I must say I am very impressed with the quality of these.
I will assemble this week or next with a 1.5hp compressor and a 30x30cm twin pass condensor. The aim is -50 under load with r290. The block is 40mm square so it will be a breeze to insulate :D

nice you're gonna be busy i guess :)
i only sent it yesterday lunch, cant believe it got there so quick.
sory i didnt get a chace to lap the evap perfect, though i would leave some hard work for you.
try 600 grit then some 800 grit and some brasso and it will leave a mirror finish.

actually i would avoid the brasso.
you dont need to see yourself on the base of the evap, you just need it smooth. if you see your reflection cause you sand it up like crazy great, but you should never add any kind of chemicals to have some gloss.
just use some grit paper and alcohol.

Looks pretty dirty to me, if theres that much crud outside wonder what it's like inside.

May I suggest that you lap the evaporator now, before assembly. :)
Nice job kayl...

Well, if you find a clear brazing rod be sure to let us know.

lol @ the clear brazing rod :p:
The base is dirty, but it is very very smooth. As kayl said it just needs some lapping. I will prolly do 600 - 1200 - 1800 grit and that is good enough for me.
I really need a source of cheap compressors though. AU$350ish in Australia for a r404a 1/3HP compressor makes it quite expensive to build.

what so funny?
All I would be concerend about is the crud on the inside although I guess it would not be that much of an issue if a suction filter was installed

I'm sure Kayl washed it out or used a shield gas during brazing. He knows what hes doing.

thats cool dont worry if i was buying a block off someone i would be asking these questions also.
i gave him the option to get it un-brazed so he could inspect and finish it him self.
but for a piece of mind i wanted to do it my self, its so easy to block the capillary line if never done it before. then i have a problem if the block doesnt perform right he may want a refund etc.
i also have co2 which i use as a shielding gas while i braze to reduce the chance of blocking capillary line (ie at the end of the capillary line i attach a schraider valve and flow co2 down it) and to rid the evap of oxygen.
then finally i hooked it up to a phase change system old 1/5Hp compressor chilly condenser and a 15g copper bullet drier. and ran it for a day. no load was -48c ran fine no insulation. the refigerant and oil would of stripped the evap of any crap and put it in me drier and oil.
if ya look done the suction pipe leaving the evap is a sorta clean pink colour.
May I suggest that you lap the evaporator now, before assembly. :)
Nice job kayl...
thanxs runmc, its alot easier to lap a block without the suction line.
and a little easier to pack. the suction line coils up into a nice ring with evap in the midle.
actually i would avoid the brasso.

going to have to throw the brasso away now damit. :stick:

well brasso isn't a glossing chemical its actually a polishing compound. So if you want a really smooth finish then I would use brasso. It grinds the surface down so its even smoother, it doesn't leave a chemical on the surface to make the shine.

very good job kayl.
A nice outside clean would make a monster evaporator... :toast:
