the memory timings a little at a time. Perhaps 2.5 4-4-8, etc

I'll give it a whirl but won't I ge getting close to the edge here? I don't want to fry my RAM.

I'm having an issue with high HTT. Everything above 285/290 it's unstable and reboots, either by Bios or ClockGen. Got LTD @ 3x, 1.4v HT, 1.8v Chipset, Ram @ 100/133/150/166 (tried all), tested with multi 7, 7.5 and 8 and it's no CPU limit (3200+ able to do 2.63Ghzs Stable), no go above 285HTT +-. Any ideias? =)
It's an Ultra-D btw, Bios 217 and 218 tested.

Can everybody give 3.5V+ to the Vdimm under winxp? Becous everytime I give 3.5 it stops when loging in.. 3.4V works, but non over that.

Prommie will go on CPU this weekend hopefully, Can only afford one waterblock, so thats going on one GC, and an Artic Cooling NV5 on the other - for now!
Lol... Prommy RoX! :slobber:
Nice for the VGA with waterblock, but for the other one, the Leadtek dissy is not more performancer than NV5? ;)

I've managed to run a clean set of tests at 275Mhz FSB, 6xCPU Multi, 3.1 vdimm and 2.5-4-4-10 timings and 4xHTT. There is a downside though. If I raise FSB speed the errors in test 8 return.
My memory is already highly geared voltage-wise. Should I be raising LDT and/or chipset votlages? And if I do, what are "safe" levels to raise them too?

I'd throw an exta .1v to both and see if it helps. Another thing to look at is your CPU voltage. The memory controller is on the CPU so a bump might help there too.

Hi
i have only 1 problem with bios 2.17 and other Betas
C&Q dont work if i set vcore to something else than AUTO.
And if the Vcore is set to Auto i cant use VDIMm Voltage over 3.2Volt.
Also Windows tools like Cristalcpuid cant change Vcore
under Windows if CPU Vcore in Bios is set to something else than AUTO.
Bad for my VX Ram, i can go to DDR533 1.5-2-2-2-7 3.6Volt :slobber:
bat with 3.2 only DDR460 2-3-3-7
Pleas help :help: :bsod:

CPU Voltage is at 1.45v, RAM at 3.1v, LDT at 1.3v and chipset at 1.6v and I'm still generating 100s of errors at 6.5xMulti. CPU bios core temp. is being reported at 51C.
I'm not sure how high these voltages are in O/C terms but the extraordinarily low clock rate I'm having to run the CPU at in order to even try and clear memtest makes me think something's not right.
The gain being achieved per notch on the voltage scale is too small to get anywheere near decent clock rates for the cpu. I'm also seeing that any changes which take reported memory bandwidth over 2400MB/s generate bucketloads of errors.

My system
W3200+
2x512 VX
OCZ Powerstream 520W
The system was running OK at 260 2-2-2-5 prime and 24/7 stable 1550Vcore + 110% and 3.6vdimm from the 5V line.
No problems until two weeks ago. Then, my DFI began refusing to boot. 3 leds on (memory error). I had to try it for several times, until it booted normally. However, as days has passed, it has become more and more difficult to make it boot. The last times I managed to boot it, I have had to try it for several HOURS, trying with safe mode jumer and clear cmos jumer until I got it. When it booted, the system was 100% stable and I could reboot without problems, but when I shutted down the system, the nightmare started once again.
Currently, it seems to be impossible to boot anymore with my mem but I have no problem with a pair of PQI pc3200.
I've tried with several bios (0201, 0217 and 0218) and none of them solves the problem. I'm completely desesperated and planning to buy a pair of OCZ Platinum rev.2 'cause I have no more ideas about how to get the system boot with my config.
The system doesn't boot with only one module of the VX :stick: pair on any of the banks; the result is the same. I've tried it after clearing cmos, booting the PQI pair, and switching off the psu.
Has anyone experienced something like this?
any idea?
I bought the VX mem just for this mobo and now I'm starting to think about selling them :(

