Dual-Cascade Project (56K warning)

I bought this device at an auction, a used Flexi-Cool® Immersion Cooler, a self-contained, dual cascade system:

This device is meant to dip a cold probe into a liquid and chill it. I thought that rather than use at as a chiller, both inefficient and unwieldy, I'd enlist Chilly1 to put one of his vaunted evaporator heads on it:

So I sent it to Chilly, and he broke it open and sent me some pics:

Chilly reported the following about the unit:

- It has totally flammable gasses.
- R1270 first
- R1150 plus R290 second
- Compressors are 8.5 CC danfoss R12 compressors.
So I had Chilly put on one of his blocks (Chilly can add his worklog and pics later when he gets his technical issues worked out).

This unit is rated for about 110W. Not enough for my 560J, but just right for my X800XT PE. So, time to strap it on.

Yet more Armaflex, leaving room for soft-mods. I don't know why I left the ram sinks on. They were hard to take off, so I said screw it. They get really cold when the unit is operating, so they are now cold sinks.

We're gonna need a bigger desk (the hose is 6 feet long, so I can stick the cascade in various places):

Unfortunately, I haven't had a lot of time for benching, but preliminary numbers are -85C at idle, 736 benchable core on 1.83 volts, up from about 660 on straight water (742 fails in middle of 3DMark). Can Riva test at 780. I need to bump up the volts to about 1.9v and do some benching on a cold night to see what she can do. A Vapo and a dual cascade really heats up the room!

After I am done benching the video card, I'd like to try it on a Pentium-M with one of those 478 adapters.

Again i'll say, AWESOME! was this a cascade that you bought somewhere and then sent it to chilly's to be modded with his block? If so, was it expensive to buy the unit? I'd be interested in somethng like this for my cpu as my future plan is to have a cascade hopefully one day i've never seen a cascade setup that wasn't custom built.

I don't think it's a must, but it could be useful. I will use it not only for extra protection but to keep dust away.

Did you put some nail polish or dialectric grase on the heat sinks and the area were the vmods go? Nope, just some clear tape, then cling wrap over that. I need to be able to see it so I can put the clips on - they invariably fall off during install into case.

Im just being curious as this is the first time I see itWell, my cling wrap gets some dampness on it, mostly where the sinks are. Better on the cling wrap than on delicate components. A pretty cheap and easy safety measure...

If I was a millionaire, I would have had Chilly build me a three-stager that goes -175C and handles a 200W load. :lol:

Any more comment's on propylene...i saw AirGas list's it as a specialty gas. Wonder if it would be cheaper or better than 507 or 404 for 1st stage?

How loud is that thing?Think a Delta fan that is about a foot wide, or the noise a street cleaner makes. :lol:

LOL, it is not quiet, definitely not for 24/7 use. This device has convinced me once and for all that I need to have separate benching and work rigs.
