Well rather refrigerator :slap: I am going to slowly start building my first phase. The Junk Yard has a few fully operational reffers for sale at 50$ each. He said they were standard size with freezer on the bottom. If I do get this is there anything else I can get to make of use from the reffer.

I also called an appliance repair shop and they said they had some used compressors laying around and to tell me to come take a look. I know I want at least a 5200 BTU compressor. Any specific brands I should be looking for?

Sorry to sound n00b but I am new to this. Doing a lot of reading and have a pretty good grasp on how it all works. I do not plan to do the brazing, I have a welder friend who will brazze/weld it all for me. I plan On putting it together and take it to him to get it all brazzed etc. I will be useing Propane or R-22 most likely propane because it will be easyer to do.

Thanks for the help,
GunnerMan :stick:

If you can find a rotary compressor for cheap. It will probably be the best bang for your buck.

As far as regular hermetic compressors go, try and find Danfoss. The rest are about the same, from what I have read.

Ok, thanks. I have a feelig the Appliance Shop is going to charge me more than I want to spend for one ATM so I am really leaning for the J/Y Reffer if they have a decent compresser(have fingers crossed) because of the price, 50$ seems like a good deal if they are decent. I am going to call him and ask if he has any A/c units avalible too for a condenser.

A/C units usually have larger compressors in them. They have a larger heat load to bear than a refrigerator does. Sears has a A/C window unit, with a 5200 Btu or 5600Btu compressor in it. @$89 last time I looked.

I am used to reffer, refering to a refrigerated trailer for semi's, is this what you are refering to?

Well actually I was talking about a household refrigerator. I will see if he has any A/c units for sale also.

Ok called the Junk Yard back up. He said he had a lot of A/c units that worked from small to the really big outside piped in ones. So I should have no problem getting a good compressor and condensor.

get a 5000btu window a/c unit. It will cost the least to run and will have plenty of power. It will also come with a properly sized condenser & fan, all you need to make is an evap.

Everyone says at least a 5200, but I guess 200 is not a big difference. Cost of power is not really a factor here. I will go for the A/c unit if there is one of decent size.

Everyone? I think the 5200 Btu is the easiest to find for cheap. Only becuase the sale that sears had a couple of months ago. I think everyone and their brother, that wanted to make a water chiller, got one of these A/C units.

Also what kind of processor are you going to be putting this on? If it has a high heat load, then a @5000Btu would be a good starter, just for the ease of use. You shouldn't have to tweak and tune as much, as you would going with a smaller compressor, to get pretty good temps.

Well, right now I am making it for a AMD 64 3200+ S754 on an ASUS K8V SE Dx mobo with a 300 Mhz oc. Can't go further with this motherboard but in a few months I will probably go Venice or San Diego. I just want to get started on it now because would rather learn on this machine and also I am starting on a pretty tight budget right now, and who knows how long it will take me to buy a good suction pump. Tomorrow I will go look for a 5000 BTU compressor, if I find better should I go for it? I don't see why not but maybe there is a reason. Thanks for the help and sorry for my n00bnes;)

You should go for it. The reason I was asking is, if you had an XP mobile you could get away with a 3500 Btu compressor.

I have an XP mobile and at it's current overclock, it's putting out a whopping 100 watts. I think for the 64's they are closer to 200.