Sounds like a capacitor breaking down to me.
Is this for me? if so, what should I do? 'cause if it's a capacitor, the situation could become even worse and it could stop working with other memories too, couldn't it? Btw I don't understand why it boots everytime with the pqi pack and it doesn't boot with the vx ones even at stock speeds and voltage. With the VX ones at 2 3 3 8 at 2.6V it should boot

Well, not really a problem since i believe im one of the 2.5 people that booted and everything went just peachy from the get go but i didnt think this deserved its own thread. Im using bios 2/17 with some good ole twinmos BH5 and a crappy winny 3000+ thatll brick wall at 275x9.
But anywho, i have an ultra-d and of course, modded it (pencil #2 works just fine, by the way).
Shows up as SLI in the bios, nvidia drivers says i can enable SLI, i do so, asks me to reboot, that i do. Then, when i try to run a game, any game, it does try to run in alternate frame rendering, but only 1 graphic card is at the job, so i get a flicker between image/gray screen.
Has anyone modded an ultra-d and actually used it to do SLI without a bridge?
Toms hardware did it http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041123/sli-performance-30.html (bottom of the page) but i cannot for the life of me get it to work.
Sounds like a driver issue but i tried from 66.74 to 71.84 71.90 and still no luck.

My dfi just took up smoking. I was playing some doom3 thinking how much i was liking the new x800xl. Then there was a small pop noise and the screen froze, i figgured it was just a sound effect when the game crashed. I was wrong. I powered the pc off, then back on and got a good whiff of electrical smoke and flipped the power switch on the psu as fast as possible. Some portion of the cpu voltage circuit decided to take up smoking. I just hope it didn't damage my chip... If it did, there will be another DFI in the fs section after i get the replacement board. :upset: :flame:

fyi guys, I tried the 2-18 bios and everytime I went high fsb's my raptor got corrupted on the install, using bios 2-17 seems to have fixed that issue, no matter how high I oc my fsb now, it doesn't corrupt. 2-17 seems more robust for high fsb oc's, 250-300+ range I am talking about now.

I have got what is described in my signature for about a 1.5 months.
Last weekend a moved the rig for a small lan and i was moving it very careful.
When i arrive my RAID0 Stripe was faulty Posting and flashing read.
Turned off the system for a while and then it was working again.
Then things like this happens:
*lock ups in windows.
*hal.dll Renames to -> HAL.DLL (Wont boot)
*ITE Smart Guardian gets error 48 going into windows (Seems SP2 Solved this)
*Games freezing
*Reboots at logging into windows
*Blue screen at desktop.
*Rundll32.dll failure when clicking "automatic updates" tab in Properties for "my computer" (Seems SP2 Solved this
*NVraid service US crasheh upon login (Seems SP2 Solved this)
*Nvidia RAID0 Flashing red, error. It is always the same drive that is missing. (WD360GD-00FNA0)
Tested ALL 5 drives with Ultimate bootcd and datalife guard "full media scan"
No errors.
This is Stable at P95 for 41 Hours, SuperPI stable 1M, Memtest 86+ v1.51 tes #5 for 25 loops.
I have reinstalled windows XP Pro a couple of times but wont help.
Got service pack 2 and any other critical update.
Norton Internet security 2005 Full update.
Nforce 6.39
Forceware 71.90
Could it be the SATA port for that specific drive?
I switched the shielded +12v molex connected to the on board molex. I placed this connector to have it together with the other shielded +12v that is going for my second 6800 ultra.
The PSU got 2 +12v rails, so is it possible that im now somehow drawing most of the power from one of the rails/weakest one?

Interesting, since when it first happened the computer wasnt FROZEN cold but cold and i have constructed this molex line myself so perhaps it could be something going on there?
Metal expands during warmup so that very little might have changed things.
Nice tips

Very nice and neat. I blamed the molex connectors but it seemd that my 36G Raptor Drives have weak sockets that are quite thin and loose compared to my other 5 drives in my Lian-Li PC-76. I wonder if they make slightly oversized molex connectors?

