View Full Version : My aircooled 3200+ winnie @ 2.9GHz!

Hey Guys,
after finding my maximum overclock windows stable I thaught I should try and find absolute max stable cpu speed in BIOS.
I cranked all the volts up quite alot; not really caring about how high the volts are because it would only be on for a few seconds.. So I pumped 1.7volts through my winnie; 2.8 volts through my RAM, 1.35volts to my HTT and then some other high volts ot my NB and SB.

After spending a minute or two of altering volts I managed to get my aircooled winchester to 2.9GHz stable! (Screenshots attatched).

When I go water I am hoping to get high clocks like this in windows

Don't reconize the bios. Which mobo is this? No AGP/PCI lock on it?

Alec

Abit AV8. Uses uGuru for the overclocking options.. Pretty nice actually...
yer it does have a pci lock i jsut upped it upto 74MHz from 66mHz because of the high HTTs.

Abit fatality prob.
So geez you managed to do a suicide screen in bios. Congrats.
With AGP and PCI running that high it really is suicide, in fact.

What stepping btw?

These 'look at my winnie's ss' threads are really really getting old now. They were old a couple months ago, but now they're just annoying. I thought you had that stable on air. Not overall very imrpresive no offense, some can get stable at 2.8ghz on air. SS in bios is nothing to be amazed about.

I don't mean to rain on ur perade or put you down personally, I'm just really tired of seeing all these suicide screenshots, I'm sure most everyone will agree with me.

yer i can understand why your getting annoyed with it; I am sorry for causing you to feel annoyed by it; I just thaught I should chip in my personal best overclocks on an overclocking forum...

I cant exactly keep my pc running at 2.9GHz on air for long because of the high voltages being supplied to my cpu but under watercooling Im sure I could get something close :)

I can just about run at 2.8GHz in windows thoughh not very stable cause of unhappy memory controller above 50*C :(

As for the stepping... I did have it written down on a piece of paper once but i have lost it since then.. When I go watercooling I will clean off the thermal paste and write the stepping down again.

I was just shocked by the answers. Why are people so rude? Has he stolen your money or sthg?? I just cant believe the way people answer... Instead of giving some advices, some people just answer with no respect...

Well, i always say, dont do to ur mates what u wouldn´t like to receive... but well...

Alec, keep up the work! Go for that WC and then try again.

Regards.

Not a problem. I don't even care that much that people do it all the time, but the titles are always 'Look, 3000mhz on air.' You read it and ur all 'oh wow.. thats pretty impressive.' *Open it up and see a cpuz screenshot*

well i know that alec has worked very hard to get his rig OCed and optimized...
this is just a milestone for him and he wanted to share it.
that is what this place is for right?

i would have expected more from the XS crew, maybe @ EOCF but not here...
this is one of the reasons i decided to say f it and sell all my stuff.

GJ bro i know how much time you put into your rig;) :toast:
water will definately make all the difference...

Stable? :yawn2:

my 3200 claw posted at 3.3ghz+ on air, but its only stable in windows at 2.65... so that screeny means nothing

dont mean do bust ur balls, but here at xs every couple people with a winnie gets 2.9 screenies in windows, and thers a bajillion threads about em

Thanks for the positive response mate! :)
Yer took a while for me to get that far.. This is my first ever rig that I have overclocked so Ive had to learn quite alot over the past months.Slowly optimizing my settings and moving up from 2.4GHz windows stable all the way upto 2.72GHz windows stable.

I took the BIOS screeny just to show how far my winchester can really go (and maybe one day, just one day.. Might be stable in windows)!

Stable?
BIOS Stable yes... Max benchable and suicide screenies to follow shortly :)

Come on Alec bios stable doesnt mean anything . . .

this is so lame...i'd never post any bios shot...it does nothing at all...

To be completely honest I don't see the point of these threads, except making the author feel either happy or bad from the initial replies they rarely lead to any deeper discussion. In the end it's just numbers.

Come on Alec bios stable doesnt mean anything . . .
maybe so but its just my maximum oc...
I have managed to get a clock just 50MHz short of that bios pic in windows now (not stable because of temps but with water it should be)!

as i said before.. windows screenies to follow...

Give him a break guys hes happy to get that in bios.. Maybe it doesnt float your boat but it gives him satisfaction.. and afterall this is an overclocking forum.

it's not him personally, it's that he's the 1000'th person to make a winnie thread like this, and most are 'look 3000mhz aircooled!' his is 2.9ghz bios lol.

so since you guys hate on bios shots, fuggers 7.2 is nothing too right? GJ man, nb at all. What cooling you have on it? maybe get a cooler ambient temp and you can pull off 2.9 in windows? good lcuk

yeah, but difference between this and fuggers is fuggers was a wr, this has been done thousands of times over

^^ & that he can get in windows is also . . . I can get in windows @2850-2900Mhz but it's not stable enough 2 run something & it's stable in Prime @2.7Ghz@1.5V not goin any higher & even if I 'd have water I 'dnt reach higher . . .

i didn't...i actually see nothing special with SS (in Windows and in Bios)with no benchmark at all...okay, you don't have to go into windows, but how bout a memtest 86??that'd be pretty okay, i think..let's see how many errors you'd get :D

yea I just dont understand why people are saying so much stuff about this persons, oc, he is only stating that he is happy he got 2.9 on air for a bios shot. Nothing wrong with that IMHO , just dont post if you dont care

Thanks for the possitive feedback sabrewolf732 :) , Ive got the Venus 12 HSF; pretty good but I will be moving over to watercooling within the next few months...

Watercooling is for teravolts! :D
OK many users here have subzero cooling but as we discussed at MSN it is impossible to run my Venice with Vcores > 1.65 (permanent Vcore is 1.716).
You know that my :stick: CPU is banana but I don't worry! :)
Anyway amazing speed 2.9GHz! :toast:

This is my old winnie, Like always I putted the chip at +1.8V on boxed-cooling (like i do with all my chips lol :) ).

http://members.lycos.nl/hugnix/2900.JPG

The highest voltage I ever used on a processor was on my venice 1.86V (at boxed-cooling).

WOW!
I have the same mainboard Hugo van Dijk!
1.85 Volts is 1.816!
And you used stock cooling? :slobber:
Thanks for info I will run it with maximum Vcore! :D
