can anyone teach me how to do this?
i have already done the vgpu, vmem, also the LM63 mod and the power mod for that...

i was just wondering that modding the vref will help my mem reache higher clock stable

hi
alex remember me, i have asked some question b4 and thx for ur opinion....anyway, i just wanna get some pic of modding grandmars 9600XT
coz i lost all and i havent done it yet

also i have a plan of replacing high quality capacitors on this card, all from Rubycon, will that possible to give more stability to the card????

actually i have order those caps and those are same capacitance and voltage rating as those on the card......

give some opinions on it!!!

thx :toast:

I dont think the rubycon caps will increase your OC at all, but longevity of the card will be increased. I need a pic of the card to help you guys find vref.

i just think whether it is possible to replace all the caps coz those on the card are rubbish caps......
btw, the layout of the card is the same as GexCube 9600XT, i think it's made from the same OEM, if u have some photos of how to mod this card, can u put some on this thread???
thx

to vaspey,

yes, the grandmars is OEM the Gexcbue(also call Gigacube)

you want the VGPU one or the VMEM one?

i agree to Catalyst.X, i also dont think changing the caps on the card will get you much better clock...

that's ok, just wanna have a try first, any result in regards to changing caps will post up right after my testing

btw, i've got a full understanding of how to mod Vgpu and Vmem, but what u say alex, u wanna mod the Vref rite, got any idea plz post up..........

also, can this 9600XT do the FDD power mod????
if so, this would be fantastic

thx

Ohk what is written on the 2 ICs next to the SC1175CSW chip and what is written on the chip just to the left of the vgpu chip that looks almost exactly like it. THX lmk

i mean which pic do u want, the mod of GPU one or the Mem one...

i want to mod the Vref cos the value of Vref should be a half of the Vmem, right?

the default voltage of the vmem is 2.75, but i always make them running @ 2.9v~3.0v when benchmarking....so i thought the Vref is still @ default....

Originally, the three chips are the same :
P33AH
FDS
6898A

but one of them, next to the GPU one, it burnt sometime, so i replaced it to :

IRF
5D6Q
F7313

but both of them are the same function...so, it doesnt matter

btw, if any idea of doing this Vref mod please post up coz i'm newbie on reading chip part number and the function of them :D sry about that :D

seems need to solder a few SMD caps near around it, rite? i mean c256,257 and 258 around the place where LM63 places...

anyway, can u give me LM63 chip :D , i need it tho, tell me if u can!!!

yes, you need some SMD for the LM63

wow....it cost about a hundred dollars each.... :slobber:

:( dont be like that plz, i'm serious, can u give me 1 LM63, and if u have some extra caps, can u also give me???? btw, what are the values of those 3 caps?

Alex, u havent answer me what are the values for those caps
i'm not sure for those caps
is it 2 2.2nF SMD
and 1 100pF SMD for the LM63 mod? just tell me what values of SMD on what place (C256-C258)
can u send me a clear photo for that mod too, that 1 u posted b4 was not clear!!!!

if you're looking for some LM63, just do a sample order from National Semiconductor. Sometimes they're free, sometimes you have to pay a small shipping charge. They're definately NOT $100 a piece. Maybe $1.00.

If you check out the data sheet on the LM63, you'll find the values of the missing smd components. ATI used the standard LM63 circuit right down to the component values listed in the data sheet.

Chances are you'll also need to flash the bios with a bios from a card that had the LM63. Otherwise it's not "turned on".

I was one of the first to do this mod a loooong time ago. I can dig the thread up somewhere. I think it's still up here.

:EDIT: here's (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=30735&page=5&pp=25&highlight=9600xt+lm63) the original thread where we figured it out.

also, what the BIOS is suitable for my card? Gexcube 9600XT -2.5ns RAM!!!!

vaspey
04-22-2005, 07:00 AM
oh, i got those values for my card's lm63 mod
C256 - 0.1uF cap, 0603 SMT Package
C258 - 100pF cap, 0603 SMT Package
C257 - 2.2nF cap, 0603 SMT package
these are all from other thread, are these work on my Gexcube 9600XT?
(same layout as hkalex's)

also can some1 provide me the BIOS flash tool and the BIOS, coz the link in the other thread doesnt work!!!!

NST6563
04-22-2005, 02:29 PM
well, the bios used in that thread (probably the one on my link that's broken) was for 2.8ns chips. you may want to try and look for a bios here (http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/) that is for 2.5ns chips. You may get lucky and get one that has LM63 support in it.

The OTHER thing you may do is grab a bios from that site from a card that has overdrive support (lm63 enabled in card's bios), and then using RaBit, copy the timings of your current cards bios into the new bios. Of course, use the rambios in dos to see if the card will take it or not. If not, don't flash.

:EDIT: I fixed the links. You're lucky I still had the files out there :p:

still, try in dos with rambios first. If the card seems to respond ok (IE, no artifacts or anything...dos looks like it always did) then chances are it will do ok in windows too. But you'll want to check for artifacts in ATITool or something just to make sure the timings don't need to be adjusted.

vaspey
04-22-2005, 07:13 PM
how do i know which of those BIOS in there supports overdrive????
it's hard to find one................can u help me, do me a favor?????????

hkalex has the same card as mine, can he give me the BIOS that he needed b4 to do the flashing????

NST6563
04-22-2005, 07:36 PM
you can ask him. He may still have the card. Not sure.

Looks like the PowerColor 9600XT Ultra has LM63 support with 2.5ns ram.
link (http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/Powercolor.9600XT.128.Samsung25.040206.bin)

You can try the bios I posted. Since you have faster ram it shouldn't hurt anything. Your timings may be a little more relaxed, which would just allow you to clock it that much higher (ideally).

vaspey
04-22-2005, 07:39 PM
then i just choose either 1 of the flashing tool is ok, haha
actually which 1 is better?

NST6563
04-23-2005, 05:55 AM
both flashing tools are about the same. they use the same command line options. I used ATIFlash.

I can't stress enough to boot to a dos disk and use rambios to load the bios image first to see if the card will take it. Rambios doesn't write the bios to the card, it writes it to memory and the card is re-initialized through the bios in memory. Once that works, then I'd say it's safe to flash it since you'll at least be able to see in dos if you needed to flash back.

For the worst case scenario - have a pci card handy for a rescue.

vaspey

so where to get that RAMBIOS????

In the link I posted in the other thread (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=30735&page=5&pp=25&highlight=9600xt+lm63)

or just use google.

yes sure, i am still using this card, thats my baby, although i got my SLI system for benching, but i still love to use my 9600XT for daily use...

do you still want the BIOS of the card ?

oh....i just wondering will the others mod help my benching?

my card just stick on the VGPU & VMEM completed.