The front audio connector (J4) on the Karajan Audio Module has 10 pins. The shipped defaults have jumpers on pins 1 & 2 and 5 & 6. Should I leave these as is? Do I need to set other/more jumpers? Seems like I would have to also (or instead?) connect some of the wires from the front jacks to this J4 connector. But I am not sure which wires and whether I have to remove the jumpers? I guess that I am just generally confused about this J4 connector. What tod I do?
I am using the Antec SuperLanboy case. So I have 2 USB and 2 sound-related jacks on the front.
The CD-in connector on the Karajan Audio Module allows for one CD to be plugged in to the module. What do I do if I have 2 CDs and a DVD in my system. How do I get sound to work for the others?

CBBID 0105 DPDW, and you guessed it's a crappola cpu sadly, best I can do is 237 X11 or sub multi, but as soon as I reach the magical 2.61 or there abouts. Irrelevant of cpu voltage or how relax the mem is set.
It just won't do Super Pi 32M.

Anyone got problem with internal sound? I know it sometimes is board specific but it is driving me nutz. Thing makes all hdd drive noise heard through speaker, some fan sound escapes through too. I've seen some other mobos doing similar thing (some msi some giga) while some just don't (again some giga and some msi).
I guess I could look for used audigy 2 but considering additional airflow blocker that would be I would prefer not to.

About the noise your integrated card is picking up is more situation specific rather than board specific.
When you install an amplifier in your car you draw the signal cables on one side and powercable on the other side. Otherwise you end up picking up the noises from you generators RPM. commonly heard when you push the throttle as a "bizzing".
I installed a musketeer and then i had to mount cables from the soundcard to the front and from the front back to the soundcard.
I didnt realize that those cables installed became a noise antenna.
To save both airflow, noise and framerate, buy you´r self an audigy 2NX (external USB 2.0). I did and im happy =)

¿Usb will take more cpu than an internal sound card, won't it?
Same for karajan audio.
An Audigy class sound card will make it a lot better in my opinion.
I know 3dMark is not the best thing to measure that. Btwm my system perfoms better with an awfull audigy 1 than with karajan sound in 3dmark03 sound tests. It also supports 60 sound test, the other one, does not. It may not be a big deal but I would spend some extra dollars (euros here) in the sound card since it's makes not any difference on the total amount spent on this kind of system. You coluld spend those $$ on the sound card and me, spend them on some english lessons. lol

When I asked few people on our Czech Overclocking 4um, I was said, that so high HTT like 340 etc. were achieved with IDE drives, but not if used SATA drives (which I have).

Good question. It may be answered somewhere before but after that so many posts and oppinions, I'm a bit confused.
I'm just about to order some Plat rev.2 since the dfi now refuses to boot with the VX ones :( Although after booting, they are 100% stable at 260x10 1:1 2-2-2-5, it's nearly impossible too boot with them, no matter what latency, voltage or frequency. Anyway, I have 2 sata disks and if I will not be able to reach 290-300 htt, I won't get current performance since TCCD latencies will be looser and that's no good

The 260Htt cap was with SATA 1 and 2 was a limitation of the NF3 chipset.

1) Not much cabling has changed if at all other than mobo on all above scenario. It is board specific. Some does better some doesn't.
2) Hmmm I thought USB sound uses up to 20% of CPU? Not something I am looking forward to.

With "the other one" I was refering to the onboard audio. During my testing with karajan audio, 3dmark03 skipped the 60 sound test. The response was "Not Supported". With the audigy I had no problem.

anything more than 3.3V causes errors in memtest.
tested mems at SC and first takes 3.5V with no problems
but anotherone starts making errors @ 3.4V
i can do only 237MHz in memtest without errors and it blows cause to windows i have to lover it down to 225MHz to get it stable
any fixes for this issue?

Hey Bugs, you might want to remove the heatspreaders off that HyperX. I did and got 4 extra MHz... the heatspreaders really suck, I don't understand why they put them on there...
Thanks for the tip, just didnt remove them cause lifetime warranty would be lost.
Anyway, maybe I´ll remove them and maybe I´ll could get 300 MHz @ 3,75V.
3,83V on mem didn´t help, so I feel mem is maximized, but with good timmings.
I´m playing with timmings atm, trying much combinations, my last system was nF2, on a NF7 so all this timmings to configure are new stuff to me :)
ppl with 2x256 bh5 feel free to post your timmings.

