I am unable to boot into windows XP anymore - installed the new Det. 41.09's earlier today, then tried updating the VIA 4n1's to 4.43 (crashed during the process). Had to boot up into Windows by using last good settings (booted ok). Uninstalled the 41.09's, then like an idiot, I reinstalled them (still could not load the 4N1's. At this point, my box wouldn't boot into Windows anymore whatsoever (default settings no O/C at that point). Tried loading my XP disk to do a repair and that didn't work either.

Any ideas? All help appreciated.

Thanks.

how did you do repair?

I do a proper install, ie wait till it says do you wanna overwrite this copy or repair it... (after chossing partition) and it will cope with ANYTHING...

Change of mobo, anything... it basically does a full reinstall but leaves all your settings intact, replaces all drivers etc...

Thanks...I just tried the repair options at the beginning (will try installing over the top when I get off work tonight). Has anyone tried the new Dets with success? Thought it was so weird I would crash every time I tried to install the 4n1's, the new Dets seemed ok (went into settings and their new control panel stuff and it worked fine). Something not copacetic here!

I want my new nForce2 mobo and memory soon - sick of VIA chipsets finally.

Bump for the detonator question and any other advice! Always fun to hose up windoze.

Seems a little odd. But as Galifrey said, a repair on the OS pretty much reinstalls everything. I carried an XP from a RAID array on one board to another board, no problems ;).

Very odd, reinstalling OS over the top right now, just got home, another 30 minutes to go. Just want to know what was fubared, seemed strange I couldn't update the via 4n1's earlier today, that was where it blinked on me.

The repair worked and went back to older Nvidia drivers, not sure at this point what happened. Had to reinstall my Santa Cruz drivers for XP and an updated version of the HPT drivers. Weird, but glad I have it back for the moment, need to back up a few things then it won't matter! Thanks for the help.
