Just registered with this forum today for the first time, i used to be a hardcore overclocker back over a year ago with the barton mobiles and p4's ect, i have found no time to play with pc's like i use to and got abit out of touch with things :(

Anyways, i need a new system, im stuck with my old XP-m @ 250*11 @2,2,2,11 timings with my KHX BH5, running an AGP powercolor X800pro, its getting old now and i need an upgrade to generally keep my pc "Above standard these days ;)"

What im looking at is the new DFI 939 board, stick a tagen480w atx2.0 in there, wait a few weeks till i can find a A64 "venice" core, then wack a watercooling setup on there.

My problem lays with the memory, i have 1Gb dual channel KHX PC3200 BH5, im like thinking its all good, then saw people hitting like 320HTT :slobber:

I guess i can use it using a divider, but is it "sensible" to go out and fork out $400 on some higher rated memory, i mean its good for 250fbs at very tight timings.

Spec me a vid card and other stuff to give me max overclockability please, thanks

I heard this forum is the "best" and u guys hook people up with "deciant" systems.

YAY!

welcome to XtremeSystems :toast:

I'd stick with the BH5 atleast long enough to see how it performs on the DFI, you'll have all the voltage the BH5 could possibly need from the DFI. If your getting a high multi chip then may not even need to run a divider.

If you decide to get new memory, I'd suggest the G.Skill LE with TCCD

As far as video cards, if your getting the DFI NF4 SLI then you would want to go with a Nvidia card with SLI capabilites even if your not going to get a second card right away atleast you will have the option down the road. With the NF4 Ultra then any of the X800 series will kick some butt, and will just depend on your budget.

Your KHX Bh5 is fine, like he said, if you are running a chip with a high multi, then the BH5 is the best memory you could get for it. Plus, I would keep the BH5 at least until you see how well the CPU you are getting can overclock. If you blow your money on high end TCCD before even getting the chip, and it overclocks poorly, you just wasted your money. Either way, both memories will perform well, even if you have to use a memory divider. Do whatever it takes to get your core on your CPU as high as possible since this is the most improtant factor of memory performance on the K8 cpus. The memory performance is highly correlated to CPU speed. Then make your final decision on the memory.

As for the video card, I vote that you keep your x800pro if possible. This is a really poor time to buy a high end video card (or video card array) since the next gen cards are right around the corner for a summer release, and if you blew your money on a high end card now I can guarantee that you will regret it. You will probably end up selling that ati 8xx or nvidia 6xxx series card you are considering and getting the next gen when it comes out. True, if this generation of cards is any indication, there may be supply issues, but if you start saving now you will have the $ to get a brand new bleeding edge card come summer. Keep your x800pro if possible or sell it for something modest that you can use until next gen comes out. I for one stongly recommend the 6600GT for a strong mid range budget performer, or if you are a complete ego freak and need something faster, try out Ati's x800xl. Good luck!

thanks for the replys guys, ill stick with the BH5, just hope i get a deciant Venice CPU :)

The only problem with the X800 pro is its AGP :(

Ill probably buy an X800 Xt or something in PCI-E format second hand and sell it after the next gen cards come out, but i dont think that will be for a while.

So, when do these new chips get released?, i need to get my hands on some new gear ASAP!

I'm moving your thread to the General Hardware section, because it doesnt really belong in the xtreme overclocking section wich is for xtreme overclocks only.

Please post in the acccurate section the next time.
If you dont know what section to post in then please contact any of us mods and we will help you.

And welcome to Xtreme.