Ny vx did it too, but after some burn-in, now they are stable until 3.5v, and they gave the best @3.8v, but @3.8 they give errors also @200 mhz!

Hi, I'm experiencing some problems when Ocing my system, it would be great if anyone of you could help me out. :)
The problems occur when i am going over approx. 2600mhz on my 3000+ Sometimes the sound card just "disappears", its gone from divice manager and will not "cooperate" with me. It sometimes work as high as 2640mhz and sometimes not, beyond 2640mhz it has never worked.
A similar problem occurs with my graphics card when I go above, somewhere in between, 2640mhz-2680mhz, it will sypply a picture, but it disappears from the system, and acts just like when no graphic drivers are installed. My cpu is stable up to above 2.7ghz so i dont think thats the problem. To begin with i suspected the pci-e bus lock to malfunction, but when I tried 333x8 the same problems I had on 296x9 appeared at the same cpu speed. I am currently running at 2629mhz as this appears to be ok, exept from my sound card (btw. the one supplied with the mobo, not a pci card) somtimes making trouble..
I find this problems odd, and would be extremely happy if someone helped me out. I apologice if this already has been solved somewhere in this tread, but im not keen on reading through all of it. Is it just my cpu thats not stabble? although it does not fail in occt or prime95. And btw my ram is at a 100divider , so i dont think the problem is my memory.

It sounds to me like a stability problem. If you are having CPU errors this can cause many strange things to happen. I have 3 CPU's and not one willl run past 2560mhz without becoming unstable.
Use memtest86+ (In BIOS on the DFI NF4) to test your CPU, memory controller and, memory for errors. Then use prime95 torture test or a similar stabilty program to see if your system is workable at those speeds.

I'm stable at this speed, but if i low the multi to 9 and the same setings the system get's unstable, if i low to 8 i cant boot to windows. I've tried memory dividers, 1T, 2T, HT3, HT2, PCI-Express 102 and Raptor in Sata3. When the PCI-Express it's 101 or 100, i lost my hard drive. Sometimes i lost conection with the usb chill control.
I think this sample have problems with PCI lock, i'm stuck at 28x HTT, 290 no go, with low HT, mem dividers, 1T, 2T. :(

I've been having a lot of trouble with my HyperX, so today I flashed to the 3/10 bios. Right after I cleared the CMOS I was able to boot fine with my HyperX. I hit load optimized defaults, rebooted, and it gives me 2 long beeps, 1 short then boots again. (With the 1/25 bios it would give me repeated long beeps, and with 2/18 I got 2 long beeps, then 1 short and it booted, but I couldn't start windows. All this is solved by setting ram to 9:10 divider.) I cleared CMOS, and it works fine until I change my settings again.
So anyways, I did some experimenting, and found out that I can boot fine with the ram at 1:1 until I hit save and exit. Doesn't matter if I have changed nothing, if I go into the bios and the first thing I do is hit save and exit, then I get the two long beeps and 1 short, then boot. I can, however, go into bios, and hit exit without saving and it will still boot. Once again 9:10 fixes all.
The ram is good, it was in my old nforce2 comp and was error free in memtest .
Any ideas about this?

So my DFI seems to be dead because of bios and I wonder if it's possible to hotflash it with a S754 MSI K8N NEO board? I dont know if they use the same chip but I think they do. There is some silver thing on the neo chip and just plain text on the DFI but it's like the DFI NF2 board, I had the same chip on the NF2 board as on the NF4 board and the same chip on NF2 as the NEO so it should work or am I wrong?

This may just be a difference in reporting, but..................
See this: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=55942&page=1&pp=25
It has info on a voltage issue I "discovered". Basically, use the 103% Special VID, 110% Special VID, etc and leave the regular VID at 1.45 or less. I think it's a Cool n Quiet issue and seems to show up more often on newer CPU's.

