View Full Version : Suction line Hx??
could anyone pls show me what a suctionline hx looks like or how is it done. :confused:i have ppl saying that it is done by wrapping the capillary tubes ard the suction line but then again some ppl think otherwise am really confused now.

A suction line hx is just a device that allows heat to be transfered from the cold suction line to the hot liquid line. The capillary tube carries liquid so wrapping it around the suction line allows heat exchange thus you have created a suction line heat exchanger. This is only one way of doing it and there are many other. The basic goal is to cool the liquid line so you get a better efficiency (COP), although it does not allways have a positive effect. On an ammonia system, I believe it reduces the COP whereas on a R22 system it can have a positive effect or a negative effect depending on how its down. Suction line heat exchangers are not always a good idea, so some analysis should be done before using one. Although its usually much quicker just to build it and see :D

I thought that heat transfer from warm/hot medium to colder medium.. well?

Heat is transfered from hot to cold. As my chemistry teacher always said " There is no such thing as cold, only lack of heat!"