Here's another Ultra to SLI modding tip:
Watch for the felt square on the bottom of the stock chipset fan. When the HSF is in place, the felt rides right on top of the bridge area. So if you use pencil or conductive grease it can be smeared and fail. If you use non permanent connection method (like I did using grease), you'll want to cover the closed bridge with a small peice of tape or something:)
After the mod, watch for the boot up screen to say "Nforce4 SLI" versus "Nforce4 Ultra". That's all there is to it.
One final word, watch out for the new Ultra chipsets that have the bridge covered by enamel and not easily re-connected. Nvidia has been doing this for a few weeks now and these boards will be hitting the channel soon.
They've already hit retail stores... see attached pic (SLI version).
Makes me wonder what the two covered jumpers are for (they are open on all the versions of the chipset I've looked at, NF4, NF4 Ultra, NF4 SLI)... a yet unknown perf capability?

Anyone knows where are the voltage-reading-points for Vcore/NB and Vdimm?
Mike, if you look at a pic of an older NF4 chipset, there are two empty pad set positions.
Here's a pic of an older Ultra chipset to show you the pads now covered over:

just an FYI for those curious, I just did the SLI mod on my Ultra. I just recieved it 5 days ago.
I had no reason to do the mod other than to have it say Nforce4 SLI at startup...but what the hell...the mod was there and doable...so I couldn't resist. :D

The pic on the above Anandtech link and the one right above my post are both excellent pics of where to do the mod.
There are two horizontally oriented resistors to the right of the NF4 core. The set of pads that are oriented vertically above the top resistor is the one you need to pencil/solder/conductive paint.
While you're at it, get rid of the crappy TIM that's on the NF4 chipset fan. clean it off real good and if you want, you can even lap it (but you'll lose the shim if you do this) and then put some AS5 or Ceramique on there. It'll drop your chipset temps a bit and possibly improve your stability at high overclocks.

have you tried narrowing down where the freezing is coming from? from your sig you're running your chip at 2.5Ghz @ 1.425v...tried giving a little more juice? Mine was prime stable at 2.5Ghz @ 1.45v, but would have random freezes and crashes...until I bumped it to 1.5v.

It will say it in the POST screen, right below the CPU/RAM information and right above the Drive information. Not sure how to tell in windows. The other way to find out is if you go into the Genie section of the Bios, a new option will appear to allow dual 6600GT support.

I've got several issues I'm hoping you guys can help me with. This is my rig:
A64 3000+
DFI NF4 Ultra D
2x512 OCZ 3200VX
Visiontek X850XT
various drives. . .
PCPC 510SLI
So I assembled the system last night and it won't even post while memory is in the yellow slots (dimm 2 + 4), and the VX won't even work in the orange slots (1+3). I tried single sticks, etc., but nothing would work to get the board up and running. I have 2x1GB Corsair XMS3200 so I threw that in; still no dice with the yellow slots but this time the orange slots work. I flashed to the 3/10 bios and now I can get into Windows with VX ram installed in the orange slots (still no dice with yellow). I installed the NF4 drivers and everything seems smooth. I do have a few remaining issues which I need help with:
1) Why won't the yellow slots work? Is there a workaround?
2) I cannot get the 4V memory line to work off of the 5V rail. I've set the jumper-block in the top right corner over to pins 2-3 but still no dice. I've got the 12V 4-pin connector beside the 24-pin connector connected. I've flashed and reflashed the bios, set optimized defaults in the 1-2 jumper position and still nada. Since I have the VX mem, you can see why this might be a problem for me, right? ;)
I'm sorry if these topics have been done to death but after 2 hours of thread-combing last night I couldn't find any answers. I really appreciate any suggestions :)

What's the problem about 42°C NB temperature? The fan is temp. regulated and does only run at full speed when the temp reaches a limit which you can set in bios. When the temp falls below another limit, the fan will stop spinning at all. That reduces the noise level dramatically.
Yes I know, and for 24/7 is OK, but for OCing and to feed it with more than 1.7V Full is better.
Who cares for noise level when you are doing serious OCing. ;)
BTW, on this MB particular, when it stops, doesn't always turns again. chipset temp is above of BIOS Settings (Stops FAN speed at certain temp).

Odd that the load temp is more stable. I actually had two Raptors that wouldn't boot on a cold day in my room (8°C) as the connectors weren't tight anymore. But when running cold is great usually - a winnie issue perhaps?
my ultra-D slowly died on me. It happened where it would'nt be stable with TCCD in it. SO i ran some cheap ram in it at a 1:2 divider. Then that stopped working, so the only way now it boots with with 1 stick in Dimm 3(going away from CPU). So i'm going to be RMA'ing the board. The problem just started to creep up on me, then finally it just refuses to boot anymore. tried 2 different bioses, one of which was an official 3/10. suposed to fix memory in-compatibility. but that sure as heck isn't working.
Sucks because my CAA2C newcastle is able to do 3.15ghz on my prom.

Bad news man, sorry :( Hope your RMA flies through fast!!
If you don't mind me asking, how many lights are lit when you try to boot and it won't? Have you checked Vmem on the 1st DIMM with a meter? (and Vcore anywhere?) If I posted up a pic with two spots to check with a meter, and you still have the board, would you mind measuring the V at them? If not, no problem bro :)
Oh... noticed the prommie comment... silly Q... if you were under Z on that board, you try a good, thorough dry out?
Best of luck and OC's with the new one :toast:
well it is gonna fly through fast, cuz i second day aired it yesterday, with early AM delivery, so they will have it tomorrow morning. so if i'm lucky, they'll have it shipped friday, which if my previous newegg RMA's are any indication, they will have it shipped by then. So i should have it back in my hands by tuesday maybe.
Also, it didn't have anything to do with the prom, i always have a stock cooler handy, so i did give it a shot with the stock cooler. But the problems were there before i put it under a prommie. It stopped working with memory clocked higher than 170mhz when it was on air. there were no condensation problems either. But just for my sake, could you post the measuring points? as the only thing i currently do with my voltmeter is just check my powersupply. I'd like to know the readpoints on the board for future reference.
On the lights: At first, it would hang at 3 lights, then got past that with 1 stick in dimm3 (from CPU). booted fine with the 1:2 divider off 320MHz. Then i got it under the prommie, booted fine again at the same 1:2 divider. but tried my gskill at 1:1. worked fine for like 5 minutes, enough for me to get a 27sec superpi. then stopped working. And refused to work with anything in the orange dimms. never tried yellow, because it would never let me boot with that anyways, gave some warning.
but when it finally had it, was when i had it in dimm3, and it would start hanging then, right before it was supposed to back up cmos. with 2 stick in, it would hang on 3 for a while, then start over and work, but hang on the post screen. So something was really funky with that board. i hope i get a winner back. I also ordered 4x512MB of the twinmos stuff, not the SP. it was 103$ per GB, i couldn't pass it up!
Thanks Skip :D Follow me over here for the pics ;) (http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?p=777631#post777631)

Could someone help me with a little problem? My board really runs fine, just one thing really worries me. My power regulation heatsinks get really hot to the touch...
I put a probe to the bottom of the middle heatsink, and it showed me at least the temp of the PWM reading!
Which is, in my case, ~57-65° under load! I'm with h2o here, so there's not that much airflow inside the case (yet I used every option to mount a fan).
Now, does this temperature harm them? I read that they are rated up to 125°C inside and ~70° package, right? Am I toasting my board here? Idle temp is at ~40°, so maybe these heatsinks don't sit right?
Should I put a waterblock on them? Anyone with a dead board because of overheated power regulation yet?

Have you seen benchmarks that compare high HTT speeds to lower HTT speeds?
There is no point in it. A high HTT speed doesn't mean much. 300Mhz HTT really isn't any faster then 250Mhz HTT which really isn't any faster then 200Mhz HTT. There is just too much bandwidth in the HTT link to saturate it so feeding tons of voltage to the NB so you can clock it higher isn't gaining you anything. Just give it enough to keep it stable at an HTT speed that gets your CPU and RAM where it needs to go. Dont bother with dropping the CPU multiplier to raise the HTT speed unless your doing it to clock your RAM higher.

Those temps aren't really that bad. However, you should be able to get a small 40mm or 60mm fan on those mosfet sinks.
When I water cool the DFI NF4 board, I set a low rpm fan over the memory and another over the PWM area. I route the memory fan power to the mobo CPU fan header, and the PWM fan to the system fan header and use Smartguardian to controll rpm based on idle/load CPU and pwm temps. Under load the fans kick up and cool the ram and pwm. At idle they spin down. In both situations they are virtually silent and make for better 24/7 overclocked stability.

Great idea, I'll try that. I was just curious if these temps are harmful to the board somehow, as a friend of mine (FX + SLI) killed 2 boards already and said his PWM was too hot... now he cools it down and says that there are no problems any more.
Mine shouldn't have to work that hard, so I had hoped to leave those heatsinks just the way they were :D

As long as you put a fan across the area, no problem on the 5V usage from heat.

I used on dab on the left side attaching the left side of the fan to the waterblock mounting screw, and another dab bewteen the right side of the fan and the yellow IDE cable. The fan is about 3/4' above the heatsinks.

I´ve found one that fits on the DFI-NB. ;)
Greetz, Flox
wow...that's helpful...however I'm sure he's looking for a bit more information than that. Like, who makes it, where to get it, etc... :p:

I asked for the cooler and in the mean-time found one on my own...
So I (Flox, who answered) and he (Flox, who asked) are the same person without being schizophrenic... :p:
But for other persons who are looking for a DFI NF4 NB-watercooler:

One question:
i'm doing 300*9 / 305*9 just fine but freezes at 310*9 at 1.625-1.65v....
Is it maybe the fact i don't have plugged that extra connector 5V to mobo ?
+12V is pretty low...goes even low as 11.71....any ideas ?
To determine whether its your mainboard or cpu, try dropping the multi to 8X and see if you can do 310.
Still one question, please:
What´s the height of the DFI-stock cooler and how much space is left between cooler and videocard?
Or just: What´s the maximum height of a mountable cooler?
Thx, Flox

Without any scientific measurements, I'd say 1-1.5 millimeters...

And the height of the stock-cooler?
Is there a chance that a 17mm high waterblock is flat enough to replace the stock-cooler?

Should work IMO. I'll measure the height of the stock cooler tomorrow (just closed my case, don't wanna open it again right now).

i have a bfg 6800 ultra, and it is touching the plastic of the NF4 chipset cooler. It isnt creating a problem, but id have to say there is absolutely no clearance at all...

This would be very nice...
...but everybody else knowing the height of the stock-cooler is welcome, too! ;)

12mm for the stock chipset HS itself... top of it is very close to the bottom edge of a standard PCIe card.
Prost :toast:

Then it sounds like you've reached your cpu's limit.

Should not touch, verify that 6800 Ultra is properly inserted and your board is not warped hence it is properly seated in your case and secured.
Similar issue was identified in early stages, and results showed improper installation. Most of the time when board is believe to be resting flat on a desk when in fact it might be bending a little.

Search for such in these forums, this question, challenges and proposal(s) to replace that chipset cooler has been identified and raised many times b4, as early as back in January. Hit the search button !
One example:

Gah I'm starting to lose sleep over this board. Was working fine for a while, came back it was off. Now when I start it the damn mobo wont detect DRAM, I've tried different modules + switching slots but it just wont detect DRAM.
Any Ideas?
Help would be much appreciated! Thanks

If you have an USB floppy, can you install the SATA drivers off it? Mine works fine when updating a bios, but it doesn't work when installing WindowsXP.

Yes I could with my neo2 platinum mobo BUT with this mobo I had to temp install a regular floppy drive in to install raid drivers. I had usb keyboard/mouse enabled when I tried. I think if you disable usb keyboard/mouse and set floppy drive to NONE it will install.

Maybe I can find a solution to have my kb & mouse installed on USB (without PS/2 adaptors) AND use my USB floppy for the drivers.

yes, and I have checked, the card is seated properly.
I've got 2x1Gb sticks of Hynix D43. For some reason, I can't boot with any mem divider but the "166mhz" one and I'm stuck with low FSB's. I did have this board with my previous memory with HTT up to 400mhz and I could use any mem divider. I'm using BIOS 310p.
Anyone got any ideas?
EDIT: I'm stuck at 213mhz RAM, 256HTT.

Normal same here with an ATI X850 XT PE. it does not touch but a piece of paper only not 2 pieces...lol
Talk about engineering to thight specs ! :p:
Update. The dividers work fine in clockgen but it just won't work when booting from the bios. This is very weird!

Hello guys!
I'm new here and have a big problem.
I often try to overclock my PC but 100 Mhz more and the PC crashes (Bluescreen or Freeze). I have OCZ 3200+ DC Rev.2.0 and at normaly settings the PC crashes too, then i have taken another settings from a member of another forum. The PC is okay but if i take more HTT and overclock my PC on 2100 MHZ, then it's over and the PC crashes.
What shall i do? It's maybe my Graphics Card? I have overclocked on 430 Core and 440 Memory. I want to overclock my PC over 2300MHZ but the settings are maybe not okay. Need help.
Ah yes i tried to overclock with Clockgen.
Here the information about my PC:

AA0 revision identifies the board as being manufactured in China as oppose to the other DFI mfg plant in Taiwan.

It's really ridiculous that you have to use a floppy drive to install the mass storage drivers when installing Windows. What's the problem about reading them from CD or USB storage devices?! :stick:

It is, really. I installed my normal floppy again yesterday, as the machine wouldn't read all the need drivers off my USB floppy. Also, especially this board seems to have problems with USB devices in general. To install without problems, I had to put my keyboard in PS/2 using an adaptor.

try more voltage to the ram.......and chipset ...my chipset needed more to let me go past 220.....also set LDT to 1.30 ....HTT down to 4 might also help...
So possibly could be worse quality than an a00 made in taiwain?
I've got an AA0 rev SLI-DR that's been abused on my test bench for over 2 weeks now, no manufacturing related problems to date. Only item regarding manufacturing I found was possibly too high temp during their reflow process (there were quite a few mini solder ball splatters in some areas of the board, particularly the top right).
Fragman']try more voltage to the ram.......and chipset ...my chipset needed more to let me go past 220.....also set LDT to 1.30 ....HTT down to 4 might also help...
Yeah i have DRam Voltage 2,70, Chipset 1,30 and HTT 4.

i just made it to 250FSB so 2500mhz....and wont go any further atm ......but RAM is hynix based, so I have to run with cpc diabled..otherwise ram settings is auto on pretty much everything.
2.8 to RAM , 1.3 LDT, 1.53 CPU and a lot to chipset ....cant remember exactly but 2 choices over standard. HTT 4. what stopped me from going over 220FSB at stock voltage was chipset.

Anyone using the BlueTooth version of the Logitech MX Keyboard & Mouse??
I'm having the worst problems getting my Keyboard to work here...
My Mouse recognises fine but when I try to install the associated software for the Keyboard, it just doesn't recognise it any more...
I have changed batteries for my keyboard with more than 5 other sets of rechargeable batteries but it just doesn't work for some reason.
Is anyone else is using USB/Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse sets, please let me know which settings you are using for the bios...
I am having one h3ll of a time trying to get this combo working...
My last resort is to use my BlueTooth MX Keyboard & Mouse set on my K8N Neo2 & just use the older MX Keyboard & Mouse Set for the DFI...
That, & can someone let me know what bios settings are the best for VX4000. Either just le me know by typing what settings are used in the bios or take a snapshot of AMD64Tweaker...
I have a few snapshots but don't know whether these settings are best or not.

Fragman']tried with the diNovo bundle (i am testing it for a hardware site) and it works fine.
Found out what the problem was... I had the firewall on...
Wonder why it behaves so bad when I have a firewall running??
Now I know why it also plays up on the K8N Neo2 as well.... Just read the documentation (mind you it's nowhere on the manual) on Logitech's website & found the source of the problem..
So folks, if you run into problems with BlueTooth enabled Keyboard/Mouse/USB receivers, turn the firewall off when you're installing the siftware/d
